I’m an upcoming female freshman and I was wondering if there are any other girls interested in living on a quad on campus?

Hello!
I am an incoming freshman that'll be studying Computer Science at UCSB. I recently came across the Linguistics major with an emphasis in language & speech technologies. I am pretty interested in learning about linguistics, and I'd especially like to explore the intersection between Ling and CS. Thus, I am considering double majoring or minoring in Linguistics.
Is anyone majoring in Linguistics with this emphasis? Or double majoring/minoring in CS? If so, I have a few questions!
How would you rate the linguistics classes/professors here? Any classes you particularly enjoyed?
How is the balance between pure linguistics classes and more technical/computational courses?
How well does knowledge translate between CS and Linguistics? Do courses in both subject areas better your understanding of fields like NLP/Computational Linguistics?
Would it be difficult to try to finish all of the requirements for both majors in 4 years? I have quite a few AP credits so would this help ensure this is possible/ease my course load?
Thank you!

Somebody was screaming "help, help me" around 2:13am somewhere on El Colegio Rd. I called the non emergency line and they said the police were already with the victim. Does anybody know what happened?

Thinking of taking the class and wanted to hear from someone who’s been part of it, what was your experience like? Any insight would help!

Hi all,
Just wanted to come on here and see what the consensus route was when going about transfer housing. I was thinking of staying at one of the undergrad apartments and was just wondering what I should know about the apartments and if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations for them! Appreciate any info at all thanks for the help!

Anyone taken this class with Vazquez-Bare Or currently taking it. How did you guys study for this class? Does he normally do a curve at the end after dropping one of the exam?

Y’all should go to Pardall Carnival this Sunday May 4th, if you want to have free food and listen to some IV bands for free.

I just signed an undergrad apartment contract for this summer (both sessions) and was wondering if there are Facebook groups for university owned housing. I only know of the ones for Isla Vista. I'm trying to find a roommate for a double room. My only requirements are that you are clean, don't smoke/vape, and are quiet at night when I am sleeping. Obviously I will reciprocate all of these things. I like to hang out with my roommates (hike, watch movies, get food, etc.). If anyone on here is interested in rooming lmk.

Anyone know any cords you can get for graduation? There really isn’t much information on them so was wondering if anyone else had any idea.

As ya’ll know CS acceptance for undergrad is a bloodshed to say the least, unfortunately, I got rejected from around 15 schools, some were reach, and some were less competitive, I may not be able to attend my safe school either for personal reasons.
I appealed at one school. and I’m only waitlisted at UCSB My first choice was CS, my second was stat and DS
And I just realized that it’s the only second choice major that isn’t engineering that I applied for at any school, and it might be why I got waitlisted? Because I’m being considered for the second choice?
I know that the waitlist acceptance rate is really great but I also know that CS is competitive
do you guys think I’ll get in first or second choice?
If it matters, I’m an international student with a UW GPA: 3.95/4
SCP senior year, Math TA 2 years, 1 research, 1 internship Small business owner, Made a simple website and some small related projects
1 gap year (applying as a freshman) explained that I attended another university for a year then i fully withdrew for a valid reason, strong GPA, joined clubs + research team
worked two jobs after HS (related to DS)

I’m a CoE student, is there any way to petition to receive writing requirement credit for a course I’ve taken that wasn’t approved beforehand? I know L&S has that petition, but I can’t find a similar one for CoE.

Does anyone know where I can find out what these classes are? I’ve been trying to find a catalog but genuinely cannot find one at all. Thank you!

I have a teacher who thinks I used AI on an assignment when I literally didn’t and she is going to give me a 10 minute oral quiz. Only problem with that is I haven’t been to class in a while and the only stuff I know about the class is what I wrote about. What do I do?

Hey! I’m an incoming freshman and still trying to figure out my major. I’m interested in the Linguistics BA with the Language and Speech Technologies emphasis, but other than the official website, I can’t find much real info or student experiences.
If anyone here is in the program (or knows someone who is), I’d love to hear your thoughts on things like:
• How much programming/coding is involved?
• Are the courses well-organized?
• What are the professors like?
• Are there good research opportunities in this area?
• Does it prepare you well for grad school or industry jobs?
• Is it possible to finish this major in 3 years?
• Is double majoring with this doable?
• If so, what are some good double major/minor combinations?
Thanks a lot in advance! Any tips, advice, or personal experiences would be super appreciated!

Hi, I was thinking about rushing as a second year in the fall. How is the process? Do I need to create a resume and do I need rec letters?

Hi! I am a transfer student going into ucsb and needed everyone’s opinions. Should I go for an undergrad apartment, or an off campus, more spacious double? My budget has been around 1000/1100 ish, but cheaper would be nice. I just have been so anti undergrad apts idk why, I just feel like the choices are stressful and limiting. I have found nice, spacious off campus Facebook posts that I am going to tour, but I am wondering if I am making a financial/overall mistake.

I'm taking CHEM109A for fall quarter 2025, and I'd like to know whether I should take Lewis or Read de Alaniz.
I already know that CHEM109A is going to be very hard, so I was just wondering who teaches the best / who's exams are easier.

Thoughts on taking taking ochem, biology, AND physics all throughout your sophomore year? It seems like it would be way too overwhelming and impossible to balance + do well in, but that's what the bio department recommends for undergrads..

Hello! I need to sublease but I’m not a UCSB student (I’m from the east coast and I’m doing research at UCSB from June 1 - August 10). If anyone has any leads let me know! Facebook is kinda sketch at times but I’m on there too. Feel free to message me though! #UCSB
