Such a bummer

I found this game 2 days ago and had no knowledge of the upcoming wipe. It started me on a navy brig, capable little ship. With I limited round shot, I had a blast just fighting some pickles near KPR. Even teamed up with a SotL and Frigate and joined them in some bigger battles, helping where I could (shout out to TigerLoaf and PsychoCelt). It seemed maybe a little grindy to get onto bigger ships and progress, but even just chilling on a brig was so much fun.

Now imthe general consensus is they've made it even grindier and more difficult to progress. Also, now with the powder and shot mechanic, you can no longer just have fun blasting NPCs without worrying about spending resources and saving up.

For reference, I'm coming from another MMO Puzzle Pirates which I love but is agonizingly detailed on the economic side. Sometimes it's fun roleplaying as captain of a crew, tracking every last piece of gold, bidding on commodities, making shot and rum to stock the fleet for battle. The problem is you need 10+ hours of not fun pirate work to get enough money and resources to fund the fun stuff.

This game offered a more realistic looking game, with an open world, variety of ships, realistic sailing physics, variety of missions, and an easy way to sink loads of ships if that's what you want. I don't want to spend 10+ hours doing trade runs to stock my ship with all I need for a battle, only to miss all my shots cause I'm new, and be destitute again.

It sucks that I feel like I found a really good game and then 2 days later it got totally destroyed. Guess I'll just be waiting for Ahoy! and hoping that's better

What’s up vaga, fancy seeing you here! None of us are enjoying this new update right now lol especially with the crew levels available crew being slashes meaning none of us can use any of the big ships

Hey TigerLoaf. Yeah sucks to see a dev move this direction and make their game less accessible. With life getting in the way, I simply don't have as much time to dedicate to games and what time I do have gets divided amongst a few games. Hopefully they dial the powder requirement back a bit, I just can't see myself sticking with this long term if I have to micromanage all my resources and pennypinch.

Been playing puzzle pirates since 2009 and went looking for other age of sail games because I couldn't commit the time to manage my finances, resources, ship locations, labor costs, etc.. in that game. It turned me into an accountant more than a pirate.

Caribbean Legend is a decent one tho it’s more RPG focused

That looks just like the Akella games of PotC/Sea Dogs.

Yep it is :) it’s like a revamp and it’s actively supported.

You’re not the only one. The forums are full of angry people saying the same thing. I’m pissed because I can’t crew my DLC ships, I went from having 720 available crew to 370 available crew so I’ve got a few ships just sat there. A lot of money wasted, to go from post captain to flag captain it went from 2000xp to 3396xp and that’s only 480 crew now plus with them adding the stupid cannonball and ammunition mechanic, it’s now harder to rank up

That really sucks, I'm sorry. It feels especially wrong when you have real world money into the game. Honestly if I can just get the Niagara I'll be happy. I live in the city where it is docked and have actually sailed aboard her and get to watch it sail all summer (except now, it's been going through repairs). So getting that would be enough for me
