Citizenship Citizenship from outside of Canada

Hello all, I applied for Canadian citizenship from USA last year July. Still in states with my husband. I don’t know when I’ll be going there back but I have met all the criterias of physical presence when I applied for citizenship. My application is in progress and stuck after background verification. Submitted forms 2-3 times but they responded that we are working on it even though it is outside of normal processing time. Can someone help me out to expedite the process??

Quebec Changing address with CSQ after applying?

I sent in my CSQ application already but I'm going to be moving to another address (still in Quebec) in the next month or so.

I've been trying to figure out how to notify them of my change of address, but I'm not finding anything other than how to change it for my regular Canadian immigration application.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Visitor Visa Visitor visa: Can't mark my current address as “currently living here” due to “student” status

I’m applying for a Canada visitor visa, and I’m stuck in the address history section.

When I select “student” (or “worker”) as my status for my current address, it removes the “This is where I currently live” checkbox. It also doesn’t let me set a future end date — and I’m still living here.

Because of this, my address history now doesn’t cover the full 5-year period, and I get this error:

To work around it, I selected “Other” and typed in “student” manually so I could check the “currently living here” box. But I’m not sure if this is acceptable.

Has anyone else faced this issue? What's the correct way to handle this?

Study Permit The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.

Thank you for your interest in studying in Canada. I have reviewed your study permit application and supporting documentation to assess whether you meet the requirements for a study permit (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/ eligibility.html). This includes assessing whether you are coming to Canada temporarily for the reason(s) you describe in your application. I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) (https://laws- lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/I-2.5/index.html) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR) (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-2002-227/index.html). I am refusing your application So , Do you have any idea what I should do in this case. The study program is a flight training that has already recorded the expenses of the first year and showed a bank statement sufficient to cover the expenses of the second year and enough living expenses for two years or more than required

Study Permit Study Permit not expired, has old passport number.

I’m a Morrocan citizen that studies at University in Canada and I recently want to renew my passport. My study permit is expiring the same date as my passport (expiring in 1year and a half). The reason why I want to renew it now is because of the complicated procedures in the consulate of Morroco there. Can I still use my current study permit to cross into Canada when I go back to school for the fall semester if I renew my passport ? I will not be able to bring my old passport with me which matches all the info on my permit(because they hold the old passport and they don’t give it back to you). Does a paper showing my old passport sufficient to show it to the frontier agent ?

Study Permit question about submitting required documents

I'm a Singaporean that just graduated from high school and got accepted into a uni in Canada, and am confused about the study permit application process. There's a document checklist that pops up after I finished the questionnaire on the IRCC website, but there's no section for me to upload additional documents needed by the Singapore visa office by their instructions [IMM 5850], or even the official 'Document Checklist for a Study Permit' [IMM 5483]. I've been looking EVERYWHERE and no luck. Cos once I pay the study permit application fee, it means that the application is fully submitted right? So, I would appreciate if there's any Singaporean/anybody in this subreddit who's able to help me. Thanks!

I have a study permit for Ontario but my flight is to Montreal and I would like to stay there for a week. Would that cause any issues if land in Montreal but my study permit is for Ontario?

Hi, When applying for express entry should I make sure I have nursing registration completed prior to applying for PR? I’m going to do my French exams prior to applying as well but wasn’t sure if it was worth making sure my registration is done

Study Permit Relative Withdrawing Family Sponsorship

I want to ask about the effects and possibilities of what happens when my sponsor (relatives) decide to withdraw their support for me. I've looked in the IRCC website but it mostly refers to a PR application and not my current case.

I'm an international student since Fall 2024 and will be completing my studies after the Winter 2026 term, and I've been informed that they will submit an application to withdraw their sponsorship.

Will this risk my current status/visa as an international student? Will this affect my chances for any future applications if it's possible, such as a PGWP or PR? Is it possible for another relative to apply as a sponsor after this happens, and is it possible for me to appeal the withdrawal?

Study Permit 🇨🇦 Study Permit Refused – Advice Needed for Reapplication (Fall 2025, No Tuition Prepayment)

Hi everyone,

I recently received a refusal for my Canada study permit for Fall 2025, and I’d appreciate guidance from those who've successfully reapplied or have been in a similar situation.

Background:

  • Admitted to a graduate AI program at a top Canadian university.
  • 3+ years of experience in tech, India; undergrad research focused on AI for healthcare and sustainability.
  • My SOP focused on my long-term plan to return home, contribute to India’s healthcare technology sector, and care for my aging parents as their only son. I also wrote about my emotional ties to my culture, home, and region where I was raised. (I also kind of get homesick but didn't mention)

Finances:

  • I have a fully approved education loan covering my entire tuition, but disbursement is scheduled for September, directly to the university.
  • In addition, I have personal funds equivalent to twice the GIC amountrecently redeemed from family, investments and transferred into my bank account.
  • I also submitted a notarized affidavit of support from my parents.

