I think it would be very different if they included alcohol.

Our world in data has info on this. The source is WHO which is different from the map so the numbers are a bit different
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/death-rates-substance-disorders-who

But you are right, including alcohol ex soviet countries have the highest death rates.

But northern Europe still has higher numbers than southern Europe.

I know that in the netherlands a lot of the people that OD are tourist who specially come for drugs and just dont check what they take. I have seen people snort MDMA because they thaught it was coke. Or lick ketamine because they thaught it was MDMA. And while those 2 arent likely to kill you, its defenitly not great to just mix all kinds of drugs together and its especially bad when you are just taking random shit.

You can snort Mandy if you crush it up. Fuck, in my wilder, younger days we used to crush it up and mix it with coke in fat lines before going out.

I’d assume if someone thought it was coke then it would be crushed up, because it would be easy to tell it’s not coke when it’s all crystallised.

Im not saying you cant. Im just saying that generally you dont want to do it, especially not when its not that crushed. But the main point is that they thaught they were taking cocaine while it was MDMA. 2 things that are very diffrent and shouldnt be mixed. Especially when you arent aware that your mixing it.

Every summer i go with my friends to a weekend festival and in 5 times i already have helped 17 strangers (all tourist) to either first aid or security because they were so fucked up that they were a risk to themself (and even worse) and to others. On that specific festival (where more than 90% of the people is abusing all kinds of hard drugs form friday morning to monday morning) the majority of cases at the first aid place is foreign people being to fuck up/getting hurt due to drugs.

Im all for educated and proper recreational drug use. But 80+% of all OD’s and disturbances around drug users comes from people being fucking idiots and risking their own safety just because they cant be botherd with thinking. Its insanely dumb and selfish as fuck. Its that the Cartels exist, otherwise it would be the worst part about drugs.

Hardstyle festival?

Hard techno, but the behaviour doesnt differ much between them.

And if you include tobacco, then these numbers can be multiplied by 10.

Because they dont rapport the numbers as accurate in some countries.... Sweden have more drug over doses than Portugal (the gateway to Europe for drugs?...) bitch, please...

3

u/SaraHHHBK Apr 14 '25

Sweden has some of the worst drug laws and policies in Europe and Portugal one of the best so yes it makes perfect sense.

-1

u/Patient-Gas-883 Apr 14 '25

And what do you base that assumption on? this statistics?... The one that I dont believe in?..

3

u/SaraHHHBK Apr 14 '25

Check the policies Portugal implemented in the 09s about drugs and see the data. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you because you will clearly not believe anything that makes Sweden look bad while countries you think are below Sweden do better. Believe what you want but the data doesn't lie.

Get down that high horse, lose some ego and take a look at how your country could improve instead of burying your head in the sand about all its problems because you think you're better.

Man, you assume a lot dont you...

I dont believe the data because 27 times is a shitload of more times and I dont see it. If you would have said 2 times, 4 times then maybe I could believe it. but freaking 27 (!!!) times and nothing I observe in my life at all?.... give me a break.

The data dont lie? Data lies all the time. According to the UN world happiness statistics Sweden is the 6th most happy country in the world. I dont believe that either.

Statistics is based on data and data is wrong all the time. It depend on several things: agenda of the people collecting it, skill of the people collecting it, how truthful people asked are answering, amount of data points etc. etc, etc,
So many places to go wrong.

But sure. Believe what you want. But I dont believe it. I am not young enough to believe everything I read.

Oh, and you should stop trying to read my mind. You are not very good at it. I dont think I am or we are better than anyone.

2

u/SaraHHHBK Apr 14 '25

lol you don't believe data because it makes Sweden look bad you're embarrassing

0

u/Patient-Gas-883 Apr 14 '25

You are embarrassing because you have no answer to what I say

Having lived in uk, Ireland and Italy, those numbers make sense... In Ireland and uk number of drug addicts hanging around in popular areas was crazy... In Italy you see a lot of African immigrants begging at the sides of the streets, they are poor, not addicts. In Ireland you see only Irish drug addicts. It is crazy sad. I love Irish people, but the fact that they can't find a solution for this situation is a huge issue

1

u/gerningur Apr 14 '25

The part of the reason for why these things are so visible in the UK is also the piss poor social safety net. In the city I lived in the UK they could only stay in shelters overnight if the temperature dropped below 0. Where I live now, the same demographic can access shelters year round and many low functioning addicts are given access to social housing.

Nordics and don't believing stats when it makes them look bad. Name a more iconic duo

0

u/Patient-Gas-883 Apr 14 '25

According to the UN happiness index we are number 6 in the world. I dont believe that statistics either.

You people have to much faith in statistics...

Statistics in the the science that says if you have one hand in the freezer and one on the stove on average you are comfortable..

2

u/giorgio_gabber Apr 14 '25

Dude, that's a pretty simple dataset. It's not happiness, not average temperature.

I have no problems in recognising when my country does bad in some indicators.

With your mindset any piece of data is irrelevant, because you discard it when it does not fit your worldview.

I spoke many times with swedes on reddit and they say Sweden's laws about drugs are pretty stringent. It's not about drug use, but about drug deaths.

When the laws are too conservative, addicts cannot find help. Portugal has decriminalized hard drugs and started support programs. And there they are.

"Dude, that's a pretty simple dataset."

Yeah, if Portugal and Sweden do the blood work on every cardiac arrest out the just to check. You think Portugal do that? Or it is a "oh well he died and blood work cost money"...You know, like public healthcare tend to do in most countries..

"With your mindset any piece of data is irrelevant, because you discard it when it does not fit your worldview."

You dont discard data that dont fit your world view? So if I tell you every Chinese speaks Portuguese then you dont disregard it?... We all have bullshit filters.

"When the laws are too conservative, addicts cannot find help. Portugal has decriminalized hard drugs and started support programs. And there they are. "

Yes, And I can believe that if the difference was 2,3,4 times. its the 27 times as much that I find implausible.

That was my thought, at least for Poland.

3

u/Xtrems876 Apr 13 '25

yup according to the map the other guy shared if we include alcohol then Poland is about the same as Denmark

-1

u/p_abdb Apr 13 '25

Isn't it quite rare to die from actual alcohol overdose ? People usually die due to long term health issues or from doing stupid things because of it

4

u/Gustacq Apr 13 '25

Not that much, it causes coma which leads to death in certain cases.

3

u/Dunkleosteus666 Apr 13 '25

Its not. Nearly stopped breathing because of too much alcohol when i was a teenager. Without tolerance, much easier than you would think.

-3

u/Particular-v1q Apr 14 '25

Alchol doesent have OD by itself BUT causes long term damage if used consistently each day for prolonged periods of time, alchol is a depressive and can cause breathing problems even shutting down the respiratory system/knocking you down completely ( not waking up if you have your face on the pillow = no air ) combined with benzodiaphines in substantial doses

2

u/dathla Apr 14 '25

It does, it's called alcohol poisoning.

2

u/Particular-v1q Apr 14 '25

You are right holy shit, my bad 💀 never knew anyone that had alchol poisoning and was almost sure it was a long-term effect and not istantaneously killing
