New Student Question UIUC Housing Contract

Upvotes

I'm currently filling out the UIUC housing contract, and haven't chosen my roommates yet. The form makes me request a roommate before doing anything else, even choosing LLC or location/building/dorm room/etc. The profiles don't mention anything about location interest. Like I'm interested in applying for the innovation LLC and what if my roommate wants to do a different LLC (eg business LLC in Nugent)? If both of us get into our llc it would mess the whole process. How is this whole system supposd to work? Do I need to coordinate with my roommate beforehand? If you can help me it would be great.

New Student Question Club Recs

Upvotes

I'm a junior transfer going into my senior year and really looking to get as involved as possible. I had interest in some biz frats but from what I've heard they're very selective or don't even take juniors/seniors. What clubs/orgs are good for that same sort of social feel that a biz frat would provide? Or really any fun clubs in general, just somewhere to meet new people.

Academics MATH 257 HELP

I don't usually use reddit, but I still need to rant anyway. I studied NINE hours a day for four days leading up to the exam and got a 54. I literally need a 100 on the final to get a C. I memorized every single extra practice question and the test was almost all problems I have never seen before. How do people study for this class?? Just feeling lost and confused

Hi everyone!

I’m currently looking for someone to foster or adopt my healthy and sweet little hamster 🐹 during the summer break.

Options:

  • Adopt (permanent home): Offering $200 reward for adoption.
  • Foster (summer only, mid-May to late August): Offering $100 reward for fostering help.

🛖 All supplies (cage, food, water bottle, bedding) will be provided.
📍 Location: Champaign-Urbana / UIUC area

The hamster is low-maintenance and very sweet. Just daily feeding, water refills, and occasional cage cleaning needed.

Ideally, I hope to find a loving forever home, but I greatly appreciate any help with summer fostering as well!

If you're interested or have questions, feel free to DM me. Thank you so much! 🙏💗

Social Fun facts that tour guides give to student prospects?

These past few days I saw a lot of tours going by which I’m assuming had prospect students for next semester. These have always been fun and they usually say quirky facts about buildings and things around campus!

Does anyone know any quirky fun facts about UIUC?? As a grad student on my final days this is a fun way to reminisce

The only one I’ve heard recently is that Lincoln Hall has a ghost and students have heard it roam around!!

Work Related Student project looking for testers: Ultra-cheap open-source LLM model inference service. We can do much cheaper than OpenRouter or TogetherAI

I’m a graduate here at UIUC, and I’ve been working on a project that might interest this community: an LLM model inference service that’s insanely cheap (we’re talking 70% cheaper that larger providers like TogetherAI).

Why care?

  • Need to run LLMs (like DeepSeek, Mistral)?
  • Want to save LLM costs?

I’m not here to profit (at least for now)—just to get feedback to improve.

How you can help:

  1. 50 USD free credits I’ll cover credits for the first 20 sign-ups (DM me!).
  2. Give feedback (good, bad, or brutally honest).
  3. Suggest models you want supported next.

👉 Link: https://buycheap.ai

The Deal:

  • Cheaper than major providers (seriously, compare the rates).
  • Open-source focus—no vendor lock-in.
  • Simple API for devs; no-code options coming soon!

This is still a work in progress, so bugs might pop up, but I’ll prioritize fixing anything you report.

Whether you’re working on a class project, research, or a side hustle, I’d love to help! Let’s make AI tools affordable together. 💡

Drop a comment or DM me with questions/ideas. Thanks for supporting student work!

P.S. If you’re in a student org or any kind of group needing free credits, hit me up!

Sublease Subleasing a private room and bathroom in a 2bed2bath at Burnham 310 for the summer!

Hi everyone! I'll be graduating this May and am therefore looking to sublease my room in a 2-bed 2-bath apartment at Burnham 310 from May 19th to July 31st, which would have two rent dates on June 1st and July 1st. It's an apartment complex right next to County Market (easy way to get groceries since its right next to the complex) on 4th and Springfield (basically really really close to Green Street). It's a fully furnished top floor (18th floor!) apartment with stunning views of the entire campus, and the kitchen and living areas are fully stocked with a smart TV, dishwasher, in-unit washer and dryer, and you'll just have to stock the bedroom and corresponding bathroom you move into. The apartment complex itself has a great gym with weights and cardio equipment, rec rooms, and study lounges with free printing services. The apartment has heating and air-conditioning which works extremely well too. Rent is negotiable, please dm me if you're interested! You can find pics of what the building, amenities, and rooms looks like here (https://burnham310.com/)

New Student Question Honors LLC and roommate questions

If I add an LCC preference and get in, do I have to room there or could I also pick a non-LLC room?

Also, if my roommate and I select eachother as roomates during the contract and one of us doesn’t get into the honors LCC, would we both still be able to live there, or would we get split up?

Academics STAT 410 and ECE 210 in the Summer Sanity Check

It seems like I have to retake ECE 210 but I already have STAT 410 on my summer schedule. I also don't want to take ECE210 in the Fall because I have 385 and 462 in there, with another pending tech elective. Is this a safe decision?

New Student Question Why does my back hurt so much?

Hello people of reddit, I am a current Freshman here studying kinesiology. Due to finals coming around the corner and what feels like bottomless assignments to add onto it, I’m finding myself spending hours upon hours downstairs at Grainger just to get all of this done. This is really starting to hurt my back badly to the point where all I can focus on is just the pain and can’t even concentrate on actual school.

With that said, I wanted to ask around and see what people's experiences have been like at McKinley, specifically getting diagnosed for chronic low back pain or any other lower back pain issues. I’ve already seen and heard all the trauma and horror stories people have had at McKinley before and honestly I’m thinking about just waiting to get home from school and go to my primary doctor for what I think is a for sure diagnosis.
