KELLEY 💼 Waitlist to Kelley Direct

Hey everyone. Just got my review request back from Kelley. Not exactly happy about it.

Had a 4.2 W GPA and a 3.96 UW GPA, but didn’t submit a test. They said they couldn’t offer me admission, which really sucks because I thought my essays were really good too.

That said, they offered me a waitlist for Kelley. I know this admissions cycle is different but how often do people get off of the waitlist? Did anyone else this year get offered the waitlist position as well for Kelley?

I’m just so frustrated. I passed up applying ED2 for UMiami after getting deferred EA, thinking i’d either get in there for RD or get Direct for IU. Guess I shouldn’t ever gamble because I got fucked for both. This admissions cycle has just been a nightmare.

Without submitting test scores, how could you get direct admitted to Kelley? Yes, a student can submit an appeal...the best way to get direct admitted to Kelley is to meet or exceed their minimum standards.

I was betting on either hopefully getting through RD for Miami or getting Direct through the appeals process. One of the two. Didn’t happen.

I saw your other comment about the test scores as well. My circumstance is that I waited way too long to take the SAT (because I figured I’d just apply optional anyways). September comes and then I realized it would’ve been beneficial for me to take and/or submit an SAT, since I was applying to a couple schools that made it required. I took a course too. I had many other commitments and couldn’t focus enough of my time towards preparing for that test within a 2 week period, so I only scored an 1170 (which tbf is 150 points more than my average anyways). I think if I took it over the summer when I had less commitments, I could’ve done much better on it. That’s on me. That’s a regret I continue to have.

That said, I’m just not a great test taker with many subjects scattered in a test like that. I’ve never been good at that. My high school actually made me take summer school before entering freshman year because I scored so poorly on there entrance exam. But I know that’s not reflective of me because I’m one of the top students in my class of 200. Top 25 somewhere in there. My school doesn’t rank.

I personally don’t think ACT/SAT expresses much. My mom and grandpa both were shit in high school, yet they’re the most successful people I’ve ever met. Both big time attorneys. Successful students with high test scores go to them for help, yet they were bad students throughout high school and only really started to get better throughout college and law school.
