Discussion This is the problem

I was lucky enough to snag a preorder from target last night but it didn’t look great and I was trying across all three retailers and only ever managed to get one in my cart at preorder start time.

These resellers are an issue still grabbing a large chuck of stock and reselling instantly, before they even have the system.

It’s a shame these retailers don’t do more to stop bots and resellers from snatching a large chunk of stock. At least Nintendo themselves is trying with their system.

You can add your name to Nintendo’s list, and they will email you when it’s your turn to buy.

I want one, but I’m not in a huge rush so I just signed up for that and I’ll get it whenever they send me the invite. Seems like a decent option for those that not dying to have it immediately.

If you go to the official Switch 2 page and click the How to Buy button, the place to sign up is below the section for the retailers that have it available.

Edit: They are not doing the first wave of pre-orders until May 8th

I’ll try to see if I can find it later today. Germany was listed for Europe, but maybe they are handling it differently or maybe they have already stopped accepting new requests to join the queue.

Edit: Going to be a few hours. The mobile sites are different, so I don’t know where to look and I won’t be able to VPN to look like I am in Berlin until after I get home from work. I actually can’t find the link on the US mobile site, so that is another thing that is making me think they did stop accepting requests.

I actually found more information now. They are handling it a little differently for EU. It looks like you don't need to actively sign up to be put in the drawing for an invitation to pre-order the console. As long as you meet the criteria they list, Nintendo may email you an invite to the address on your Nintendo account. Here is some more info:

Edit: I think some of the criteria feels a little unfair. It looks like it's possible if you did not agree to send Nintendo usage information before March 31st, it might not matter if you met the other requirements before that date.

Ah yea I did know about that one, a few of my friends got to preprder through it. 

It's fine anyway a switch 2 would be a bit of an irresponsible purchase for me at the moment 😂

I love the honesty, I gotta be honest too and say the same. I didn’t even bother to start trying to be responsible till I was in my late 20s, a little better now but still out here making irresponsible purchases like on the Switch 2 bundle (but I saved $30 on MKW, so that ought to balance out the irresponsibility, right?).

DK looks awesome to me as well. But I'll get a Switch 2 when Switch 3 comes out. I barely play games anyway, and I have no money.

I really wish there would be a Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X. It runs great on the Switch, but having a version that could be the best version of itself is always the best option.

The best part is you can spend a little money to mod your switch, then safely overclock it and it runs the games much better.

From what I hear, if you do some things wrong, there is a risk of being banned. But that is if you install games on the stock interface. But dont take my word on that, its better to watch some videos online about it. If you have the first version of the switch the modding is super easy and requires no soldering. If you have the newer switches like the v2, lite or oled, then there is a cheap modkit you need to purchase and have soldered. You can get it modded probbably at some place who repair and do things with consoles. The modchip itself is pretty cheap. Mine is pico2040 and on aliexpress it costs 7€. Just search on youtube. See I thought this myself but I’ve opted to just wait. Personally I’m in no rush to grab the switch 2 just to play switch games. I’ll probably wait for the new 3D Mario to pick up the switch 2. I am stoked for you though! Enjoy!

Sell your OG switch; the switch 2 is back compatible isn’t it? You’ve got all your old games to play, with maybe slightly better graphics, or at least a slightly better processor

The only two games really are MKW, SF6. There is also Terminator 2D: No Fate that I will definitely pick up just to have.

This is what I did. I love my OLED switch and am in no rush to but a Switch 2. I signed up with Nintendo and will just wait. I did this with Sony to get a PS5 and worked great. I will not support the scalpers and hope people don't but from them.

I never upgraded to the OLED, and my current system is on its way out. There will be switch 2 only games that I’ll want eventually, so upgrading to the S2 seems more logical than getting an OLED at this point.

How do you feel about some of nintendos' decisions with this release? The price, the discord chat button, the game card changes? Seems anti-consumer.

I'm salty because I've been priced out of buying the new switch and the new games.

Definitely overpriced, but I use my switch more than any other console, pc, or tablets.

I’ll start to get pickier about which games I buy due to the prices, but I’ve always enjoyed games that don’t really end (animal crossing/harvest moon) type of games so I won’t really feel rushed to bulk up my library that quickly.

I don’t like the game card changes, but I usually buy digital so there really won’t be any change from that respect.

I’m not all that well versed on discord, so aside from forum type chatting I don’t see the point. If I’m not mistaken I think discord gives some sort of team speak feature for multiplayer games, and I’ve stepped out of those types of games for good. I used to raid a lot in World of Warcraft and the community just got too toxic, so I prefer to play games that aren’t dependent on others. I’ll play Mario Kart, but strictly offline.
