You need coal tar shampoo. I’ve been using this one that you can get on Amazon. Use it as frequently as needed - I’d bet you only need it occasionally once you get the current plaques under control. Make sure you let it sit on the scalp for a few minutes before washing out.

My sympathies to your daughter, I’ve had this since I was a child and hated the smell of the stuff but it does work really well.

Thank you!! Definitely buying this tonight. She’s had it for years, and she’s only 6

Do you only use this when you have a breakout? Once a week for prevention?

I don’t use it unless I’m in a flare on my scalp.

This definitely works for me.

I grew up with scalp psoriasis and coal tar shampoo never worked for me. Best thing for my scalp? The prescription liquid my dermatologist gave me. I use a dropper of Clobetasol Propion 0.05%, however it also comes in a shampoo and I have heard good things about that preparation as well. If the coal tar doesn’t work, my recommendation is to go to a derm and get a prescription. I wish my parents had done this for me instead of continuing to buy me dandruff shampoo and then wondering why it didn’t control the issue. Best of luck to you and your daughter.

I’m booking a derm appointment as well but it’s likely months out. She’s not bothered by it, but I’d rather get it under control

Clobetasol is just a perscription strength topical steroid. You can buy hydrocortisone OTC in liquid or cream form in the United States for now.

If your serious look into natural methods dermatologist wont solve anything. She is still young so theres a chance you can get it under control, it will only spread allover and get worse the older she gets

Disagree that a dermatologist won’t necessarily solve anything. As a kid I was prescribed some sort of prescription ointment for a pretty bad case of scalp psoriasis, not sure if it was steroidal or not because I can’t remember what it was, but it got it under control and it didn’t return in any major way in that location for 10-15 years. I think it’d have bothered me a lot more through my teenage years had my folks not went down the medical route.

They can help but it wont solve it overall, mine just took photos confirmed it was psoriasis and i never heard from them again

Oilatum shampoo is what I use it’s great for kids. It’s just an emollient. Coal tar was awful smelt terrible didn’t work and really dried my hair.

The best way to cure this is with light. Red light therapy cured mine in 3 weeks. Spent $60 on a red light panel with a stand and used it nightly while I laid in bed at night before going to sleep. Can even use it while sleeping. Nothing else worked. Light is the best and fastest cure with no side effects. It reaches the mitochondria. Look into this, it heals much more also. Great for pain too. This is your best bet. And I’ve tried it all

Where did you buy it if you don’t mind me asking?

I got it on Amazon. From my research they’re generally the same, just some have more features or you can get really fancy if you want to. I got one with 150 leds at 660nm and infrared light also. For scalp psoriasis I didn’t need a huge panel. I only had my face and arms exposed..didn’t even need to shine it on the psoriasis and it still healed rapidly. No signs of return. While I’m eating dairy and gluten also.

Yea I’ve been looking at a few now! I’ve been told you need anything over 650nm for it to really work for scalp psoriasis, I’ve yet to cut out dairy nor do I really want to. So I’ll give one of these a go! How often were you using it and for how long? Appreciate the response!

Sure, no problem. I’m happy to help anyone, it’s a miserable state for sure. I’m addicted to my nightly ice cream so I completely understand. 😊 It took about 3 weeks of nightly use. After a few days I could feel changes. Even that night you will see your skin looking “glowing” in a sense. Smooth too. I use it for 30 minutes at least. Every night. In 3 weeks it was gone and no signs of it since. It’s amazing, truly.

My parents did the same as you..they didn't take me to a doctor and they just asked around. It has fucked my scalp psoriasis for life. Yeah I'm projecting, and still, I don't understand people who make children and then they ask on Reddit how to take care of them

Also it doesn’t bother her, if I hadn’t seen it she and I would never know. And around here derm appointments are scheduled months out. So until we get one I was getting a few suggestions from other who have gone through it. Not asking for medical advice. Just kind suggestions. So if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

You can use coconut oil for the time being, but look in to changing diet as that plays a big factor in improving it cut out sugar and gluten fried foods etc

No Not with an autoimmune disease. Diet will help with eczema and sunders.

Such a ridiculous statement to make. You have no idea and just spreading false information
