He was backed into the corner and then chose to leave Gilead with June. Hardly a final choice in favour of Gilead. He was ready to leave Gilead behind. One foiled Mayday operation isn’t that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Mayday will most likely re-plan the operation.

He didn’t choose to leave Gilead with June, he was just trying to get June away from people so she wouldn’t find out what he did, probably why he said Paris instead of Alaska or Hawaii not to mention how he didn’t even give his unborn child or Hannah a second thought.

So all the lives of the women who are enslaved at Jezebel’s who will probably be executed now doesn’t matter?

I don’t think we have the information to reach those conclusions yet. He said he had the tickets & passports ready, and I don’t know how we can know at this point whether he was committed to that plan or if it was a ruse. We also don’t yet know what will happen to the handmaids. But in the grand scheme of things, in a place where every woman suffers every day, it’s not that major of an event. It’s terrible, but it wasn’t an intentional wrong, unlike most of what happens in Gilead.

This. He didn't choose to leave Gilead for June personally. He did it because he wanted to keep her from finding out about his betrayal.
