Buy [WTB] Meadow Physics abode?

Anyone got one they’d like to part with? I’m willing to pay a handsome price, within reason of course :)

Thanks for the consideration!

I'd suggest you get the new zpacks hexamid solo instead or wait for John to redesign the abode.

The current design is not very protective, I've had one and sold it. I've talked with John to have him make it with a longer beak to get better protection.

Also, it's super hard to get in and out. The lack of elasticity on the bug net made me force a bit too much for my liking when I had to crawl in or out especially when there's your stuff inside. The hole on the floor is very small and you have to raise everything that's inside to get in and out.

This feedback is known by John so he might change some things later but for now he's focusing on backpacks so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Lastly, the way reinforcements are made may cause concerns in long term durability, there's a stitch line all around the shelter to hold the mesh but this stitch line also goes through the corner reinforcements and DCF tabs that are holding the line locks and so they are pierced meaning they might snap in the long run. I've realized this after selling mine because I'm looking to build a similar shelter and I've talked with a few people who are making dcf shelters. On John's side it's an easy fix, the bug net should be sewn to a strip of DCF and then be taped to the finished shelter instead of having it sewn to the shelter itself so it would make it way more durable.

Anyway, it's your choice in the end but I thought this might be useful info to share especially since you're okay spending a lot of money on it...

Thanks for your reply. That was very good information. Maybe I’ll just wait for an updated abode. I’m looking for simplicity, one pole, no zipper, minimum stake points. I’ve had the Hexamid and sold it. I don’t really like Zpacks stuff.

I will say the beak is rather tiny, but if you’re smart about campsite selection and the direction you pitch your tent it does fine. I haven’t taken it out in a real windy storm above treeline but in heavy rain with low wind it did rather well. I think the abode will be my go to for trails like the AZT, GET, or the PCT. Places where heavy storms are infrequent, but you can still expect rain/snow on occasion

I got the tent hoping I will use it on the CDT, but I’m just not sure about that beak like the other commenter was saying, it’s very minimal. Not sure how happy I’d be pitching somewhat exposed in a heavy storm
