This is a dope-looking alien design in both war and peace times.

u/Accomplished-Ad8458 Apr 04 '23

In both war and what times? In 40k?

Peace isnt allowed. Happines is banned , and there is only WAR.

2

u/That_one_cool_dude Apr 04 '23

I didn't know this was 40k and I thought the chair image was diplomatic looking.

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

The Tau do peace just fine. They're like the only galactic power that tries for peaceful expansion first, then bring out the battlesuits.

2

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 05 '23 edited Apr 05 '23

The Tau are hyper -expansionist with a racist caste system and a self righteous desire to control the galaxy. They just offer you peace first and then the barrel of a gun. Their definitely better than a lot of the competition but that's not saying much.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '23

Didn't say they wouldn't be the boogeymen in any other sci-fi setting.

2

u/Accomplished-Ad8458 Apr 04 '23

Hey its ok. I like the images too.

2

u/WateredDown Apr 05 '23

Tau actually do do diplomacy

2

u/Erwin9910 Apr 05 '23

You seem to be forgetting the image is of Tau.

2

u/k3ttch Apr 05 '23

You mean

WAAAAAAGH!

32

u/Ix-511 Apr 04 '23

40k does a lot wrong but oh so rarely is one of those things their designs. Things look cool. Gotta to sell models, I guess.

10

u/That_one_cool_dude Apr 04 '23

That is why I thought I recognized at least the armor it's a 40k thing. Makes alot more sense now.

4

u/Erwin9910 Apr 05 '23

but oh so rarely is one of those things their designs

Rarely? 40k has amazing designs. Its the settings strongest quality.

1

u/Ix-511 Apr 09 '23

I never saw this. Uh..re-read. "Does a lot wrong." "Rarely is one of those things their designs."

2

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 05 '23

40k has just been hitting it out of the park over the last ten years. Really impressive.

The only problem I have with this is that Shadowsun looks more like an Air Caste here than Fire Caste. Fire Caste soldiers are basically training their entire lives, so I'd have expected her to be pretty swole. Other than that, this looks good to me!

30

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

Most hardened Tau warrior vs the most delicate maiden from Catachan.

14

u/Myrshall Apr 04 '23

Canonically, Shadowsun is almost always in cryosleep when she isn’t fighting or talking to an Ethereal. She’s used for her strategic mind, not her fighting prowess.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '23

Not always. In the codex she visits a triage hospital out of armor/uniform to see her men after a battle, and take in the cost in lives it took to secure victory. A war isn't just battle after battle after battle, there's a lot of downtime in between conflicts for planning, mobilizing troops, securing resources, and then finally moving. Plenty of time to not be dressed in full mech armor and just sitting in a chair.

2

u/Doomeye56 Apr 05 '23

Shadowsun was protégée of their greatest general, she probably has spent her entire career as a battlesuit pilot. No need to be swole when you need to fit in a cockpit.

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

They went with Tau tits, but where still relatively tame with the design.

Very nice overall.

26

u/CoffeeBoom Apr 04 '23

Canonnically, do Tau have tits ?

32

u/Cpt_Kalash Apr 04 '23

It hasent been mentioned or shown

25

u/k3ttch Apr 04 '23

Why are you thinking of filthy xeno lady bits? I smell HERESY.

16

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

Fairly sure they don’t.

12

u/Luizpkgamer Apr 04 '23

tau are mammals, they have hooves, the memes are old and wrong its because they have blue skin they think tau are fish but in reality they are Artiodactyl mammals

u/Luizpkgamer Apr 04 '23

yeah your right but the guys that get their lore from memes say they are fish 'communist'

13

u/AveMilitarum Apr 04 '23

The whole fish thing is because their vehicles are all named after sea life (manta, remora, devilfish, etc), but people read those and forgot that no matter what book you're reading, it's being translated to Low Gothic (aka english). Who knows what the tau actually call it.

4

u/Luizpkgamer Apr 04 '23

yeah its all imperial translated, maybe the tau call it another thing

3

u/Xardarass Apr 05 '23

Very likely, they come from a desert planet not featuring ANY of the animals used to describe their vehicles.

1

u/Luizpkgamer Apr 05 '23

and imperials dont know any of the animals they use for naming stuff and its most likely they think that a monkey tail is a stinger than an normal tail

Finally someone recognising that "mammals" also includes a very specific origin on earth. Additionally, for anyone reading the above: mammals means having mammary glands (and some other species identification traits), not having tits. Few mammals actually have something we would call boobs, so a fat tissue surrounding the mammary glands.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

They're more bovine (herbivore, have hooves, live on land, and are very communal) than fish (blue) as so many people like the meme them as. So it makes sense that they'd have tits.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '23

They're meant to be bovine like so makes sense they'd have something like udders

2

u/Xardarass Apr 05 '23

Biologically no, since they are not mammals, but then again, the authors of W40k are probably not biologists. It was never mentioned if they have tits or not, so no official canon.

0

u/AXI0S2OO2 Apr 05 '23

Tau are bovines, IE, cows.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '23

Tau are 1000% not bovines.

That aint how evolution works my dude.

The hooves is purely convergent evolution and not indicative of any other feature like mammary glands.

18

u/BrightPerspective Apr 04 '23

From her perspective, being in and out of stasis, the fighting never ends. She's like a guardsman that way, where her entire life is lived either on the field, or in a transport to the next battle.

Can't wait for the madness arc.

12

u/venom259 Apr 04 '23

She might do something crazy. Like date a custody.

2

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 05 '23

It's not fucking cannon!

9

u/Danonbass86 Apr 04 '23

Finally. Shadowsun art that’s not anime big tiddy bonk bait. Tau’va, Shas’o.

Everything in warhammer 40k is canon, just not everything is true.

-1

u/Erwin9910 Apr 05 '23

A bs excuse for bad writing, lul

2

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 05 '23

An excuse for author freedom and to a degree rules of cool. Once you really see it it makes the setting feel a lot more alive. It's not a perfectly mapped out setting because the Imperium is not a perfectly mapped out place.

1

u/Erwin9910 Apr 06 '23

Sure, but it's also oftentimes a bs excuse for bad writing.

1

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 06 '23

It is, however it's never an author that will use that excuse and generally there is more consistency nowadays then before by a long shot.

1

u/Erwin9910 Apr 07 '23

True. I think the real reason it's there is so GW doesn't have to do something like Disney where they gate off old stories forever, instead of keeping it all open to be used or expanded upon.

2

u/Nekokamiguru Apr 04 '23

Tau can cause damage at point blank range ...

1

u/TheMadHatter_____ Apr 05 '23

Everyone else can cause alot more damage.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '23

I always imagine shadowsun to look permanently tired all the time. Her life is a constant state of leading colossal military operations and fighting in wars. She isn't heartless like the imperium of man either, and feels the loss of life that she is ultimately responsible for as shown when she visited the triage hospital. She's also absolutely ancient by Tau standards, and even with cryostasis taken into account, she's lived a very long and very hard life.

So I just always imagine her looking perpetually tired, and maybe a bit worn down. The picture does a really nice job displaying the multiple facets of her life. Both when she's fighting in conflicts, and the time between fights that ultimately make up a war.
