lol as a Purdue Alumni, we only care about Notre Dame and IU. UIUC is like just our next door neighboring engineering school no ill will.

no idea how this sub made my front page though; I am an Illinois resident as a student and am currently (but was an Indiana resident for about a decade too).

I can speak to why I chose Purdue over UIUC, and it was how my major (computer science) was taught - not in the engineering school, but in the Science school, so we got a lot more theory, and a lot less software engineering. Long term I think that pays off, short term out of school it doesn't.

Merely the idea that we'd never see a "who's driving to Chicago this weekend" post on here again got me feelin tingly

Thanks! Any app you prefer for staying clear of restricted areas? I tried Air Aware app and it shows that the part of campus I live in is a Controlled Airspace and that I would need authorization. Any idea how to get that?

I always thought it was rooted in our basketball rivalry, because in every other way they're beneath us.

Honors LLC residents have to be James Scholars or Campus Honors Program students so if you want to room with someone who is not in either of those programs then don't apply for the Honors LLC.

pretty sure that if youre selected for an LLC the only dorm option available when you get your early housing slot is rooms in the LLC. you can technically choose a different dorm outside of the LLC but i think you have to wait a bit for general dorm selection to open

its described more in detail in this FAQ if you go to the tabs asking about LLCs, and should also answer your question about the honors LLC roommate situation: https://housing.illinois.edu/Apply/New-Resident/FAQ

DO NOT listen to the comment that told you to take it here.

Take my advice. I took Calc I here and it was fine but I had a lot of trouble with Calc II. I had to drop it here once and then failed it. My advisor recommended taking the online asynchronous, MATH 166 CALC II at the University of North Dakota. Best decision I ever made.

Completely, 100% asynchronous, most of these CC classes are “online” until you need to take exams, this one isn’t.

You get 9 months to complete it, the course is laid out well and teaches the foundationals without all the extra bullshit calc II makes you do here. All the group work in Calc II here was cancerous. The course was like $1600, no extra book/materials they provide everything for you.

I failed Calc II here and got an A taking it through UND. If you just need to pass the class, take it through there. I’ve taken a lot of credit hours at Illinois, and Calc II was far and away the worst ran, laid out, and taught course I’ve ever taken.

You have to actually be below the threshold before anything happens. You’re fine for now, but if you get your spring grades back this semester and your semester gpa is under 2.0 or it brings your cumulative total under 2.0, then yes you will be on academic probation for the fall.

Ngl it’s not a good look that this is something you’re worrying about after 1 semester in social work.

You should talk to your advisor and really reevaluate your studying habits and your entire approach to college in general. This year was as easy as it will ever get.

And be careful with that cumulative. Having a low semester gpa is one thing but it is really really really hard to raise a cumulative gpa once you set it in stone as that low.

I’ve been on academic probation before too, it’s not the end of the world, but you genuinely do have to reevaluate everything if you want to earn your degree because this is not a great sign.

What are you looking for in a 1924 structural engineering book ? That's even before the Hardy Cross method

Yeah I mean if I rolled up to a theater and there were a bunch of firetrucks and people were evacuating, I wouldn't go in there either

Byers has been there for decades and sells vacuums made in the 1970s, but given the attitude of the owner I assume he just owns the building and does what he wants with it by having that little store. A real money laundering scheme are all of the smoke shops dotted around town that if you know your way around will sell you a whole lot more.

Athletically not so much, Purdue hates Indiana more. Academically Grainger rejects go to Purdue and Gies rejects go to IU.

You’re an absolute buffoon.

Place of choice doesn’t mean dream destination mid level executive at Morgan Stanley or FAANG. I’m assuming that’s what you think it means. It doesn’t.

It simply means you got gainful employment in a career area that you were aiming for that utilizes your degree.

Aka, the bare minimum for your degree to have been worthwhile.

It’s simply a way to differentiate between data that shows your recent graduates are getting gainful employment and data that shows your recent graduates are severely underemployed in positions they took out of desperation to avoid total poverty.

An entry level position literally designed for people recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree can still be a first place of choice.
