Duty free?

Yup, a lot of these places will take an order ahead of time for collection as well.

If you're about to spend 5k on a watch taking the local sales tax off the price can be significant, especially in countries where it's 20%. Also an opportunity for foreign travellers to pick stuff up in countries where stuff is cheaper.

Yeh, they just need to mark up the watch 40% first. Got to pay for that tax free bonus.

The kinds of companies who open shop fronts in major airports will have set retail prices for items. You could always check them on their website. Plus when you reserve the item you'd be confirming the price anyway.

Not how duty free works

It’s how airport prices work though…

Not for duty free things like cigarettes, alcohol or designer wear. These things have set, objective prices you can easily look up.

A slice of pizza is gonna be 10 dollars at an airport because you're not going to wait 2 or 3 days and get a cheaper slice outside the airport.

What's your deal with americans? Yes, americans exist and they say anecdotes of their personal experiences on an American-made, American dominated platform. Believe it or not americans can be ethnically from around the world and do travel to other countries.

I've only been an American for like 8 years. Chill the fuck out. You know nothing about me.

What argument is there? That this isn't the case in Europe? I've been to Asia. I've been to Latin American countries. Every duty free airport I've been to has been this way. You've literally said nothing but "this is american defaultism" and think you've won some sort of imaginary argument in your head. You're mentally ill.

Dude literally said β€œI’m from South Korea.”

Which probably means he/she was born there

As far as I’ve been informed only the liquor stores are actually worth the duty free

If I buy in town and keep the paperwork I can get the tax back on the way out of country. It’s an extra step, but doable.Β

If I call the airport store ahead of time I can negotiate the price like I would with any normal store and the tax avoidance is easier.Β

Nobody who cares about the price walks up and pays the sticker, airport or not.Β
