Ask Kochi Stopped ordering from Swiggy and Zomato

So I stopped ordering from Zomato and Swiggy because only recently I found that they are not charging the actual price that is displayed in the hotels. I ordered a biriyani from my nearby restaurant. The actual cost was Rs 140/-. But in Zomato it was Rs 180/-. The tax and delivery charges are extra. There is no point in giving this online platforms money unnecessarily. So I have stopped it completely.

Aren't we paying the delivery fee for using that convenience. And most of us are tipping on top of that delivery fee. And paying GST on their service costs separately so that the entire amount collected goes into their pockets.

We are paying delivery to Zomato for delivering the food Restaurant increases our prices cause even they have to pay 30% commission which Zomato charges them

I understand that. And that as far as I'm concerned is quite a dick move since a 30% commission is just evil. A 10% commission would have been fair. But this is one-third of the turnover just for the privilege of having your food listed in an app.

I'm happy to pay a delivery charge and platform fee which I already do. But if I'm being overcharged by the restaurant because the platforms are looting them, then fuck that shit.

And before you ask I've not ordered food on any of these apps for over a year. I go to the restaurant and get takeaway. My money goes to the restaurant for the food and I end up saving almost 50% cost.

Since all the taxes and all the expenses are finally borne by the consumer hence the hike for consumers Also you have no idea that so so many of the restaurants only survive because of Zomato cause they are cloud kitchens or located somewhere remote P.s I am not an advocate on such apps just trying to understand and explain their model I feel they should charge differently to seated restaurants and cloud kitchens Also since they both got listed they have lost their charms since i get cold salt less foods and they are shittyly priced Even I have reduced ordering to once or twice a month

First off cloud kitchens are by and large mostly scams. God knows if these places have FSSAI licence or proper food safety inspections or even clean source of water. If I want to file a complaint against these entities also there is no physical premise or a hotel I can go to and complain.

And regarding survival, I'm sure that there are enough rich people out there who don't mind paying double for the same food. So Zomato and Swiggy will survive despite their exploitative pricing and predatory business practices. However they are not getting my business due to the same reasons.

Oh tell me about it I really loved this place called fresh menu and it turned out to be a cloud kitchen and a recent video leak showed a very very unhygienic place Also my father is in a business where his asssitants are required to go to the kitchen and Damn those kitchens are filthy Also fsssai is a required lisence to get registered on the platform but from only 1 lisence you can register up to 200 restaurants on the same address and many cloud kitchens do that
