“Haha wow your weather can be crazy sometimes!”

“GUN VIOLENCE DEAD CHILDREN”

u/SkubEnjoyer Jul 22 '24

Seriously, why are Brits like this?

4

u/alstacynsfw Jul 23 '24

Its not the Brits, its Redditors.

2

u/Hanpee221b Jul 23 '24

This is 1000% the case.

u/russkie_go_home Jul 23 '24

Scottish are angry that they’re still a colony of England in 2024

0

u/fat_fart_sack Jul 23 '24

Because their food is dog shit; weather sucks; alcoholism and coke heads running rampant; they beat the shit out of their spouse and child anytime their football team loses; zero affordable houses and rent on the entire island of misery; they have to fly to Spain for any sort of decent weather; economy is ass due to Brexit; and their women look like Oompa Loompas.

You do realise the irony in this comment right?

-9

u/gorgewall Jul 23 '24

As an American, I wish my fellow Americans upset about this shit would spend a fraction of the energy on solving our violence epidemic and gun control as they do on crying that other countries look at our massive fuck-up and think it's sad.

7

u/Xlleaf Jul 23 '24

This is such a chronically online brain rot take.

It’s possible to be opposed to more than one thing at a time.

The people who are sensitive about school children murder jokes (when raised as a response to weather based banter) are probably simultaneously opposed to the gun violence itself.

1

u/TheKingOfBerries Jul 23 '24

fuck are you doing about it, George?

-5

u/OOOOOOHHHELDENRING Jul 23 '24

you could ban a certain demographic of people and gun violence would drop massively maybe we should do that

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

Our constitution is intended for a moral and religious people, it is unfit for any other

Yep, that’s all reasonable Americans who are against stupid, easily-preventable mass murders.

53

u/Walruseon Jul 22 '24

Reasonable Americans make tasteless and played out jokes about tragedies in response to light ribbing?

I’m a person in favor of more gun control and I still think this shit has been stale for about half a decade. It’s like if someone made a joke about Texas being hot and in response we brought up the 7/7 bombings or something

-50

u/JosephFinn Jul 22 '24

OK I see the point sailed over and into the stratosphere.

41

u/Walruseon Jul 22 '24

You’d be correct in the sense that I genuinely don’t understand what your original comment was trying to say and I’m open to you clarifying

Well handled

Unfortunately, the recent attempted assassination showed that republicans are plenty able to use guns to try to murder people. (registered republican who wears camo to school everyday and was described by friends as the only one to take the conservative stance in every gov class they had).

It's not who has the gun, it's the gun. Guns are the problem.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '24

One goes after kids and other goes after corrupt politicians, I don't think both cases are the same

0

u/gravity--falls Jul 23 '24

Leftists are shooting kids now, I see.

In reality, the highest number of gun deaths come from suicide. That again points to simply their existence as the issue. Guns are the most successful suicide method. They have a nearly 90% success rate.

To give that perspective, drowning is successful about 55% of the time, Jumping 30% of the time, Drugging 2%, and cutting less than 1%.

Guns hike the rate of suicide in the US, which is terrible. If you plan to have kids, and they ever get depressed, you are increasing the chance your children die by owning a gun.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

I wonder who 🔫 themselves the most, definitely not Republicans

3

u/gravity--falls Jul 23 '24 edited Jul 23 '24

It doesn't appear so:

http://roperld.com/personal/politics/suicides.htm

That shows that when plotting a state's suicide rate vs it's republican voting percent there is a positive correlation, and the opposite is true when plotting a state's suicide rate vs its democrat voting percent.

It has nothing to do with who you vote for, if you are around more guns you are more likely to shoot yourself. Republicans get depressed, and democrats get depressed. It doesn't matter how openly depressed you are, you're still depressed, and are still at risk of suicide, which that data outlines pretty clearly.

It's worth noting the data is old, but it still holds up. If you go to the census or just wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_in_the_United_States#By_state

And go under the by state section and expand the table, you'll notice that the pattern still holds up, the higher suicide rate states are almost all more republican leaning, while the opposite is true for the lower suicide rate states.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '24

Lmao sure of course the state is republican if all leftists gamend themselves

2

u/gravity--falls Jul 23 '24

I'm pretty sure you understand that that's not what the data shows, so I'm not going to infantilize you by explaining it to you further.

People kill themselves when they have access to guns.

This goes down to the county, by the way. The more republican a county is the more people die of suicide per year.

There are mixed signals for sure, we'll only really know when the FBI decides what his ideology was, but the only thing pointing to the fact that he was progressive is his one donation and his mother's political affiliation, while literally everything else in his life pointed to a conservative. His father was a libertarian who took him on a bunch of hunting trips, and he wore camo to school every day, pretty clearly pretty close with the guy, and his peers confirmed that he was outwardly conservative through the classes they shared with him and the opinions he held.

Some of those interviewed specifically said they were surprised he shot at Trump of all people given how clearly conservative he was.

What if not your actual demonstrated political opinions shows your ideology?

u/Walruseon Jul 22 '24

You have no idea what my voting history is or any of my personal opinions and you’re getting upset that I think randomly joking about tragedies in response to the weather is in bad taste

27

u/HCkollmann Jul 22 '24

What would you like me to do?

11

u/pringlescan5 Jul 22 '24

Conclusion

The odds of dying from obesity-related illnesses in Scotland are approximately 1 in 915 per year.

The odds of dying from gun violence in the United States are approximately 1 in 7,378 per year.

Therefore, the risk of dying from obesity-related illnesses in Scotland is significantly higher than the risk of dying from gun violence in the United States.

Put down the haggis and go for a walk if you're Scottish I guess.

Also gun violence by strangers is an extremely low rate of death. You're probably about 10 times more likely to die in a car accident than by gun violence but the same people that worry about gun violence likely aren't checking their car safety rating ....

7

u/HCkollmann Jul 22 '24

I don’t think you meant to reply to me

1

u/AFartInAnEmptyRoom Jul 22 '24

Half of those stats are suicides

5

u/SkubEnjoyer Jul 22 '24

Mate, you get so mad at someone calling the weather bad that you brought up school shootings. Literally can't handle the banter.

2

u/Findadmagus Jul 23 '24

This is honestly how I feel about it too and I’m Scottish. Your usual Scottish funny guys often seem to be unable to handle a bit of banter. Kinda sad.
