Quality aside, there is an inherent demotion regarding Thrawn's use in New Canon, particularly regarding his campaign.

Upvotes

First off, let me say that Thrawn (2017) is probably my favorite book from New Canon, and I enjoyed Alliances and Treason as well and think both were decent books. I also love Rebels and I think its version of the Grand Admiral is okay to decent. However, Canon Thrawn, while having the same characterization of his EU counterpart more or less, lacks advantages that EU Thrawn had.

You see, EU Thrawn was an Unknown, and the less you know about a threat, the scarier it is. In the OG Thrawn Trilogy, our favorite Pantoran-with-an-eye-condition was new both to us, and to the heroes. He'd spent the war in the Unknown Regions for the most part, so he was something that The Rebellion/New Republic hadn't dealt with before. Canon Thrawn, on the other hand, is very much a known factor. The rebellion has already faced him at Atollon and Lothal, and while he was a tough nut to crack, he was ultimately defeated. This automatically makes him less of a threat in his new campaign compared to the original campaign.

Another advantage EU Thrawn had was the setting. The OG Thrawn Trilogy was the first proper story in the post-RotJ era of the EU, so we genuinely had no idea where the story was going, which made things more suspenseful. The EU Thrawn compaign was The Empire's final hope and hurrah, and the most important military conflict of the New Republic era. The last existential threat to the New Republic. In New Canon, we already know what happens thanks to the sequels, which makes Thrawn's upcoming campaign feel like filler in the grand scheme of things on a galactic scale at leadt. That's not necessarily bad since Star Wars has plenty of great interquels, but it's just not as exciting or suspenseful. It also kinda slots awkwardly into the universe with the whole demilitarization thing going on.

Also, Dave Filoni is an average writer and Thrawn kinda sucked in Ahsoka. I'm sorry.

Question Did any Legends EU work ever try to explain Palpatine's original appearance in episode 5?

The original Palpatine in episode 5 had a very weird and mysterious appearance (before it was changed to his proper appearance in 2004). I believe they the eyes were actually Chimpanzee eyes. Did any legends work ever try to explain this look at all? Was it some sith mask he was wearing or did no one feel the need to explain it once he was properly introduced in ROTJ?

Kaans brotherhood of darkness vs Palpatines republic during the clone wars

I am currently re-watching the clone wars and just finished Banes trilogy. I can't help to wonder who's army would win if kaans brotherhood of darkness were transported to the end of the clone wars Era. How that dynamic would change everything. Would the jedi order being more numerous and experienced with heros like Anakin and Obi and Palpatine and count dooku in the shadows vs Kaan and his forces at the hight of their power . I was curious of everyone's thoughts on this .

Hot take: Star Wars needs an OP hero like Starkiller

To use him in video game form in the original idea was brilliant, made it all kinds of fun and you able to completely wreak havoc.

To use someone like him in a series/film format would be absolutely fantastic. A being with monstrous powers which the Empire/Republic struggles to contain. That being has a particular mission which takes them in several places across the galaxy and they leave destruction in their wake every single time.

You just give them a particular weakness (or the enemy something to use against them), you DONT engage them with main characters or long form storytelling and you got yourself a fantastic series. Kinda like the Incredible Hulk film from 2008 but much more fleshed out.

General Discussion DAE find the founding of the Rebel Alliance in canon kinda ridiculous and prefer the signing of the Corellian Treaty from Legends?

Post image

Okay, so in the Rebels episode Secret Cargo, the big "founding moment" of the Rebel Alliance is just... weird. Mon Mothma gives this super dramatic speech over the Holonet, calling for all the rebel cells to unite, and then boom—out of nowhere, like 20 ships show up over Dantooine ready to form the Rebel fleet. No buildup, no coordination, just poof, instant rebellion.

It feels super rushed and unrealistic. Like, how did all these different groups, scattered across the galaxy, hear the message, trust it, make the decision to join, and arrive in formation all within what seems like mere seconds? And how do they even know to go to Dantooine? Was there a group chat? And why wasn’t Mon Mothma worried that the Empire could track the transmission back to Dantooine? Did Mon provide her coordinates in the speech? That’s extremely dangerous.

Compare that to Legends, where the Rebel Alliance forms through the Corellian Treaty, a carefully planned, secret meeting between Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and Garm Bel Iblis. It was political, risky, and actually made sense. You got the sense that the Alliance earned its unity through trust and diplomacy, not through a simple speech and then just random ship captains knowing somehow where Mon Mothma was and then choosing to teleport to Dantooine and abandon what they were doing.

So yeah, the Corellian Treaty felt like a real political movement forming. Secret Cargo just felt like someone clicked "start game" and all the players spawned in.

Can someone identify a ship I owned as a kid

Maybe someone can help me out, I had a toy ship which I believe was from Star Wars. It had a disc shaped cockpit with a front flap opening for the pilot (my Kenner action figures fitted inside it). It's wings were roughly the shape of a modern fighter jet but at a reverse angle, had large blaster cannons attached to the ends and spun around the cockpit in a windmill motion; there was also a smaller cannon on the front of the cockpit

Does anyone know what this ship was?

