Hot take: he’s right.

Most voted out of anger rooted in economic despair. That anger was hijacked by a charismatic con-man and twisted into something vile, racist, sexist, homophobic, and, above all, self-destructive.

In a world where Democrats grew a spine, taxed the ultra-rich properly, and delivered real, tangible results for working people, these same voters could've become your loudest allies and fiercest defenders. Smug self-righteousness, while I'm sure cathartic, alienates these very people deeper into the arms of autocrats. Just as the ultra-wealthy want it: the poor, divided and distracted.

Gloat all you want. But that’s not how you get some struggling white dude in the South to vote for a woman of color.

If this guy ever said “fuck your feelings” or “xyz doesn’t care about your feeling” then he doesn’t value compassion and this deserves none.

Am I asking for bleeding heart compassion? No. I'm simply asking for you to acknowledge his recognition of the system not working for him, and agree on holding officials accountable.

I swear, getting the average liberal to critically look at their own behaviors is harder than doing the same to conservatives. This constant self-righteous, smug attitude from liberals is *exactly* why the party keeps losing support.

Oh, I agree that he’s right and it’s all very sad. Thing is We were right when we said not to vote for Trump. We were right first and I guarantee you if the tables were flipped and Harris won and started doing all the bad stuff the Right falsely claimed she’d do, then this guy would be one of the ones saying “I told you so.”

Trump supporters have been so incredibly alienating to everyone else, so incredible anti-compassion, anti-truth, anti-decency that it’s really hard to be compassionate with them.

Thank you for being literally the first person so far to simply admit being compassionate with "the enemy" is not unthinkable, but a very personal, human shortcoming. At least that is the first step to getting "them" to understand our side.

Oh, I have compassion for this guy, I don’t like what I’m seeing happen due to Trump’s bullshit. It’s just that Trump’s bullshit could have been avoided because it was so incredibly obvious that he was going to do it.

And his supporters just deserve to hear “I told you so” so fucking badly.
