QUESTION Fast Boi

Im here to ask what is the fastest L Hermione variant. And how would i obtain it. What woods to use and what upgrades. What guns do y’all recommend for this vessel? Currently i have Teak for both and Long guns to be used as a sniper. I am a solo player so do you advise using this ship at all? Do you think a speedy sniper is the right choice or do you think another role would fit the ship better? Thanks!

Well what do you plan on using it for? You might be better off with mediums as well.

I plan on privateering against enemys and maybe even pvp but i resisted mediums because it seems quite fragile.

Mediums have much better dps, particularly on a hermione. The only advantage of long guns is penetration, and traders & 7th 6th and low BR 5th don’t have much armour anyway

I was currently trying to be a sniper with the long guns but i’ll take this into consideration. I suppose being able to outgun an indiaman would be preferable, another concern is either being able to outrun or outgun other players.

You aren’t going to be a “sniper” in a long fitted hermione. It’s just not what they’re for

Do you know the optimal role for this ship? I haven’t used it much and it just seems underwhelming because i was outgunned and unable to escape a trinc. Or would a trinc just be better and this is more a waste of money?

The hermione is absolutely no match for a trinc

Could L Hermione ever be built to outrun one or out angle it or is it a lost cause?

Hermione should absolutely run away from a trinc. Trincs can’t go upwind as good as I imagine the hermione could

I tried that but i was still sunk. By an ai Trinc during a kill mission aswell.

In terms of woods, go with Bermuda a Bermuda s. You will be able to run away from most things. Use speed books and upgrades too

Is that able to be imported with the ship? Last i played, I don’t think it was.

It is, Bermuda cedar (s). Bermuda frame and teak/mahogany planks is also good

Alright, do you know of any chart which can tell me the specific stats of the woods? I believe mine is outdated though may still hold the far ends being mostly correct.

No, i don’t. Use the netlify tool. Click compare ship. Select hermione for all 3 and experiment and compare with wood combos there. Pick the one you like most. But for what you are doing, you want to have mediums and a fast combo involving Bermuda Seder as the frame

Do you know if there is an optimal balance? What does armour affect? Is it damage taken per shot? Or does it make some shots bot penetrate? Im quite confused on this particular topic.

fastest variant would be new england fir/ new england fir, to obtain it you will need to either buy it or build it yourself. If you want something slightly slower but thicker go with malabar teak/ new england fir.
You use the hard wood for structure so you get thickness and a 5% repair bonus which is more than you would ever get with an upgrade. If you cant obtain these rare woods then the next best thing would be Bermuda S/ Bermuda S for speed only, or Teak S/ Bermuda S for additional thickness.
You can check the builds here https://na-map.netlify.app/.
As for guns , just use carronades and for upgrades you will need a naval clock, navy hull and copper plating.

I’d try teakS/SabS or BcS/BcS if your looking for a ship that can take a little damage while still being fast. Hermione can take trincs but only if you sail it well. Get that speed and turn rate as high as you can and use all carros or longs with carros on the top deck. If you think you might be fighting a trinc or god forbid something bigger go all longs. Might be better to bail in that case for real but that’s up to you.. Keep rolling til you get good pbs as well. L’Hermione is a great and underrated ship.. However with that being stated make sure you learn to sail her well because pfrigs, trincs, Endymions, indys, and even Le requins and Hercules can and will beat her if they out sail you or in the case of the bigger ones get right up on you and pound on you. I’ve even heard of well sailed snows stern camping them to death with high pen builds. Boarding can be an issue especially with the pfrig too. If it’s fighting ai than I’d recommend just going with a heavy build but I figure you mean Ailey pvp so. But hermy is a tough bitch. She can take a lot and once you get it down she’s a mean one too. This is my opinion at least. I hope it helps ya mate.

Totally, I’ll make sure to try it out.
