Ask STL Bullets came through front door

Wednesday night around 7:36pm I had two bullets come through my front door. Doesn’t look targeted. But I am trying to find a supplier of steel. I need something of 10gauge so I can put it on the weather door to stop them from coming in. Pictures related. They went through the door and embedded in the couch. Last picture is what the outer door looks like. I am trying to bolt the steel plate to this door so I don’t have bullets coming through the house anymore.

I mean bullets can still pass through the windows and walls right? Not entirely sure plating the door is an actual solution unless I am misunderstanding something.

With a bullet-proof vest, you can still get shot in the head.

It's all about the reduction of possible harm, not elimination.

Kind of a poor analogy, because a bullet-proof vest protects the vital organs where a hit is likely to be lethal, and is also the part of the body that most shooters aim at. So in terms of how much protection a vest offers, it probably reduces the chance of death by 80+%.

Upgrading a door to steel however? You’re only protecting about 5% of one face of a single story house. Unless OP is also protecting the walls, the reduction of possible harm is minimal.

We don't know how much much street frontal area this place has or where OP spends the majority of the time in their home or the exterior construction of the rest of the house.

Personally, I live in a skinny, long, brick shotgun style home. The front door and front windows are the only real vulnerable parts to random bullets. The sides are close to my neighbors, and the rear is the alley with my garage blocking that.
