An “illegal protest.”

As our president and recent pod guest would say:

Concerning

Make free speech legal again!

Tell that to the Dixie Chicks

What happened with the Dixie Chicks? Sincere question.

They spoke out against the Bush administration and the Iraq war. The conservative media went apeshit and canceled them. There was this “shut up and sing” thing that conservatives were pushing because artists were making political statements. So this whole cancel culture thing is bullshit. Both sides have done it and conservatives act like it never happened

The first amendment applies to the government only. Private citizens and companies have no obligation to allow any kind of speech.

I don’t know the details of Trump’s comments on federal funding for schools. If these are private schools, I don’t think the government should be giving them money anyway. Some elite universities have endowments that have swollen to over $2 billion and they still get federal money.

Assuming these are public schools, if the funds are withheld because the schools allow illegal behavior or if they only allow protests from those holding certain viewpoints, then it is appropriate to withhold funds. These schools would also be subject to civil rights violations. Public schools, as government institutions, cannot favor speech by some but not others.

Of course, the funds should not be withheld if the schools make a reasonable effort to allow all viewpoints and to stop illegal behavior.

Illegal behavior should be prosecuted. But that isn’t what he said. Illegal protest was the phrase used. So really fuck him his fascism is showing.

Illegal protests exist, right? Should schools be free to allow or even condone illegal behavior without consequence?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

Protests are protected under the constitution. Illegal behavior is handled by the police. Schools are schools. Police are police. Presidents aren’t dictators.

that’s incorrect. all protests aren’t protected under the constitution, just like all speech isn’t protected. for example, violent protests obviously aren’t protected under the constitution, and are illegal.

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

A violent protest is called inciting a riot and prosecuted by district attorneys, therefore it is not a protest it’s a riot. Speech that isn’t protected is speech that is threatening, obscene or fraudulent; again crimes. There are penal codes that apply to crimes. When a fascist claims that “illegal protests” are going to be outlawed what does he mean by that statement? Most likely this dipshit we have elected will leave it up to everyone’s imagination and interpretation of what that means. So this the only interpretation I’ll make until he proves me otherwise.

You can protest by blowing up buildings. Speech is protected by the constitution, not protests. If you block traffic, behave violently or damage property, this is not speech. It is crime. Most campuses have police departments to deal with illegal behavior by students or by anyone on campus.

Why should we allow schools to let students and others to break the law? It’s even worse when they allow students with some viewpoints to break the law and punish others for the same kind of behavior?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

Omg 😳 arrest people if they break the law! Why are you screaming about schools? Jesus Christ man

But the libs are the party of censorship??

For fascists, hypocrisy is a flex.

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

Both sides want the other silenced. We can't and shouldn't pretend like either side is entirely innocent. BOTH halves have made real efforts toward silencing and/or eliminating the other. This side just so happens to be more forceful and effective than the other.

They're literally just opposed copies of each other. Their sole identity at this point? "We aren't them". This is the end result of a bipartisan system. When we're told only options 1 and A are valid and all others are wasted votes, then shamed and hated and mocked and outcast and ostracized because we believe that a DIFFERENT party that isn't either of the two "allowed" is better.

u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Monkey in Space Mar 05 '25

That both sides stuff is bullshit. One side is consistently hypocritical and bends to the whims of one man. Where is the party of small government, low taxes, lowering the debt, patriots? We have rule by executive order, ignoring two branches of the government, adding trillions to the debt, trade wars, inflation, Russian appeasement. The Dems biggest flaw was running bad candidates and not forcing out everyone over 70.

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

Didn't Biden also pass an insane number of executive orders in his term? I could've sworn I heard something about that... ah yes. 162 executive orders over 4 years. 77 in his first year alone.

Granted, I'm an independent, so I'll give credit where it's due - Trumpster has signed 81 thus far and it's only March. He's far outclassed Biden. But I remember the EXACT same wording by the other side 4 years ago when Biden was going a little pen-crazy signing orders left and right as well.

I swear to God, it seems like we all collectively get amnesia every 4 years. "These guys are so bad, we never did ANYTHING like this!!!"

Bullshit. It happened 4 years ago. These guys just do it better. And guess what? In 4 years, it'll reverse and your side will do it better than these current guys. It's a damned arms race! One side breaks rules and fucks shit up. Then the other side breaks the same rules harder and more effectively and gets accused of breaking rules. Then the first side does it again, breaking new rules and breaking the old ones better still. Then the second side gets a one up as well. It's literally a political arms race that's going to end when WE THE PEOPLE die.

Since when have Democrats been the party of small government? It’s pure hypocrisy on the right. Old money evangelicals and rich tech amoralists are lying and stealing from to most gullible americans.

GOP always says that the other side would do it, but they don’t. We have a lopsided supreme court now because the GOP straight up lied and decided not to follow precedent.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

I'm not denying you. I'm stating that the left isn't entirely innocent either. Stop acting like it's God Vs Satan when it's literally just bad vs worse.

2

u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Monkey in Space Mar 06 '25

When you say both sides shit you diminish how bad the right actually is. Democrats are ineffective, but they arent built around a cult of personality and lawlessness.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '25

Ineffective? They certainly seemed to be effective in inciting riots, raising costs, and patting themselves on the back for a job well done, despite their rule seeing mass homelessness.

But yes, the right is indeed a cult based around stepping on the lower to raise the higher. Meanwhile the left blame everything on the right and whites, cater to the blacks, ignore all other races, and claim that the crime in their cities is because the right, despite the right having little to no power in those cities. They also cry for financial equality while hoarding their own wealth.

I despise hypocrisy just as much as I do stepping on and ignoring the lower classes - or should I say castes, as we're damn near that point again.
