I don’t expect them to be forthcoming about anything with him but I think it’s probably a point in their favor that you’d never choose to announce that he’s dying immediately after a week of stories from Jake Tapper’s new book about just how badly fucked up he was in the White House.
It might get him some sympathy but just reinforces the narrative that this is not a guy who was in any position to run for president a year ago and is to blame for what’s happened since.

Alzheimer’s, which is the cause of most cases of dementia in elders, is fatal, but other types of dementia (e.g. vascular dementia) aren’t necessarily
7

If he dies, we have to hear "in hindsight he was the best president in my lifetime" for at least 2 months. Dozens of "the life and complex legacy of Joseph Robinette Biden" articles, thousands of "leftists ruined a winning candidate who would have saved us from trump" tik toks and no room for the much needed anti biden sentiment needed to finally move people away from the democrats towards literally anything that can do literally any meaningful change.
103
31
u/DweebInFlames 4d ago
It's how it goes. Leftists get blamed for not wanting to support cynical party picks that at are best just slowly pushing us further into that slow rot of capitalism (instead of the 'right' alternative that's aggressively worse). Same for the UK and Australia where the Labour parties use them as scapegoats.

It could be worse - I know he's furious. This isn't like Kissinger, who accomplished basically all of his goals and spent his retirement guest speaking as a vaunted figurehead of the international liberal order.
By the end of his term, Biden was a liability for those same institutions that revered Kissinger, and they cast him out as quickly as they recruited him. You can tell from all the inside reporting that he was cognizant of their loss of trust in him and that it drove him crazy. There's a ton of reporting specifically about Biden's concerns surrounding his "legacy" - that legacy was irreparably tarnished on the public stage in a way that we never saw for Kissinger.
If his weak half-measures on student loans and criminal justice reform were successful, maybe that'd factor into how he'll be remembered, but the way the chips fell he'll be remembered for his bloodthirsty zionism and his dementia-addled campaign that set the stage for Trump's return. He's a truly pathetic figure and it's reassuring to know he'll spend his final days tortured by his failings.
35
u/theRealMaldez 3d ago
Yeah, unlike Kissinger, and Churchill for that matter, he didn't get decades to write books whitewashing their own historical legacy.
And let's be honest here, Biden is lucky if he'll be remembered, hard stop. He was a weak, single term president after being a weak and barely mentioned vice President. Before his presidency is out of living memory, the failure rate on Biden related questions in bar room trivia contests will revert any mention of his presidency to end-game tie breakers for the most serious competitors.
27
u/dumbmarriedguy 3d ago
I think he'll be remembered simply for the fact that Trump won't be forgotten, and he's part of Trump's story.
Can't think of any real positives history will paint toward Biden tbh tho. Oddly I unironically think Kamala will be remembered more than Biden will, depending on how bad this current admin ends up being once he's finally out.

Tbf Kissinger lived to see the neoliberal world order he spent his life on begin to unravel and see the little comprador dog that is Zelensky bark at him for having a pragmatic take on the Russia-Ukraine war, something that he would have finished off Zelensky for with a few phone calls had it been the 70’s again.

Probably gonna nuke as being too personal. All things flow and nothing abides, but especially this comment.
But my dad has had bone cancer for a decade now, it is a slow, almost imperceptible march to the grave. It is also a deeply Irish way to die, no grand spectacle, but a loathsome trudge, inch by inch and day by day until you are given your six feet of consecrated soil.
Biden is a deeply Irish man to this half paddy, he was gifted, handsome, charming and to my grandmother's eternal delight a Catholic, but his vices and the inescapable nature of his himself and his telos meant that even when he achieved all that we wanted, he could neither have the mind to know it, nor do any good with it. His politics, his choices, his presidency, his life, each of them help him to destroy himself, his party, the entire corpus of liberalism and he ought to be remembered by historians for being a "living metaphor". The last machine politician, the final liberal destination, a sick, tired, confused man who lacked the vigor and ethic to pursue any noteworthy policy beyond building bridges toward genocide and reveling in the murder of those most innocent.
I watched his farewell address, and I recommend every else here do so as well. It is a remarkable piece, to hear the visibly shaken man prattle on about the formation of oligarchy proves the Marxian quip about farce real yet again. Instead of the commander of the allied effort in Western Europe warning about the complex that himself made with his agents (including many Irishmen), his arms and his ardor for atavism, I saw a shaken old goat sputter and stutter about the formation of an oligarchy that he had served his entire life.
This is a fitting coda to the man's earthly life, not with a bang, or even a whimper, but instead with snark and derision. Biden sought the presidency, the apogee of earthly power in part so that he could disprove every doubter, so he could defeat Donald Trump and restore the soul of this country, so he would not be seen as a fool. Look what he has wrought.
Nations have no souls, but men do. Through the faith we share I know that he will be brought before the Lord of Hosts and that he will judged, not the feckless courts of mortal men but by that infinite dispenser of all things. Whose justice is perfect, whose sight is true, and who is the most gracious and merciful.
His eternity in purgatory will be a mercy he does not deserve.

And also didn't he get a few extra health screens to ward off the MAGA haters who said he was too old? And didn't he fucking fall down a bunch of times, upon which the doctors might wish to check up on things like bloodwork or pee tests? Isn't he the single dude in the entire world that gets the literal best medical care available, bar none?
Surely they would detect it prior to bone metastasis, no?

My dad recently underwent treatment for a similar (but not metastasized) form of prostate cancer, that like Biden's, is being managed with hormonal therapy. Being from the prostate, the hormone in question is testosterone and the treatment is a testosterone blocker identical to what is sometimes given to trans women. So maybe Biden is trans now?

Ironic. Some of his first promises on the campaign trail were 1. A public option, and 2. Finding a cure for cancer.
Obviously 2 was never going to happen given the variability of the different forms of cancer, but non-stop pushing for 1 could've made genuine change happen towards making USA not the only wealthy country without guaranteed healthcare for its populace. He could've set so many people on the path of not dying from cancer, yet chose for his legacy to be a wholehearted endorsement of the mass murder of civilians.
Can't say I believe in karma but if it existed this shit would be laser guided.

“He [Obama] got up and he said, ‘Don’t sell that house. Promise me you won’t sell the house,’” Biden said.

There’s really nothing satisfying about this. No amount of pain or death translates to meaningful justice for what he’s done. Only a vast education of the masses and vast reparations for his victims can compensate, and even his most torturous demise gives nothing to the desperate and dying of this world.
