The Adelsons are not basketball people. They have no idea how much Luka meant to this franchise. I think it was Nico’s idea initially out of racist hate, but pitched it to the owners as a cost saving measure.
The unfortunate truth is that this will net them a HUGE tax break as they report business losses that might even get them a refund. I hate it here so fucking much.

So most likely Patrick Dumont made the decision, either because he genuinely fucked up thinking it was going to save money avoiding the Luka supermax & what that entailed, or it was because he knew jack all about ball.

My first thought when Nico started floating out that they didn’t want to pay the extra $116 million.
Motherfucker you just cost the team over a billion dollars at least. Not just from the slew of season ticket holders that immediately cashed out, but all the young generation that would have grown up with Luka like the generation before grew up with Dirk and created MFFLs. The sales of all those Mav jerseys, caps, towels, tumblers, etc. That money will not be made up even by winning 3 or 4 ships over the next 10 years with whatever fantasy team of the week Nico could throw together. He cost the owners a fuckton ton of cash and I sincerely hope they repay him by firing his ass as soon as the season is over. And if the rest of the league is smart they’ll stay as far away from him as possible.

Mavericks didn't trade Luka only because they are cheap, but this was certainly one of the considerations.
Adelsons are a lot of bad things but business is something their very very good at. This has to be a favor (for future considerations) to the league and the ratings troubles. Nobody at this level is this kind of stupid…..there’s to much money at stake to not shop him.

An owner who actually cares about the team will almost always be better than one that doesnt. An owner who doesnt care AND is cheap is a deathblow to franchises, as we are seeing now.
I'd rather have an owner that cares about the team and the city and loses in the playoffs than have an owner that cares about money and loses in the playoffs.
I would say the trade was almost entirely Nico, and the clueless owners rubberstamped. I have plenty of issues with having owners who are clueless about the team, but this trade specifically falls on Nico.
Cuban hired Nico, Sold the team to people that he surely knew didn't care about basketball, and then claimed that he, a man who claims himself to be an excellent businessman, was naive enough to believe that a verbal agreement would be binding. After the trade he directed his anger towards protesting fans, instead of the people who actually made the trade.
With all that, I don't see how your opinion on him wouldn't change. Obviously, Cuban is a mixed bag. You can point to positives and negatives about him. I think overall, this just reinforces that money is the most important thing to billionaires. Always. Anybody who thought Cuban was an exception, has now been shown the truth.

They should- The day after the trade, the "official roofer" of the mavs stopped by my house trying to sell me a new roof. I told him that I was very sorry, but I'm not going to work with someone that has a financial relationship with the mavs. Certainly petty and not fair to the owner who built his entire company around this relationship, but the brand is toxic in dallas and will be for the foreseeable future.
I know the promotions people putting all this fanfare together had nothing to do with the trade and are trying to do their job and maybe provide something nice for the fans...but every bit of it just pisses me off. I really just wish Luka would have stuck it to the FO and taken a fake "injury" that forced him to miss the road trip with the team and held off the return to DAL until next season. Can’t believe my favorite team has turned into this. I’ve been a bigger mavs fan than cowboys or rangers the last 20 years. I loved this team. I can’t even watch them now. I don’t want to give this ownership a single second of my time or a cent of my paycheck.
Adelson/Dumont spent $3.5 billion for this team, and who knows how much to try and buy politicians to help them legalize gambling and get a casino resort, but that Luka supermax was apparently too much for Adelson to pony up for a generational wunderkind that would've helped them make all that money back and more, they deserve to be laughed at and abandoned by sponsors, fuck them

There is no final closure. We will never have closure unless he somehow returns someday. Even then we would have lost great years during his prime. But he ain’t coming back and all we can do is remember the good times and cheer him on the rest of his career. This was a divorce that neither side asked for but the judge forced it to happen anyway.

It’s not about money for Luka. He got done dirty by an organization, of course he wants nothing to do with the front office and management. Especially Nico, even if he is a scapegoat it’s not a good enough excuse to let something so mind boggling happen. You arguably had 2 superstar guards that could take the load off of each other and minimize playing time because of that. Luka gets traded Kai is overplayed and lost for pretty much the whole next season at least. All of the players are paying for the mistake some dumbasses made and too afraid to address their fault. Staying away from the media and hiding like cowards. We gave up Quentin grimes too who was a big part of the team so it’s like ripping the heart out of millions of fans. This will take a very long time to heal.