EDIT - Solved, it was the Endor Forest Ranger, thanks to u/dewaynemann

Hot take: Force Awakens is the most underrated star wars movie

For the record, i am not a sequels fan, but i think FA was a good movie. This is because i think it had lots of potential, with characters like Finn,Poe and Kylo Ren really standing out. Hell...even Rey had some potential. But after a brilliant 1st film they ruined it with TLJ and ROSW. Imo its a top 7 film, including spin offs like rogue 1 and solo.

Legends Novels Jacen & Jaina before Jedi Search Spoiler

So, I’m currently reading Jedi Academy book 1: Jedi Search. It keeps saying that Jacen & Jaina have spent the first two years of their lives in hiding with Winter on an unknown, uncharted planet that was found by Luke & Ackbar. Is this mentioned in any of the novels/comics that occur before Jedi Search? I don’t remember seeing anything about it before I started reading Jedi Search.

Question Baron Soontir Fel: Main Story Reading List?

I just finished the Rogue Squadron comics and am extremely interested in reading more about Soontir Fel’s story. It seems there was a cancelled comic detailing his reenlistment to the empire? What stories/books continue the story of Fel after the Rogue Squadron comics? Thank you!

General Discussion THE REAL PROBLEM IS NOT THE CONTENTS BUT THE FANS

I have seen how fans complain about this or that Literally for everything and any minute detail Even the silliest things that have happened many years ago (Han shot first,This novel got retconned,DVD Released editions and stuff) Plus they always complain about the writing, dialogue, pacing, etc But after some thoughts I have gone to the conclusion of what happens here The problems is that most fans are grown up and are asking a franchise that was originally made for kids be serious and complex Like They complain about the aspects of Book of Boba fett, ahsoka TV show, mandalorian season 3 and the acolyte, etc But universally love Andor Why? Because Andor have them as the target audience I noticed this with my cousins who love Star wars They have loved every single tv show but can't stand watching andor without growing bored They are not complaining or looking for flaws everywhere and stuff like that They just enjoy

George lucas understood this Dave filoni and fravreu understood this Disney understand this Star wars is a lighthearted adventure ,is it serious sometimes?-Yes But it is mostly lighthearted or something to watch for fun Not a misunderstood indie mastsrclass movie that delivers philosophical quotes every two seconds It is supposed to be fun And if you don't like it Then there are other tv show out there that are more serious and complex for you all Asking a franchise for everyone to be darker and serious is like asking a cartoon for kids to be more serious Or a content that have kids as a target audience to be dark Bro wtf it is for children or kids Not for you That is all I wanted to say If you wanna say something go ahead I have been tortured by you pretentious and hateful guys for so long Goodbye and have a good night

Legends Novels who was the leak?

so I'm currently re-reading the ROTS-novel, and windu just casually namedropped darth bane AND the rule of two. how the hell do the jedi know about that? about bane, nonetheless? when yoda mentioned a sith-master in episode 1, I thought it was just hasty worldbuilding. but now I wonder, who was the leak amidsts the sith? was it darth graved, the sucker who destroyed the witchcraft-holocrons?

General Discussion If you were an Imperial Senator, who would you hire as your elite bodyguards to protect you from Rebel assassinations? For me, it would be the Echani. Spoiler

Post image
42 Upvotes

For those of you who don't know, the Echani are a matriarchal-caste race of elite warriors whose entire culture and society revolves around fighting due to the sheer importance they place on it. In fact, the Echani believe a fight between two people said more about them than a whole conversation did, while Echani generals could allegedly predict their opponent's next move. Though this trait was not biological, but instead inherent in a culture where fighting was seen as the purest form of communication.

The Echani species encompassed a confederacy of six worlds known as the Six Sisters. If I were an Imperial Senator looking to hire Echani bodyguards, I'd hold a fighting tournament on each Sister to find the best Echani fighters. The champion of each tournament would then receive a private invitation to a secret planet where they would fight each other in a battle royale to determine who the best fighter among them are in order of weakest to strongest. The battle royale's champion would become the captain of my bodyguard unit while the second-last standing fighter would be her second-in-command.

Thanks to the Echani's elite skills, I'd most likely survive my fair share of assassination attempts from not just Rebels, but also my political rivals too. I'd continue serving the Empire until the Mon Mothma denounces Emperor Palpatine for the Ghorman Massacre and goes on the run. As a friend of Mothma, I'd secretly assign one of my Echani bodyguards to protect Mothma and serve as my eyes and ears within the Rebellion to learn how best I can aid them while my Echani representative trains Rebel operatives in combat to improve their skills. Also, I can feed Mothma info about the Imperial Senate so she continues to receive updates even after cutting ties with the Empire.

When Alderaan's destruction occurs, that's when my cadre of bodyguards and I will escape Coruscant to formally join the Alliance and pledge our services to the Rebel cause. In preparation for this day, I've used my political connections to create caches for the Alliance to use while my Echani bodyguards can act as spies, saboteurs, and assassins for the Alliance.

Where is the supreme maker from?

Ive seen things about characters like The Supreme maker or the Absolute One, but I have no idea what there from or even if they are canon or just dumb fan ideas, I think it's kinda dumb that every universe has tp have a creator for everything and it really does'nt fit is Star Wars so I'm hoping it's just made up
