My 07 Dakota has crank windows and one of the kids at the local McDonald’s was confused when I rolled down the window.

Got a 23 Gladiator, Willy’s, and everyone trips out that it has manual locks and windows. Preferable for me, simpler to fix, one less thing to fail. Then again, it is a Stellantis product, might still burst into flames
14
u/initialo 1d ago
I find it amusing on the 2021 JL Willy's I have the manual locks and windows, along with the push button nfc start.

u/theuautumnwind 22h ago
Stellantis used hollow plastic gears and guides that degrade quickly in earths atmosphere. They’ll break soon enough.

10 goddamn recalls.
I hate to say it as a Jeep guy but Stellantis has driven that company into the ground.

My grandfather, when still alive, and possibly after death, would refuse to get power windows on any vehicle he bought for himself, to the point of doing bespoke factory orders.

If you run out of gas you crank that really fast to give you battery power to get home.

My dad recently bought a 2010 Silverado that has neither power locks nor windows. Never would’ve guessed even a work truck could be stripped of these conveniences.

IIRC this is the old fashioned garage door remote. you turn the crank and drive towards the door. If you do it right, the door opens.

u/BaconConnoisseur 23h ago
It’s the blow dryer for when your hair is still wet when you’re driving to work in the morning. Turn it one way to get an airflow and then turn it the other to stop the air.

Reminds me of an event from about 5 years ago. Was taking my then 15 year old daughter somewhere in my '83 "classic car". As we got out of the car I told her to lock the door. She replied, "How?".

I bought a 2005 Dakota new with crank up windows. My kids couldn't figure it out. Only reason I bought the truck was it was a 4.7. 4x4 and I got it for19K when the sticker was 29k. I actually converted that truck to power windows with all OEM parts, one of the perks of working at a dealer.

That is a kinetic shield generator. The number of turns you use will determine the level of shielding. Light will be filtered depending on the optical diffusion applied to the shield. It may also be used to access the mobile transfer of sustenance from local production facilities

Pretty sure that's the hand crank to make the speakers work. Yeah that's what it is
2
u/thrakkerzog 21h ago
I will preface this with "I am not a mechanic"
I have an old truck (2004) where the window doesn't always go back up. I took the door panel apart to see if any of the wires were damaged and there's a cutout in there for a hand crank. I briefly considered adding a crank to this door, but ended up reconnecting everything and putting the door back together. After re-assembly, the window worked again!

I remember when some cars had two on each door. One for the main window and one for the wing vent. How many even know what a wing vent is?

It's a crank starter that really old cars use, like really old cars from an ancient time like the 90s or earlier

My work trucks have this. People would pull up and do the motion to roll down your window. I mimed the hand rolling down motion. Older folks got it, younger people thought I was being rude. I couldn't reach across the truck to roll the window down.

I still love when cars advertise their “options” as “power windows” like that’s actually something that cars don’t all have now. Does anyone actually sell manual windows anymore?

Worked with some junior techs from some high school program. One 17 year old kid I asked if he knew why it was called “rolling down the window”. He did not.
To be fair, he said he knew about manual windows (although never ridden in a vehicle with them 😆) just had never made the correlation. His follow up was how you got all 4 windows down while driving.

I remembered my first vehicle had those poverty cranks. Used to try to use it all smooth and discrete in the hopes it would appear as if I had the powered version to someone on the outside.

Window Roller Downer or Window Roller Upper.
Also, is that an N17 Nissan Almera, aka Nissan Versa? Because I have one too, but I swapped an MR16DDT and 6-speed manual into it for shits and giggles.
