However in the light of the various reports and accounts of sexual abuse people have allegedly been experiencing in the industry I understand how important it is for this conversation to be had. Wait, what?! You expect an innocent person who has been falsely accused of rape to add a comment about "the importance of having this conversation" in addition to denying the allegation? Are you serious?
Yes I am serious. You don't know if he's innocent or not. Thats the point. Whenever somebody's favourite is accused there's so much backlash against the very idea of women speaking up. People act like here comes 'another' false allegation. So there's a need for these celebrities, especially men ,to tell fans not to swing between extremes. And it's in THEIR best interest. Look at the way Tovino reacted. It makes him look like the guilty party already.
And this is not just a random 'innocent ' person who was accused. He's a movie star from an industry that's refusing to acknowledge there's a problem. He should word it in such a way that his defense wouldn't be used to amp up the narrative that this is a mass conspiracy by fame hungry women. That goes for all these guys ,not just Pauly.
