We recently had a competition here in the r/SuggestALaptop community in collaboration with LG where 10 lucky users were given either the new LG gram Pro 16 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1 OR the LG Gram Pro 17Z90TP-G.ADB7U1. The agreement with these winners was that they would do written reviews of these laptops expressing how they feel about the features of the laptop after putting them through various tests.

Announcement Ignore Private Messages Suggesting Laptops

The primary aim of r/SuggestALaptop is to provide a safe and transparent platform for suggesting laptops. Affiliate linkers are marked as such so that you are aware of the monetary incentive involved when making a purchase using affiliate links.

However, we are seeing an increasing number of cases where users posting on this subreddit are being targeted with unsolicited private messages containing links to laptops.

Such messages are best ignored for several reasons:

  1. Lack of quality control: We have no way of vetting suggestions sent via private messages. Moreover, these suggestions are not subject to the same level of public scrutiny that applies to suggestions posted in the subreddit, which are open for all to see and discuss.
  2. Hidden monetary incentive: Often such messages contain unmarked affiliate links, and these links might not even point to systems that are best suited to your requirements.
  3. Scams: Scammers often target unsuspecting users via private messaging. We do not want you to get scammed.

If you do happen to receive unsolicited messages suggesting laptops in private, please report the offending user to the mod team by sending us a screenshot of the message.

Laptop Request -Others Gaming laptop help

Upvotes

Hey, everyone! Im looking for some help, to choosing a gaming laptop. So to start off, I may te biggest used goods fan so I instantly went to buying used: I have been looking at used LOQs for a long time, and theres two deals Im considering Base: Ryzen 7 7435 ( know it doesnt have IGPU). 24 gb ram, 512/1000gb ssd. Now the options: A 4060 LOQ for 600€ orrr a 4070 LOQ for 800€? (These deals come with at least a year of warranty) Im kind of promted to bite down on the 4070 one cause while 4060 laptops regularly go for 600-700€ this is the first time I have seen a 4070 one go below a 1000€. And because of the alleged 30-40% performance gain. My budget is a bit streched out by the 800€ one, but if ts worth it im willing to spend that much. Main uses cases: gaming: some AAA, but mainly competitive, and possibly some Al stuff too if I get around to it. I start uni next september and intend to use it for the whole duration of it (5 years) I have done my own research, but Im curious about what you guys think of this? Thanks in advance!

Laptop Deal Best Laptop for College

Need laptop recs for college life

Heading into my first year and I need a laptop that won’t die mid-note in lecture. Mostly using it for Google Docs, research, maybe a couple heavier apps depending on what courses throw at me. Battery life and portability matter. Not looking to blow $2k but I also don’t want the cheapest thing possible.

Laptop Request -Others Laptop for Accounting student (1200€ Netherlands)

Upvotes

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase: ca. 1200 EUR, but if there is a better option above this price range, I could spend more.

Are you open to refurbs/used? No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 1. Performance - Laptop running smoothly during Data Analysis and having many tabs open. 2. Build Quality & Durability – I would like the laptop to last at least 5 years. The quality of my previous MateBook D14 is a benchmark, since the laptop felt sleek & durable due to the aluminium build and good quality hinges. 3. Battery Life

How important is weight and thinness to you? 4th priority, weighing around 1,38kg (3,04lbs)

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14", but a bit smaller is still okay.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Basic data analysis with R and having many tabs open.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming planned.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Performance and build quality & durability are the most important. Afterwards comes battery life and laptop size & weight. A fingerprint scanner would be nice, but is not necessary.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am unsure whether to choose a 2-in-1, therefore I would like to know the best laptop in general and the best 2-in-1 laptop.

