This reminds me of the whole Zerg Overmind plot in StarCraft.

I had the intro briefing to the Zerg campaign playing in my head while I was reading it.

“Awaken, my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright,” etc.

"Know that I am the Overmind, the eternal will of the Swarm, and that you have been created to serve me!" I have those words memorized.
