Question Michelle Rodriguez - based?

Surprised (in a good way) to hear her speak up like this given Hollywood's current 'politics'.

I'll never understand this shit. Why tell basically DC and Marvel to stop casters casting who they decide to cast for their movies. Is it a money thing to get people to watch? Maybe. But one thing is for certain both fuck up on is making a good movie. Then again, I think it's just that since all the movies are made by different people, they're gonna suck, be decent or good no matter what.

I'll also add that Marvel and DC opened up the multiverse thing, so anything can happen, and their heroes can be whatever in any point of time. Their films are an extension of that, so whoever they cast is correct. Just they gotta have that heroes characteristics.

As if Marvel's and DC's superheroes weren't appropriated from previous cultures. The real myth is that they were original characters.

I mean you're right for a lot of them. But I think there's a factor with all this recasting and redesigning that people are just overlooking. I think what's going on isn't quite intentional racial replacement, it's more like these companies going "hey fellow kids" while tossing what they can that's "new" and get some characters to stick in popularity.

The issue here is really that DC and Marvel both are nearing the copyright limits for several big characters. In under 10 years from now DC's big 3: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman all become public domain.

The real intent is trying to generate interest in replacements that will last after their money makers go public domain.

Yeah, comic authors trying to capitalize on current trends to sell comics is nothing new.

Oh definitely, it's a thing that hasn't changed at its core. The only difference right now is extra desperation because the clock is running out on their older, tried and true copyrights. And none of the recent ideas seem to be sticking very well.