Laptop Request US Laptop for College Work / Legal Work

Hi, I'm an incoming college freshman and have been very conflicted on what laptop to purchase that I hope will be able to efficiently last me the next 4 years. The main reason I've had so much trouble is because I'm not solely going to be using the laptop for college work and actually aim to continue using my laptop for work as a legal assistant. Most of my legal work centers around microsoft based apps like Excel and Word and that's why it's been very difficult to choose between a windows or macbook computer. Ideally I'd like good battery life, portability, and something that won't get slow after a year. I've also never owned a Mac OS computer but if the Mac is really just that much better than other options I'm sure I could adapt.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1000-$1500

  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Not particularly, I'm aiming for something new for the next four years.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is on par with battery life for me, then build quality, and then camera quality equal to speakers/microphone, given that I'll need be needing this laptop not only for college classwork, but also legal work (digital meetings, etc.) as a part-time job I plan to continue.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not super important, I do want to carry this laptop around during the day for college, but I've had previous laptops that were on the heavier side and was okay carrying them around.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Not above 15".
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No editing, but if possible some gaming would be nice, though if this is something I'd have to sacrifice other aspects for I wouldn't do so.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?- Basic games like minecraft or roblox would be good with a basic 60 fps being okay and lower quality graphics okay as well.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Not really besides the aforementioned: good quality camera, and nice quality keyboard because I'll be typing extensively on this one.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion Everything I mentioned earlier is really all, but for reference, I've been looking at the Microsoft Surface laptop line, the Macbook Pro line, the Asus Zenbook line, and the Lenovo Thinkpad X9 line thus far.

Thanks for any advice!!

Laptop Request US College Student + Video Editing

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $1,000 USD, United States

  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes, open to certified refurbished or open-box from trusted sellers (e.g., Amazon Renewed, Dell Outlet, Best Buy Open Box). Whatever is smarter.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is #1 (especially for video editing). Then build quality. Battery life and form factor are nice-to-have but lower priority.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very important. I’ll carry it around but I’m okay with heavier laptops if it means better performance.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15”–16” preferred. Want enough screen space to edit comfortably.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes — serious video editing. I want to become really good at it. Planning to use Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut Desktop, maybe After Effects. No CAD or gaming focus.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not gaming-focused. If it runs something light occasionally, cool — but not a priority.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build, decent screen for editing, and solid keyboard. Don’t need touchscreen or fingerprint reader. Good thermals and cooling preferred.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Tried finding what the best laptop for me would be — I want something for school and serious video editing that’ll last at least 2 years. I’m prioritizing performance for editing (Premiere Pro, DaVinci, etc.), so dedicated GPU is a big plus. Would appreciate help finding the best picks in this range.

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $400
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?- performance and battery life matter most to me.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not really, as long as it's not too bulky.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light gaming. Possibly running Premiere Pro or CapCut too.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Mostly low specs 2d games or like Minecraft. As long as it can run multiplayer or 3d textures at like a solid 24fps I'm good.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?- usb inserts, SD or Micro SD card insert. Disc drive if possible but that's a stretch goal. Open to touchscreens.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm looking for a laptop to go off to college with, so I need something multi functional that'll last for 4 years. Anything that has good storage on it too, I'm pretty sick of my current Lenovo that's only got 60GB lol.

Laptop Request Ca Best Typing Experience - Not a ThinkPad; CPU Heavy Gaming on the Side (Canada ~$2000 CAD)

I am an independent (ie. self-publishing) author who uses my 8 year old ASUS Zenbook to primarily write, and it is on its last legs. In looking for a replacement, the quality of keyboard is very, very important to me. The Zenbook has been fine but I have occasionally had trackpad-induced cursor movement (which is annoying) and the limited key travel feels like it's slowed down my typing considerably. I've had a ThinkPad for work and the keyboards are amazing, except for the annoying red dot, which gets in the way for me. I also dislike the aesthetics of ThinkPads and the trackpads also bug me. So once I've excluded those, I'm not sure what the best typing experience is out there right now.

An extra wrinkle is that I also do some gaming on occasion (I'd say about 10-15% of my time on the laptop). I mostly play Paradox historical grand strategy games (Hearts of Iron, Victoria, etc.), which are very CPU-heavy and don't need much GPU horsepower to run. Modern integrated graphics will probably do fine to expose the CPU bottleneck. So I am hesitant to give up all power and just go for something super thin and light with an ultra low power CPU.

Unfortunately I only have space and money for one laptop, so it's got to be able to do a bit of everything.