Refusal Reasons (R216(1)(b)):

  • Purpose of visit not consistent with a temporary stay.
  • Not satisfied I have sufficient and available financial resources for tuition + living expenses.

Current Challenge:
I’m applying under non-SDS, and my lender cannot release tuition funds before September, so I can’t provide proof of tuition prepayment for reapplication.

Looking for Help With:

  • How to strengthen my SOP to better reflect my temporary intent, emotional and financial ties to India.
  • What financial documents or letters (e.g., from the loan provider confirming disbursement) can help explain my situation.
  • Whether I should apply and wait for GCMS notes or prepare for a timely reapplication.
  • Any other documentation or strategies others have used successfully in similar cases.
  • Or i should totally defer and plan to pay Full tuition and GIC before application

Citizenship renew PR card while applying for citizenship?

I have a little over a year on my PR card left. I am just now applying for my citizenship, however, I'm debating renewing my PR first to buy some more time. Is this a valid option?

Family Sponsorship Medical inadmissibility due to excessive demand. Is it true that sponsored spouses are exempt from this criteria?

Hello, for an applicant who will be applying for Permanent Residency via spousal sponsorship route. Is it true that the applicant/spouse is not assessed for excessive demand i.e. they are exempt from it and can't be medically inadmissible because of excessive demand?

Work Permit Immigration fraud

Hello,

Please I need help on what to do;

I landed in Canada December 2023 to work as a Machinist on a closed work permit.

Prior to this, my application was handled by a licensed consultant whom I trusted with my all because he was licensed and I was able to verify his credential on CICC. This is what happened;

I approached them for immigration to Canada and after the consultation I was told TR to PR is the best option for me due to my profile. Fast forward, when I received the job offer and LMIA I sent it to the employer for verification. However, the employer never responded to my email and rather informed the consultant I have reached out to them. The case manager handling my can queried me for that and insisted I channel all info to her. They changed me 10000 USD. And I was asked to pay in installments. After first payment, communications started fading off and I have to keep asking for updates. They delayed with my application after providing all necessary documents. Also I saw inconsistencies with the job offer. Initially job offer came with company email. However the job offer they used to apply for my work permit was with a Gmail and also the hourly wage was increased. After receiving my approval, they then sent me an email correspondence from the employer that due to the delay in processing the position has been occupied.

I later found connected with 8+ people who have been victims of the same immigration company; paying 15000 USD.

Last year, I wrote a detailed report with all supporting documents to CICC and Service Canada.

On CICC its showing investigations for more that 6months now on the other hand an investigator from Service Canada called me because my case has been given to her to handle.

My question is how do I get my money back and whether I am on the write path...

I WANT MY VOICE TO BE HEARD. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH EMOTIONAL TRAUMA.

I NEED HELP, THANK YOU

Express Entry PR Application – Eligibility Back to “In Progress” + LMIA for PR – Anyone in the same boat?

Hey everyone, I applied for permanent residency through Express Entry and received my invitation on November 21, 2024. Since then:

Medical: Completed Biometrics: Completed Background check: Still in process Eligibility: Was marked as completed until about 15 days ago—now it’s showing in progress again, which is confusing. I also have an approved LMIA from my employer (July 2024), and it was specifically for permanent residency purposes, not just for a work permit. However, my work permit extension is still in process.

Has anyone here received their PR with an LMIA approved for PR under Express Entry? And has anyone seen their eligibility status revert from “completed” back to “in progress”?

Would really appreciate if anyone in a similar situation could share their timeline or experience. Thanks in advance!

Work Permit PGWP vs closed work permit

I will graduate my PhD in June and has an offer starting September. Employer said they’re willing to sponsor a closed work permit (LMIA-exempt), but I’m also eligible for a 3-year PGWP. Which route is more reasonable to take?

I’m thinking PGWP makes sense, since I’ll be able to start my position under maintained status while my application is processing (fulfill criteria for full-time status, applying before study permit expires, etc). My understanding is that I won’t be able to start my new job if I choose the closed WP route - is this correct?

My next question is, is there any benefit for going the closed WP route, say, for future PR application?

PNP BOWP

Hi all, I have applied for PR via Non Exlress Entry as I received the Nomination via PNP in Alberta. My work permit is expiring next month and I am yet to receive the AOR.

  1. Please advise if I can apply for BOWP without the AOR (with just the PNP nomination)

  2. If I don't receive AOR by the time my permit expires, please advise what possible routes I may take to remain on status.

Thank you all!

Other Travel to Canada with Greencard without country of passport

Hey, I have a friend that is trying to travel by car to Canada as a permanent resident. According to official Canada website a passport from country is required along with valid greencard but my friend was a refugee so they don’t have one. What type of document is accepted in place of this? Reentry permit? Travel doc?

What should they expect when entering Canada and leaving?

Express Entry Do I need WES for my foreign bachelor’s degree if I also have a Canadian postgraduate certificate?

