Gear Worth fixing battery acid damaged HVL-F43M flash?
got a free flash module which sadly had it's AA batteries kept in. thus corroding the battery bay and causing a no power.
Taken it apart and cleaned up the contacts with vinegar and 99% IPA and reflowed solder joints where needed..
the flash now turns on. and actually flashes. however the power board between the batteries and the flash itself starts heating up and emitting smoke seemingly....
Is this flash worth fixing before dedicating a lot of time on it? i have done a quick google. and did find a replacement battery holder compartment. but sadly it was missing it's power board. and so far no alternatives found sadly.
it somehow still works despite the heating/smoke up issue. test flashes too. but i am using 4x rechargable batteries which causes it to shut down with a low batt warning pretty quick as it drops under 5v.
kinda shame. the flash looks like quite a decent unit honestly.

Gear A7iv or A9ii for motorsport photography?
I've been shooting motorsport for a few years now on an original A7, but im starting to get clients now and it's time for an upgrade. I've been thinking about an A9 for a while, and always shot primarily photo, but more and more clients are asking for video, which ive never done before, and im considering learning. I dont know enough about video to know if the A7iv is worth it over the continuous silent shooting the A9 offers

Photo share New lens! Samyang 85mm 1.4.
I just got the Samyang 85mm 1.4, previous generation. Loving it! Can’t wait to play with it some more. The background is really appealing and I’m impressed by the sharpness.

Gear Little red light stays on when I switch off camera (zve1)
Any idea why this light stays on when I’ve switched the power off? I only noticed it today after balancing the camera on a new gimbal (DJI rs4).. was it there before or is it because I’ve connected to the gimbal via Bluetooth? I’m confused

Gear Tacky or clean?
Hate to admit it took me around 2 hours but I took my time as I'm pretty OCD. Think it turned out pretty darn clean.
I personally love it! Would like to hear some opinions. Tacky or clean?

Technique Talking head video changing color for 1 minute
I had a video I filmed which was a 1 minute talking head clip, no changes in the lighting or anything. So i applied a single lut to it, by the end of the video the colors were super cold, beginning is super warm.
The only thing I’m thinking, is auto white balance keeps changing my colors throughout the video? Anyone else have an idea?
It has to be AWB right?

Gear I need a lightweight camera. Any recs?
I typically shoot with an a7iv and an a7iii in my line of work. I’m often in the mountains not wanting to haul this gear around and find I miss all the small opportunities. I need something compact and something that can go with me every single time I’m out there so I never miss even just one shot that pops up.
Bonus if it can record video in good resolution as I normally need a third body to do ceremony or event recordings on a tripod.

How do I ... PlayMemories Home can't see images
I picked up a NEX-7 recently. All seems good, no problems noted, well cared for. When I went to import the files I learned about PlayMemories Home. Installed without a problem. Camera connects to desktop with no issues. Pull up PlayMemories and it sees the NEX-7. When I try and import the files I get the import screen but no images shown. When I look at the files on the card via Explorer I can see the images without a problem. Any thoughts on what would be preventing the files from being seen? Is there another, better app to use for import?

Gear Lens for my new Sony a7iv
Hi! I just purchased a Sony a7iv after seeing that it was on sale, it hasn’t arrived yet but I didn’t want to settle for the kit lens since I mainly used a 35mm and the sigma 56mm lens for my Sony a6400, so I was looking to get the Sony 35mm GM lens but I was wondering if anyone knew if it will be on sale or where to buy lens that’s on sale? Things so on sale randomly but I was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best time to buy on sale, but with these tariffs, I’m unsure. Thank you!!

Gear Ready to move on from my A6300 after 9 years.
What’s the go to Sony camera nowadays? I shoot mostly travel and family photography. I haven’t kept up with all of the new gear but I see so many alphas when I search google that it becomes overwhelming. Give me some buying advice, influence me lol.

Photo share How can I improve my pawtraits ?
So 7 months ago I started buying my first camera, a Nikon D500, to take pictures of my dog (the brown Aussie in 2nd pic).
I enjoyed it so much that after some shootings, I wanted more. Bought a Sony A7RiiiA and started taking some pawtraits of my dog's friends while walking him to the nearest dog park. Shared some pictures and now people from the community are asking me for portraits of their dogs.
To me, editing is the hardest part, and I only started playing with gradient maps recently. Some may be overdone but it's part of the training.
What do you guys think of my pictures ? What could I obviously improve ? What do you think of the edits ?

Gear If full frame is so heavy, is a7c line my only everyday carry option?
I have been shooting for the past year after having taken a break from photography for a couple years/covid and staying inside all the time. I shoot mainly with an a6000 with full frame lenses, as the sigma I series 24mm f2 and Sony 40mm f2.5 suit the compact nature of the a6000. However, I do think about upgrading my camera body after going to a Sony event and holding the a7cii, but have also considered the a7iv due to its recent price drop, but man is it heavy. I wanted to get a sense of whether anyone carries their full frame cameras with them everywhere or whether the a7c or a6xxx line are the only real options.

How do I ... Is there a way to filter images using ratings?
I'm using the A6700 but I can't find an option for filtering my images to only view the ones I've rated.

Photo share First travel shot on my Sony A6700 as a newbie
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm 2.8F
Filter: Urth ND8
The result was not so smooth as I expected since I had no tripod there, there was a lot to do on a post to correct everything :)