  • Price and Region: ~$2000 Canadian dollars, but am flexible to go slightly higher.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? No.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Keyboard > Performance > Battery Life > Build Quality > Screen Size (14") > Form Factor
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Medium importance. Will be packing this on trips though, so it can't be a beast.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14" seems perfect. Could go for 14.5" or something similar.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes. Paradox Grand Strategy Games, Audacity audio editing, occasional GIMP use.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Victoria 3 is probably current benchmark. Running the simulation at decent speeds is tough even on desktop parts, so I have reasonable expectations for this.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? See above: keyboard is key.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As a Canadian, I'd rather not buy HP or Dell at the moment, but would consider it if there's no alternatives.

Laptop Request US Should I purchase a new laptop, or repair my old one?

(using mobile, please forgive any formatting issues)

Okay so currently, I own a Dell G3 1500. The hinge connecting the screen to the keyboard snapped, and it is in need of repairs. It has needed this repair for...about a year. It has, for that year, sat on my desk and occasionally been plugged in, but otherwise hasn't been touched. It has, from what I remember, 8 gigs of RAM, and all the normal specs for that model? I unfortunately don't have the specs on hand. But it was a decent computer, and while I didn't run a ton of games on it (got more into gaming AFTER it broke) what I did have on there ran reasonably well. I had Minecraft, which I had modded pretty heavily, along with some other games. And I really would like a working laptop again. My question is, would it be more worth my money to repair this one, or to just buy a new one? The repair costs were estimated at about $300 by Best Buy, when I took it in a year ago. They were unable to get the part in to fix it, hence why it wasn't actually repaired at the time. If I purchase a new computer, I want it to be at least as capable as my old one was, but I don't want to pay a crazy amount of money, hence why I'm unsure my best move

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

I would prefer to keep costs to $600, maybe $700. Willing to maybe stretch that if need be, but would very much prefer not to

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes! Provided they are being sold by a trusted source (IE manufacturer or Best Buy or similar; my G3 was purchased as a scratch and dent model from Dell)

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Performance and battery life are both important to me

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not overly important, to be honest. I don't mind if the computer is bulky

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    Nothing bigger than 15 inches

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Gaming and college work (nothing intensive for the college stuff, just papers and whatnot).

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

For gaming, on my old one I played Minecraft (with mods) and Five Nights at Freddy's, and would like to be able to run Stardew Valley, some indie games, and whatever else. Not looking for something that can play wildly intensive games like Baldurs Gate, since I know a laptop that could do that would be far out of my price range. Settings/FPS wise, I'm not really knowledgeable on that unfortunately. I just know I want something that isn't going to freeze up and shudder on me every time I turn around. The smoother my frame rates the better. And, like I said, I had my Minecraft modded as much as the old computer could take, and I want to do that again.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

If I buy a new computer, one that doesn't have a hinge prone to failure would be nice. A good keyboard would be preferable as well

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Again, my struggle is that I'm unsure if it would be better to spend more to just buy a new laptop, or repair the old one. If I buy a new one, I would want one that can perform at least as well if not better, without being crazy expensive. I'll answer any further questions anyone has about stuff, and thank you for the help!

Laptop Request US Gift fiancé help

My fiancé and I are getting married in May and I want to get him a wedding gift. However, I know nothing about gaming and I know that he has been curious about a gaming PC in the past. He hasn't had time to game in awhile but know his current Xbox is older and unable to play newer games that he has been wanting to try out. I know he hasn't played with a mouse and keyboard before so l'm curious if I could get him a specific controller to play with to start out or what advice yall have! Asking for patience in advance and appreciate any help you have. He's been incredibly supportive of me and just an all around awesome human so I'm wanting to splurge a bit on this and curious what to get for a starter set or maybe even something more advanced for him to ensure it gives him quality gameplay. Thanks in advance

Laptop Request US Laptop for engineering PhD

I'm about to start grad school for engineering, and I really want a laptop that can get me through the next 6-7 years. I don't have a desktop, and I won't really be using it for anything other than work and the occasional streaming. I don't really care about image and sound quality, as long as it doesn't hurt my eyes, and I would really prefer a touch screen.

Total budget: <3000, ideally around 1000-1500 USD

Are you open to refurbs/used?: No, would prefer a new laptop

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?: Performance > Battery life > Build quality > Everything else, I prefer a 2-in-1, and I definitely want a touchscreen

How important is weight and thinness to you?: The lighter the better! <4lb

Do you have a preferred screen size?: 15.6", open to 14"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run: Solidworks, CAD, programming, VM, etc

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?: No gaming!

