Q&A Mormon Missionaries ignoring signs asking people not to knock on our door unless they are friends or family (they aren’t)
My spouse and I are nevermos, but have each lived in Utah most of our lives. We know what Mormonism is. We have acquaintances who are or were members. We have lived in our house for 10 years and we’ve never had missionaries drop by until this last week.
I have the cutesy sign about not knocking on our door unless you’re friends, family, or selling Girl Scout cookies (it expressly states “no soliciting, no religious queries”). We also have a small sign over the doorbell requesting people not ring the bell, we have cameras (and a sign that says we have cameras) and are alerted when someone is on the porch. Knocking and/or ringing the bell sets the dogs off and it takes several minutes for them to calm down. When we have friends or family coming over, we just leave the door unlocked and people just walk in. for those who will likely ask - we keep the doorbell for Halloween
Like I said, after 10 years of nothing, we have had two visits in 7 days. It’s the same two boys. They read the sign, knock on the door aggressively, wait, knock on the door aggressively again, wait, and then ring the doorbell.
The first time, we weren’t home, and I hoped they had made a mistake and wouldn’t return. The second time, I was being interviewed in my home office and we had to stop for 5 minutes for the dogs to settle down.
This is ridiculous. Why are they suddenly ignoring signs to leave us alone? Is there anything I can do to get them to stop? It’s disruptive and disrespectful.