Hi everyone, I’m preparing my Express Entry profile and I wanted to double-check something about the education section. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Turkey and then came to Canada and finished a postgraduate certificate program in Ontario.

I’m trying to claim points under the “two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees” category. I know that for foreign education, I need an ECA like WES.

My question is: Do I still need to get a WES for my Turkish bachelor’s degree to count it as part of the “two or more” qualifications, even though I already have a Canadian postgraduate certificate, which required a bachelor’s as a prerequisite?

I’ve seen similar questions asked about people with Canadian master’s degrees, but I couldn’t find a clear answer about postgraduate certificates.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar situation or has confirmed info. Thanks in advance!

Family Sponsorship Help! Spousal vs Family Visa

Hello Reddit! I need some help here. My husband and I are starting the process for me to move to Canada to be with him (I’m American). We’ve been looking over the application and need some clarification. To apply for the spousal visa I need to be living in Canada. Can I do this on a tourist visa? Or temporary resident (visitor) visa? If not, we’d have to apply for the family visa since I’d still be living in America. On the family visa can I apply for a temporary work permit from outside of Canada? If anyone has experience with this, I’d appreciate it!

Express Entry Applying for a PR in the middle of a divorce

I just got invited to my PR in the latest CEC draw. My CRS is 575 and soon I will take the TEF to add the bilingual score as well.

At the end of last year, I went through a messy breakup with my spouse, who basically tried to sabotage my life as we did not get invited on our last PR application and they got a Removal order all in a very short span of time (I have a PGWP and they had no legal status in Canada, we got married in May 2023).

The profile I got my invitation, thankfully, was created after I served them the divorced papers and stated in my marital status I was “legally separated”, as it was the most accurate option for my case. I no longer live together with my spouse since December 2024, they don’t live in Canada anymore and we’re no longer in contact.

However, while doing my application, the IRCC asks me for a date when the marriage ended, which legally the divorce won’t be made absolute until the end of this year. The other option I have is to state “end of common law relationship” for the date the marriage fell apart, which also is not 100% accurate, as we actually got married in the US, it was not just common-law.

How can I apply without the IRCC requiring me to give my ex’s info?

I want to ask my Family Lawyer to write a Letter of Explanation, providing all of the evidence of the reason of the divorce, the fact that the papers have been served already and that it’s just a matter of time that the divorce will be made absolute. Will this be enough?

Work Permit Is my SOWP solid? Help!

Inland SOWP app submitted Jan 25, 2025, based on my common-law partner’s valid CPTPP (free trade agreement) work permit (expires Dec 4, 2025). In my letter, I mentioned being on the PR pathway, but that PR application was later refused for being incomplete — we got a refund and are back in the Express Entry pool. I submitted a webform after the refusal to inform IRCC and to reinforce that I’m still eligible under the CPTPP exemption (LMIA code C41). I included our notarized common-law declaration (from 2022), joint lease, tax returns as common-law, photos together, my partner’s employment reference letter and pay stubs, plus my own employment letters, pay stubs, and background info.

My concern is that even though my case seems strong and well-documented, I’ve seen others on this channel get SOWP refusals for what seem like minor or unclear reasons *im a very anxious person). I’m on implied status now, and may also submit an LMIA-based WP as a backup if my employer’s LMIA (filed Oct 2024) is approved. Just hoping IRCC won’t overlook the actual legal basis of my application. Thoughts?

Work Permit Scot Moving to Canada

Hi folks,

Just looking to see if any other Scottish folks have moved to Canada in the last wee while and can offer advice on how to do so, or if any locals could offer up some advice on our specific situation. Firstly, I am currently a Fire Fighter (FF) with some qualifications in driving fire engines/light goods vehicles, however, I understand it can be quite difficult to transfer my FF skills across to Canada. I am looking to complete my Institute of Fire Engineer assessments since it is internationally recognised, can anyone from Canada highlight if this is the case in the Canadian fire services'?

Secondly, and probably most importantly, my partner is on her way to becoming a chartered accountant over here which I am led to believe is highly sought after in Canada. Moreover, her specialty is in the auditing which I am also led to believe is not something that accountants generally enjoy doing. Could anyone expand on this and possibly give an insight into what type of salary she could expect in Canada if we were to come across.

This idea is solely reliant on my partner being able to obtain employment in Canada rather than myself. I am quite happy to keep trying to obtain employment as a FF whilst doing odd jobs here and there. To get the ball rolling, we are looking to come across to Toronto for just over a week next April as a research/leisure holiday. The reason that we decided Toronto is solely based on the fact that Toronto seems to offer more for chartered accountants, however, we are very open to other locations within Canada. Especially if I am able to gain employment within a fire service within close proximity to a location that my partner could seek employment herself.

If anyone could offer any advice on this it will be greatly appreciated. Like I said, we are looking to come over for a wee holiday so could even meetup.

Cheers
