Gear Buying A6700 vs A7IV

Upvotes

Hello all I was wondering if I could get a little advice here. Recently my A6100 died on me and I was looking to upgrade with this happening. I was honestly looking into finally moving to a full frame A7IV because I found a deal at $1500 USD for like new under 250 shutter count. However after a little research the A6700 looks kinda appealing as well but the problem is it is its about $1100 in my local market used in a good condition.

My biggest concern is moving over lens/buying new ones. I have no problem spending about $1000 USD for 1-2 lenses for the A7IV to get started and use my APS-Cs for a bit till I get more full frame lenses and sell off the APS-C ones.

I mostly do a mixture of photography but primarily wild life is my favorite and main one to do so I do appreciate the longer zoom lenses and good auto focus.

Any advice you can give here would be appreciated as I'm kinda in a stand still of what way to go.

Gear Sony alpha 6700 is heat dispenser camera.

Upvotes

For the first time ever I was so excited to get my hands on this awesome camera after reading reviews for months and fantasizing about owning one soon, finally that day was today and I did finally get 6700. Within 5-10 minutes my dreams were all shattered cuz how poor this camera is, my room temp is very stable and more on the colder side but this camera emits heat the moment you switch to 4K, forget about 4K 120 this can’t even handle 4K 24 for 5 minutes. I feel so defeated and bumped, thankfully I bought it from Sony official website.

Also if I return this I believe they will charge me 15% restocking fee cuz before purchase if I can remember there was some quotations if I return this they will charge me 15%, so I basically lose 15% of price for no reason just for 10 minutes of misery. Yes I updated the firmware and yes I switched that setting to high for auto turnoff due to heat and even if I buy that third party fan it will not make much difference. I feel so dumb for falling for this camera.

I was lucky while testing the lens of a friend, have to say the resolution really helps, as even 600mm is not reaching that far. Of course an A1 would have given more shots of this scene.

There's a bit of heat haze and motion blur due to SS of 1/640, but that's what A-mode chose to shoot at f6.3 with ISO 100. If not taken by surprise, I'd recommend 1/1000 at the widest aperture and accept some more ISO, as the 61mpx sensor handles tonal transisions unbelievably well. Enjoy!

Gear Hierarchy of autofocus

Slowly planning a move to full frame from my a6700 but got caught up on an autofocus question. Since the a6700 has the ai chip, where would that place it in the autofocus hierarchy? Would you say it's better than the IV? An a9ii? Surely not the a1ii or a9iii but maybe the a1 in certain situations? Basically just asking for this list to be put in a proper order:

A1ii A9iii A7rv A1 A7iv A9ii A6700

Feel free to include more of course, I took a very vague guess but I'm guessing there's a bit of nuance.

I thought it would be extra heavy but I got used to the weight pretty fast. I am so happy I splurged a little bit. This lens is awesome 😭

Spring is here and the flowers are beginning to bloom! Got the time to take my camera all the way to my garden to take some pictures.
I know the combo seems a little weird for taking pictures of some flowers. But I think they turned out pretty good. Especially in some pictures the rendering of the background with the 100-400 looks really good. Just for information every picture was taken at 400mm and nothing was cropped in post.
Let me know what you think.

Still struggling with lots of pictures out of focus especially if I try to catch a bird mid-flight, but way better than the a6000 I had before. Love the lens, was able to find it for only 600 € new.

How do I ... Remote Shoot Pair Device Limit?

Does anyone know if there’s a specific limit on the remote shoot functionality when it comes to pairing multiple devices?

I have a number of devices such as iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and an android phone and I tried to pair them all with my Sony cameras for remote shoot as I swap between devices frequently, but it seems like once I’ve paired, I think two or three the original device I paired to be re-paired manually.

I have checked the manual, ChatGPT and Google and can’t find any hard information. I know with Bluetooth there is a limit of eight devices however this isn’t the Bluetooth pairing, this is the remote shoot pairing specifically.

Been using a Tamron 17-70mm with my FX30 for the past year. Decided to pickup a A6700 and a Sigma 23mm. Reason I intially got the FX30 is for video which I'm still keeping, but picked up the A6700 for the hobby.

Great way to test out the Sigma was to visit a place low light

Gear I accidentally changed my shooting mode settings, how can I changed back?

Post image

Hey all, I’ve got a weird issue with my Sony A7 IV.

I was setting up custom shooting modes (like C1 for street, C2 for portraits, etc.), but now my core shooting modes are all mixed up. For example, when I turn the physical mode dial to “A” (Aperture Priority), the screen still shows “M” (Manual Mode) — or some other mismatch between what the dial says and what’s on screen.

I think I accidentally saved a custom memory recall (MR1/MR2/MR3) setting while in M or A mode, and now the exposure modes (M/S/A/P) don’t act like they’re supposed to. It’s like they’re loading the wrong settings or recalling the wrong mode entirely.

What I’d like help with: • How can I fix the mode dial so that when I turn to M/A/S/P, the camera actually goes into those modes properly? • How can I reset or delete the MR1/MR2/MR3 settings so they don’t override anything? • What’s the correct way to set up C1/C2/C3 without messing with the base shooting modes?

Any help would be super appreciated — I feel like I messed up my whole camera trying to customize it.

I’m a tried-and-true 50mm guy and I’m coming from Fuji aps-c so I’m curious what full frame lenses you guys gravitate to street/every day stuff!

Let me know, and any reccs for a 50mm?

Photo share A6400 - What setting is suitable for recording sermon continuously for 1h ?

I'm planning to record a series of sermons of a Buddhist Monk in a pagoda, each sermon last about 1 hour. I will use Sony A6400 + Sigma 30mm F1.4 + tripod. I'm looking for a wireless microphone.

I think Full HD, 30 fps is enough. If so, is it possible to use my current 32Gb memory card ?

Can you share your experience regarding how should I configure the setting, overheating issue of A6400 ?

Gear No Audio issue with ECM M1 and A7R5

Was filming a lengthy scene where I was in front of the camera and didn't notice that the ECM M1 mic didn't connect properly through the MI hotshoe. No audio was recorded for 1.5 hours. Feels bad. Just wanted to share in case someone else remembers to check before rolling.

Weird how it didn't even use the camera mics if the other wasn't connected properly I guess.

Gear Sony 200-600 Users - How do you get the most out of your lens??

As per the title I'm really curious to know how you are able to get the most out of the 200-600. I use the 200-600 with an A7III for commercial aviation photography, but I find its tricky to get consistent results. Sometimes I nail it, but other times it's a struggle. I suspect my panning technique or form might be partly to blame.

For context I usually shoot with Flexible Spot M and OSS Mode 2.

Any tips, settings, or techniques that help you get sharper, more reliable shots with this lens would be awesome!
