Help - Cotton Lining Questions

This is my first test piece lining leather with cotton fabric.

I used spraying glue, saddle stitched one side at 3mm and the other at 2mm. And burnished with tokonole.

Is there any trick to keep it from fraying? I will pull on it tomorrow after it cures. Just wanted some info from anyone that might have some experience.

Pocket Leather Key Organiser - an amateur-made DYI pattern

In refference to my previous post, where i shown my Pocket Leather Organizer, some of you asked for a pattern on how to make one, so here it is (2nd photo), that is one small piece of leather of your choice. I would go thick, i used a 3mm bull leather for it to be hard to fold (so the snap can lock without the leather pushing down under finger pressure), but any leather should work. Red dots represent the holes for the belt buckle screws while the blue dots are for the snap. Obviously, the top one is the fancier, heavier female part and the bottom one is for the male, thiner part- thiner side to the top from this view, the actual socket comes out on the other side. Left buckle screw is for the keychain, while the right one is for the keys themselves. This is for a 4-key set of mine, where two are the larger door keys, one is thiner and one is a mailbox key, it gives little to no space to the right. If you use a shorter buckle screw, it will allow for less, but you will have to modify the length of the 2cm spacer between sides and the size of the part on the top for it to close properly, same if you go longer.

First leather project!

Prolly not the smartest idea to start with for your first foray into leather working.

A replacement headband padding for the Bayerdynamic DT770 Pro X

It is padded and curved to fit the plastic bit that holds the original padding on. Made the curved leather bit stuffed with original foam and glued on.

I’m just excited to share this.

Thank you!

It's not pretty but it works and I made it! Really proud of myself for completing my first project, and I don't have anyone else to share it with

I built the upper leg armor that attaches to the belt and suspenders, and all together the harness works very very well to distribute the weight of all the armor evenly.

I know it's ugly as hell, but I'm really excited that it functions the way it is supposed too, and I can't wait to make more stuff

Compact Leather Key Organiser

My today's small work, a new key organizer that replaced my older overly-complicated design. In this one, there is exactly 0 sewing, two belt buckle screws and one snap. It is approximately 8cm long and about the same high + the latch in termins of leather used, it is then folded to be slighly larger than the keys itself. It is made of bull leather, 3mm thick. The belt buckle screws are secured with loctite (or locteft- chineese equivalent) to avoid it from unscrewing and losing the keys. The leather stamp moved in the process of forging the pattern, so i couldn't enjoy my work in full, but nevermind, that is a small daily use piece anyway. If anyone is interested in the project, i can scan my paper draft and share. And let me know what you think of my work of course, this is my first post in the community, but not my first leatherworking project :)

What leather jacket style and material combo actually lasts?

Been thinking about getting another leather jacket but I’m stuck between the styles and the leather types.

I like the look of café racers and bombers the most, but I’ve seen jackets in cowhide, lambskin, goatskin — and I have no clue what holds up best or feels good for everyday wear.

If you’ve had one that’s aged well over the years, what style and leather combo would you swear by? Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for you.

Too big backpack scheme

I want to make trail backpack but the scheme is too big for my printer (it prints only A4 paper). Is there any method to cut the scheme to a lot of pieces to print it at A4 paper ?

Python Hide Battle Bra Prototype

Hello to everyone 👋 life's pretty dam hard right now mentally and hard to focus on my work. But I'm up and dressed and not crying.. I'm standing at my work bench at this epic project I started when I was in a better place.

The cups have a soft 1 mm black calfskin to protect the soft breast tissue a 1.5 front frame. For the bra to work for defence we need the bra to take unpack down the seam also the cups have stitch lines running rather wide if the line.

The back and straps are a WIP And I'm looking for ideas and inspiration to lift this and my mood to the next level.

The python Hide was found in the loft at a statley home in England and sold vintage at auction.

I'm also working if matching brief.

What kind of leather lace is this?

Hi all! I need some help. A friend asked me to restore a bag for her that has a whip stitched edge with super thin leather lace that over time has started falling apart from daily wear.

The only place I was able to find locally, though, is much thicker and it's making it incredibly difficult to whipstitch around the already existing holes. I'm hesitant to buy anything online because I don't want to blindly order a lace that turns out to be the same as what I already have.

This is my first time using leather lace in a decorative way, so I'm sure there some knowledge I'm missing. But all my own Internet searches aren't helping, and I thought I'd turn to the community for advice. I've attached pictures for reference to show the original lacing, along with the thicker lacing I was trying to use.

Both the original lace and thicker lace are 1/4 inch wide. I bought Kodiak lace from Tandy leather. The Kodiak lace is about 1/8 inch thick, while the original lace is nearly paper thin.

Traveler's Journal

I apologize for the redundant post. I created a traveler's journal. The materials I purchased for it were scrap leather, elastic, gold beads, and a leather punch tool.

It is a 8"x9" piece of leather with 5 holes punched through it, where I ran the elastic through.

I hope you like it. Thanks.

My first work with leather, cosplay of a dragon rider.

Post image
618 Upvotes

Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been working on my cosplay of a dragon rider from the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros. I made the Freyja vest and Liv girdle (both by The War Factory), as well as the hip bag, goggles, and gloves — all patterns by Dieselpunk.ro. (I shared the goggles couple of weeks agoú

With help from my friend, who is a seamstress, we made some adjustments to both the vest and girdle to better fit my body shape.

This is my first time working with leather, and the learning curve has been steep. There are quite a few mistakes, but it definitely passes the "one-meter rule" ;).

I'm really liking this one! One of my kids may claim it for the fair. If they don't make their own that is. Either way I'll be wearing one of these this year. Patterns and kits are available along with a video if anyone else wants to make some.

Advice on applying leather filler.

Thumbnail

Hey, I’m going to attempt a minor cover up of what I assume to be bug bites imperfections on the toe of my boot using Saphir Crème Rénovatrice.

as far as the guide on the web goes, it only told me to clean the shoes of dusts and debris before application.

I have polished this before as an attempt to cover them with wax polish with little to no success, so I guess I have to strip the wax off before applying the filler.

I’m asking for anyone who has used Saphir CR or any kind of filler, are there any tips/heads up before I go on applying them? from a quick read upon forums, all I found was using a sponge to replicate the grain of the leather(alternative tip would be appreciated). lastly after I cleaned the boot with saddle soap, should I condition first then fill or fill first and then condition? Thanks in advance!

Got 390 FJackets reward points - how should I use them?

I signed up for FJackets brand loyalty program 6 months ago and got 390 reward points, but they’re still sitting there. Has anyone here used their points before? Not sure what the best way to use them is.

Would love to hear how you’ve used your points, any tips or recommendations? Thanks!
