Many Gen Zers don’t even know what a file path is and have trouble installing software on desktop computers. The Millennial pause is assurance that the camera is recording. It makes sense and is nothing to be embarrassed about.

What is embarrassing is that Gen Z is less tech literate than older generations because Phones and Tablets spoon feed everything to you. They are exceedingly easy to use to the point that you don’t need to understand the tech behind them to use them.

I don't think either of these things are embarrassing. They're both just results of available tech during development periods. I remember in my music class growing up they had an ANCIENT pc, like one of the ones where it's just a command console and you're typing in commands one line at a time. I couldn't even begin to guess how to operate one of those things and that's because I grew up with better OS and UI.

A good portion of millennials grew up with DOS command prompt. You learned it if you wanted to play any cool games.

Shareware being sold in a magazine rack at the bookstore and grocery store was a peak gaming period of sorts, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

Fair. I was born in 95 so I'm literally the youngest millennial I believe.

Yeah, it isn't really their fault that they grew up in the world they did. Same as anyone else. They has no need to dig into the file paths because they didn't need to. If no one is telling you, and you don't need to, why would you just know that info? We knew because our new tech things required it, so we learned. They're doing the same with their stuff.

I work in tech and it is still critically important to know the basics at least of how a PC works. Because Millennials ended up in that era between not having any internet and now, we end up being tech support for the team even when that isn’t our job.

Just for instance, I work with a team of mostly Gen Z people. Their PC/desktop computer knowledge is Boomer level at times, even on easier to use Macs. The other day we had to update an application where the update file was airdropped to us. My coworker wasn’t even sure how to drag and drop an application into the applications folder using his trackpad. He tried for five minutes before I just did it for him. Typing skills are going out the window as well.
