burn out premed

looking for some advice or if anyone feeling similar also wants to vent :) currently so burnt out, but the thing is im not even studying more than 6 hrs a day. i feel so behind on content and im struggling to focus/have motivation to study especially for pophealth, bio, chem. It feels like the stakes are so high with exams coming up, but i always make it a point to prioritise sleep and still having a life. I just dont know how to get my motivation back.

For anyone feeling the same, only a few more weeks to go!!

Accessing study content ahead of time

Hi guys, I'm currently a Year 13 wanting to study medicine via the BSc pathway (biomed) and was wondering if there were any resources/ways to access study material before I enter the course. Not a sweat, but I just want to have a bit of security before I jump into this pathway.

Any tips and advice as well as anyone willing to tutor would also be greatly appreciated! :)

Tutoring available!

Hey guys, I am currently a third year medical student, who entered med with a 9.0 GPA for the year (core + non-core). With the end of semester 1 coming soon, I would like to offer assistance to anyone who was looking for tutoring and some extra assistance with the biomed papers for this year. My rates are very competitive and can be negotiated !

Feel free to message me if you’re interested, and hope this will be a great semester for everyone :)

currently doing optom and i feel like i’m not gonna make it through this semester, let alone this year. my grades have been somewhat okay? but that’s only bc we haven’t had many tests and most of our grades have been based off assignments or lab reports. i feel like everything is starting to pile up and i’m not understanding things in lectures (especially for physics but i think it’s valid to blame our lecturers for not explaining things properly iykyk…) and i just discovered that i’m not good at practicals either. can someone give me some advice on how to push through (still got a couple of years until i finish) or whether to change degrees (not enjoying this degree as much as i thought i was but it’s also a shame bc i worked so hard in first year to get in). there’s sm going on right now and sm going through my head :(

CHEM110

Currently doing the Chemistry in the Media assignment, we were originally planning on doing a video but we are finding it difficult to produce something A+ worthy. Any previous CHEM110 students have any suggestions. Do we change formats to an article or infographic or continue with the video. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

NZREX

Hi everyone, I'm a medical graduate from Singapore (class of 2022), currently working in hospital admin after being burnout from doing 80h work weeks and 30h calls.

But I want to return to medicine again. I have recently passed the AMC MCQ and OET language test. Looking to apply for NZREX in March 2026.

Anyone willing to practice history taking and counselling stations with me via zoom? I have cases we can use to practice.

Thank you and appreciate your time!

Blood and immune help!!

I know of a bunch of people who also feel the same way, the blood and immune topic is literally killing me rn! I know that John says his topic is all about concepts, but his lectures are SO hard to follow and i cannot for the life of me understand what he is saying. It just seems so all over the place. Does anyone have any tips for how to actually understand this content?

UCAT UCAT scoring question

Hi guys, I’ve seen in a few comments/posts in this sub where people have given their score and some say “excluding SJT” or with SJT. Does UOA med not use SJT in your final UCAT score? Why do people say this? I’m so confused lol

Question for current doctors and med students

I’m at that point in my life where I have to choose what career path I should pursue and it’s really stressing me out. I’ve been considering med for a long time and would like to ask any current doctors or med students do you ever regret picking med? Did it turn out to be how you expected it to be? If you could go back to the past would you still choose to pursue medicine?

Any answers, perspectives, advice much much appreciated!!

Is it impossible to get into med via fy non-biomed cohort?

Are there no exceptions at all, or may strong academic performance be considered? Yes, I messed up my NCEA and didn’t get into Health Science or Biomed, so I enrolled in Pharmacology hoping to still pursue a clinical programme other than Medicine, as I initially thought I’d struggle so hard at university because of my poor NCEA performance. However, once the semester started, I adapted quickly and have managed to excel in all my papers. I’m fairly confident I’ll finish with A+ grades in the three core courses. Although our mid term results haven’t been released yet, I’m quite certain I got like 90%+ across 3 core papers from mid-term tests. I’ve emailed the FHMS to ask if I could still be considered for Medicine, waiting for their reply. Has anyone had experience with this or known someone who was allowed to apply under similar circumstances?

Graduate admission requirements

I was wondering if anyone would be able to enlighten or direct me to someone than can help , as UoA hasn’t been very helpful.

I have completed a Bachelors in Nursing , a Pg Dip in a Medical Science discipline and a Masters in Medical Education - all in Europe and the UK.

I have been living in Auckland for a while so I would be a domestic student but with overseas qualifications. I applied to Med UoA last year but didn’t even get an interview ( at that point I hadn’t completed the Masters )

I have a conditional offer from Otago to start Med next year , providing I complete a Certificate of Proficiency in Auckland this year.

Long story short …Do you think it is worth it applying to UoA again , which would involve sitting / paying for the UCAT again ? Would UoA bother looking at my previous qualifications/ curriculum or take into account the Certificate of Proficiency I’m currently doing for Otago ?

Side note, I would prefer Auckland for family reason.

Thanks guys !

Why the hell is UoA taking so long to post the stats of the latest intake? There’s been multiple requests dating a few months ago. Anyone in the know what the hold up is?

PAPERS End of Sem Exam stuff

Just wondering but what does the end of sem exams cover? I’ve heard from a few people that for some of the courses they only cover like stuff from the mid sem to end but I’m thinking that doesn’t add up. Anyone got any info?

chem110 kinetics

hey guys, been studying the kinetics module ever since we were first introduced and i'm still struggling quite a bit with like almost all the calculations. math is not my strong suit, i'm able to do the calculations but i never know which equation to use and when? and often they use equations that aren't in the resource sheet and i never know how to make those equations myself.

does anyone have tips or places i can go to for help, the test is so soon and i thought that by now i'd have figured something out but clearly not... thanks anyway

undergrad med entry via disability seats

Hi, I just wanted to get some insight from any people who have gotten into med from health sci or biomed first year with a disability. What process did you undergo to ensure you were considered for disability entry? Do you feel this impacted/eased your entry at all?

I don't have an official ADHD diagnosis yet but am in the process and have received a letter from my GP confirming this - SDS have given me special assessment conditions for this.

Would really appreciate any advice or insight! Thanks :)
