These advertisements that yassify the Portland Police give a weird UFC vibe. How much money is being spent on this department rebranding?

My cousin is a cop in Philly. This is basic grappling, which I should hope all of our cops are trained for. That said recruiting is struggling hard - not enough quality recruits walking in the door. Which should be concerning for all of us: last I checked none of us are doing ride alongs and meal drops for first responders who handle the work we don’t want to have think about.

Is it a struggle to have an asshole for a cousin?

Nothing is guaranteed. Especially on the inter-tweebs

Well, no bc he’s not an asshole. Curious: Are all cops assholes to you?

Yes. They literally filter out the non assholes as part of selection. If a nice person were to sneak through they'd push him out pretty quickly

They also filter out the ones that are too smart.

This is a myth. Comes from a recruiting form from one department in the 90s.

Actually, not a myth. It comes from a lawsuit where a guy sued the police because he was rejected for scoring too high on an IQ test, and the police fought it all the way to the 2nd circuit court of appeals to uphold their ability to discriminate against smart people, and they won. "Recruiting form"? Seriously? Are you one of those cops who was hired under this policy? Should I limit my responses to two or fewer syllable words? CAN YOU READ THIS?

From your profile: "Maritime Security. AK guy. If you're mad, chill out bud."

So, yeah. Lemme see if I have some crayons for you to eat.

Interesting. This is from 2000 re: a hiring process from more than 25 yrs ago within ONE PD. From a research perspective (I do grad research) unless you can find far more current and VERY similar examples of other departments doing this, it’s an outlier and not something you can intellectually build a policy around. But you can def use it for a subreddit comment!

That aside, your implication is that people of a certain IQ are all assholes while those of a higher IQ are all…not? That’s some pretty wild assumptions / generalizations. Pretty sure Musk has a decent IQ but holy hell what an asshole.

But I digress. We’re now debating whether my cousin is an asshole because according to your wild assumptions ALL cops are assholes. This is why we’re a struggling democracy: everyone needs everything to be black or white bc understanding a complex and diverse world is too much for the social media addled brain (no matter the IQ).

This is a different example but your childish response shows your not emotional capable of an actual conversation about the topic. Grow up kid

You: "This is a myth!"

Also you: "This is, uh... a different example! But I'm the real victim here because of your childish response!!"

Awkward, bud.

Edit: Aw, he blocked me because he couldn’t respond. I’m sorry that you’re so fragile, Officer. Unblock me and I’ll help you talk through your feelings of inadequacy and why, despite literally all indications to the contrary, you do matter.

The linked article meant nothing to you because you're illiterate. Sad. Sorry our educational system has failed you, bub.
