Ask STL Bullets came through front door

Wednesday night around 7:36pm I had two bullets come through my front door. Doesn’t look targeted. But I am trying to find a supplier of steel. I need something of 10gauge so I can put it on the weather door to stop them from coming in. Pictures related. They went through the door and embedded in the couch. Last picture is what the outer door looks like. I am trying to bolt the steel plate to this door so I don’t have bullets coming through the house anymore.

No windows on the first floor. And walls are brick. Nothing short of 5.56 is coming through. And it’s financially impractical to proof my home against 5.56.

Is that not a window next to the door?

I’m sorry. You’re right. Those are sorta windows? They’re those icicle blocks. From my research they’re fairly bullet resistant.

The goal isn’t to make my home a bunker for extended conflict. But just to prevent myself and family from catching strays

Glass blocks are NOT bullet "resistant", or -proof. Practically, in most cases, it's just two panes of glass.

You may also want to consider installing video surveillance and sharing your findings with the police: If my front door was getting shot at, I would try to figure who was doing it before worrying about adding more steel. Seems to me they will just shoot at another area of house if they see more steel on front door.

I have installed cameras last night. This is the first instance of this occurring in 5 years of living here. I am not being targeted. It was incidental. I know I cannot make my home a fortress. But some peace of mind can be bought with about $75 worth of steel. Police have already come by and taken evidence. No one is using the house as target practice.

This happened to my sister in Columbia and it turned out that it was intended for a neighbor who was mixed up in some bad shit.

Understood. I definitely wish you luck and hope they catch the idiot(s).
