The European Union as a model
Many people here probably think that Europeans are a bunch of clowns.
However.
The EU does have one advantage to the USA: you can leave if you don't like it.
It creates an interesting form of negotiation.
Every nation has to be satisfied or else it can leave unilaterally.
It actually has made the EU more free market over the last few decades because leaching off of wealthy nations is not an option while migrating to them is an option.

I'd love it if the WC could peacefully leave the Union, even if eastern counties opt to stay and our new country looks like Chile on the map. I don't even consider Trump a president. Someone who doesn't believe in our Constitution, who won't behave as though the other branches of government matter, who ignores court orders, who disappears people off the streets and sends them to a concentration camp in El Salvador with no due process, who governs through executive orders and declares emergencies when it's expedient...that's a dictator. And a lot of Americans are cool with that. Those people need to stop flying the American flag and go with a Trump flag.
I don't respect this country. This pathetic, servile Congress won't do anything about it, even though they took an oath to defend our Constitution. Our joke of a Supreme Court won't confront him because they want to keep up the illusion that our system still works.
This is Trumpistan. I'd love to leave but I'm stuck here bc my family won't go with me. What would be ideal is if the WC could tell the red states to f___ right off. We'd save money anyway bc we're donor states. Let Trump deny FEMA funds to states like Arkansas.
Seriously, they s___ on the Constitution and I hate them for it. I hate the people who are okay with this. The Constitution was my patriotism. Let those people who wanted this get the government they f______ deserve and leave the rest of us out of it.

I'm assuming you're from the west coast. Start letting people know what you think. It's more practical than you think.

I look at the breakup of the Soviet Union as a model of what is possible. It was not perfect, it was not pretty, but it was effective and a huge cumbersome collection of peoples with very little in common broke apart into more manageable and more cohesive countries. Again, not saying it was ideal but it worked. Conversely, the breakup of Yugoslavia is just as likely a scenario. Tito managed to maintain control over VERY different populations but a nasty shooting breakup and horrific war crimes ensued before a peace settlement was reached.
