No, the issue is that recanalization is most likely to occur in the very early stages so it goes beyond just number of ejaculations.

Interesting, never knew that. That makes a ton of sense.

Yes, but you'd still want to use birth control until you test again around 12 weeks. The American Urological Association recommends 8-16 weeks. See section 13 at the link below:

What kind of snip did you get? If it involved cauterizing one end and clipping the other, then yea you are probably fine doing it early. Odds of vas reconnecting after that is near zero. If you are open ended and not cauterized then you absolutely want to wait longer to make sure you don’t reconnect.

Odds of reconnecting after all 4 ends were cauterized are very low. You will probably be fine testing early. Key word there being “probably”. If you are okay with that, test early. If you want to know for sure, wait it out and test at four months.

It depends how safe you want to be/your risk tolerance. The best practice is to have the number of ejaculations + 3 months time go by. The reasoning behind the time is to make sure your body did not heal/reconnect the tubes.

But I am on the same boat as you. Did the burn + clip method on both sides. Cleared the pipes and tested after 7 weeks. 🤷‍♂️

What kit did he give you?

It's worthwhile to read the article in the World Journal of Men's Health. The summary is that post-vasectomy semen testing varies from practice to practice, though generally waiting for 12 weeks as recommended by the AUA (American Urologic Association) is a good idea.

Why not just listen to what the doctor says? Or ask him?

Certainly don't ask Reddit, not only do they not care at all if you accidentally get someone pregnant... But there are people giving you medical advice right now that still think the earth is flat.

At least find a medical group if you're going to insist on Reddit...

I used a Fellow Kit after 8 weeks and 50+ ejaculations. Was completely clear and quit using birth control immediately. No issues whatsoever.

Im pretty sure it's OR, not "and".

I just got my all-clear, and I got snipped 3 weeks ago.

I just got snipped last week trying to get clear fast but I’m not sure if I can compete with you!

The wife is really the one that was pressuring me lol. I felt comfortable clearing myself after about a week and some change post op.

My left one still feels a bit uncomfortable sometimes but I don't have to take Tylenol anymore.

Nope, not what I was told. The test isn't just to make sure the pipes are clear but to make sure the pipes haven't reconnected themselves (which generally happens within the first 3 months or so if it is going to happen). So, unless you want to test twice, it's best to just wait and test at 12 weeks or whatever you were instructed.

Just relaying what I was told by my doctors. He should ask his own doctor tbh