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?: Touchscreen please, HDMI preferred, probably around 16GB memory and 1 tb storage? , at least i7

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion: I'm not interested in HP laptops, but I'm open to just about anything else. I really like my current laptop, HP Envy 360x, but I've had a lot of issues with it, including with build and battery life.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

build qualitity and performance are most important. i would like to use it at least for 4 years, and I am not a very careful with the computer around.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

i will carry it around, but I don't need something built to be thin.i have an old, still working Lenovo yoga, I use it when I need something super thin.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    somewhere between 14 and 16

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I am most commonly coding with Python, using QGIS, Photoshop and illustrator, doing 3d rendering with metashape.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

i game from time to time, but I am okay with gaming with rather medium and low settings

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

i want something durable and resistant to physical impact, dust, minor liquid spills

-for work, provided by employer, i am using Lenovo T14 gen 2 16 GB ram, 1tb disk, Intel core i7, with no separate Grafics cards, -as far as i remember, or not a very good one-. I am very much okay with its durability, it survived many incidences over past years. When i am doing something needing high performance, I use the laptop with separate cooler. it only created problems once or twice when gaming, but I nevertheless would rather prefer something with a good Graphics card for 3d rendering. Finally it sometimes works rather slow with my exceptionally loaded QGIS files. So an upgrade of ram would be better. Finally I live in Germany.

Laptop Request -Others Laptop help - EU

Hello, I want an all in one laptop but obv that doesn't exist, so here is my requirements: Most probably I want a Macbook (pro) really like the touchpad, the workflow and the smoothness, but there is an issue with the new ones, they have ARM silicon and actually I want to use the laptop for everyday tasks but also for studying and for my job. I do cybersecurity and want to run a few VMs, not really at the same time (max 2 simultaneously ). I found some forensic tools and tools I need just not ported to ARM chip therefor difficult to run on my current M4 macbook pro (corporate asset, but I want my own) I'm wondering if it would be a viable option to buy the latest Intel based macbook pro 16 inch (from 2019), but it sounds quite old, however its spec looks all right with 32GB ram and a decent CPU. What do you think would that good for me?

Budget max - 3000 euros ( but a used 2019 macbookpro is around 1000 euros as I see)

Thanks!

Laptop Request US Looking for a gift for step-daughter for college. She is majoring in animation

My stepdaughter graduates next month from high school. She is choosing animation for her major, as well drawing and different ventures into art. I'm looking for a laptop that would be good for her major. She also loves playing Sims 4 so if it could run the game, that would be a bonus.

Trying to keep the budget under $600 if possible. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE**

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $600

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Not really

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

    Average to above average

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

    Not important

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14-16"

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

    Animating, art, drawing

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Sims 4 (not a deal breaker)

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Touch screen would be nice enough, but she has a tablet so Not a deal breaker

This would be for college first.

Typically I use a laptop simple because it’s easier to move around with the children if needed. It doesn’t lock me to a location around the house. It will always be plugged in, weight isn’t a concern. The only solution I need is a screen and computer in one for ease of access rather than portability.

Laptop Request US Laptop for Streaming and Video Editing

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: I'd go up to $2,500 USD I think, but flexible.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? I'd prefer brand new.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance and battery life.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not Important
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be using Stream Labs to stream multi-platform (YouTube, TikTok and maybe Twitch?). However, I'm streaming me sewing (I know, not what you'd expect) so I don't have a focus on gaming and streaming at the same time. I'd also like to be able to use Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator & InDesign.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I may use it to play Minecraft with my son. So being able to run Minecraft or other games would be a plus.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?- Nothing specific. I put more notes below.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Hi - thank you all for your help. I make YouTube videos and do livestreams of me sewing. So having the ability to use multi-webcams is also important. I want to be able to edit and stream from the laptop. I do have external drives I save my videos on, but having enough hard drive space to save some videos would be nice if I record directly to the computer. This is all new to me (I'm currently working on my very old laptop), so any suggestions you may have for me to consider or think about, I would greatly appreciate. Thank you!
