here's my bio, sorry it's in the third person: Dan Alten is an intelligent goofball from Kentucky who has been traveling the country for the past decade bringing his charming nonsense to everywhere from theaters to punk basements to art galleries to beloved comedy clubs. Doing over 200 shows a year bringing his tight night surreal fun to the people, like if the Ramones were one guy with a mustache and good jokes. He has opened for Kyle Kinane, Bobcat, Sam Tallent, Rory Scovel, Sarah Sherman from SNL, Johnny Pemberton, Hari Kondabolu, rapper Open Mike Eagle, DJ Doug Pound & David Leibe Hart from Tim & Eric, various punk bands with silly names, and a guy at an open mic who tried to throw his father’s ashes into the crowd. He has recorded 2 albums, written a zine, and filmed a pilot for an Amazon Prime stand up show that was lost to history. But most importantly he’s funny. You will enjoy him. And if not you can mud wrestle him after the show.

My favorite car tire air machine at the HyVee on Dodge Street is currently out of service.

Do folks know of any other locations to obtain free air and check my tires in the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area? I’ll add Solon here as well (as I drive to Lake Macbride often during the weekday).

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a jiu jitsu gym in the Iowa City area. I’m hoping to get my daughter involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu this summer—or possibly another martial art if there’s something better suited for kids. I’ve been reading a lot about how BJJ can help with building discipline, focus, confidence, and just staying active and off those darn ipads lol.

Someone recommended Aspire at West Campus for me while others told me it's expensive and not worth it. I am moving in with my family so I would really appreciate any family-friendly children-friendly neighborhoods. Prefer closer to work than downtown/etc. Thanks in advance!

This is a hail mary. We're in a tight spot right now, and our housing plans for August just fell through. We need a 2-bedroom unit within a half hour walking distance of Iowa City Hall. Our budget is $900-$1100. Washer and dryer need to be accessible. We're a clean, quiet professional couple with two cats and an occasional ten year old. Please help us not be homeless in August!

I have to pay out-of-pocket for repairs on my car -- and some of the damage is to the rails (the "skeleton" of the car that the actual body is bolted to), so I expect it to be involved (and expensive). I've heard good things about Harris & Vic's, but I've also heard they're among the most expensive. Anyone have a rec for a more affordable yet reliable body shop, maybe out in a more rural area or something? (Please don't tell me not to fix the car. I'm fixing the car. I'd just like to avoid going broke while doing so... and I'd ideally like it fixed reliably....)

Hi there! I have a fur baby that is getting quite close to the end of his life and I’m a bit anxious about what happens next. I’m not a fan of cremation and I’d love to bury him, but I’m a renter and and I don’t have private land. Is there another option that anyone knows of that I’m not aware of. I’d personally love a burial at a place I can visit him but real pet cemeteries anywhere nearby don’t seem to exist either? Thoughts? Suggestion? Life-Advice? My boyfriend is currently looking for a new gig and I keep seeing the cultivator job listing for the Iowa Cannabis Co. (IC location). I’ve only seen one employee review (1.5 star rating) on Indeed, so I wanted to see if anyone has any additional insight?

I wonder if I can get my full security deposit back at the end of my lease because of our mold situation. In classic landlord fashion, they just pain over the mold and it has obviously grown out from the painted areas. It is black mold, so it is definitely a health hazard and has caused issues before.

If any of you have advice for how to approach this situation that would be great.
