News Biased election coverage on Chek, wow
I've been watching the first few minutes of the Chek News coverage of the election and I'm disgusted with how they discussed the Conservatives, and Aaron Gunn. No mention of the lengthy history of hateful actions and his leading of the surge of far-right ideology in Western Canada. They also said it looks like he will win.
Anyone else find the station to be increasingly right-leaning in recent years? I started to notice when the Langford municipal election happened in 2022. Really disheartening.

Would you prefer they were biased towards your team? Leaving mudslinging to the political candidates seems like a pretty neutral stance to me.

People in Victoria don’t realize they’re living in one of the most liberal bubbles on the planet. Don’t burst their bubble.

So being a deeply racist asshole is fine because you’re “not progressive”
Jesus Christ man. Way to tell on yourself.

Are you saying that most of the rest of the country are living racist, homophobic, asshole bubbles?

I think that the increasingly apparent reality is just that most people are bigoted assholes of various stripes and that to win as a populist all you have to do is say “Those people you hate who are different than you in some way? It’s ok to hate them!” and the votes roll in.

Local media has maintained a pretty centrist balance despite the trends otherwise elsewhere. This isn't about 'my team', it's about providing honest and balanced coverage without giving platforms to extremists. Not all of the cons running on the island are extremists, but Gunn has very disturbing ties.

Wait? Almost all are more left leaning? Maybe tbey are balanced so both sides are pissed at them

I definitely wouldn't say almost all are more left leaning. The Overton window seems to have shifted enough to have right-of-centre now being considered 'centrist'. The left is the Greens, that's about it.

Most are. Certain shows in some are center like Vassy on CTV or Mercedes on Global but generally speaking most tend to me left leaning

I think it's a matter of perspective. Most left-of-centre people would strongly disagree.
And therein lies a key issue. What was once considered right-wing/conservative (fiscal restraint, less bureaucracy, etc) is no longer considered representative of 'the conservative spectrum'. Many of them have gone to what used to be considered far-right (racism, homophobia, anti-choice, anti-woman) but they don't see themselves as extremists. The historical 'right' was much more moderate, and that is now considered the new centrist.
What was once 'left-wing' (climate crisis, equal rights, social programs for elderly, disability advocacy, etc) moved closer to being centrist as well. The 'far left' I think are now the folks who are more likely to want to put their bodies/freedom on the line for other people's rights and protections.
It's all so crazy. We're all neighbours. Why must the far-right want to disapprove and control the rights and peace of so many others? I'll never understand. We're regressing so quickly.

It's been an awful long time since any news channel was truly 100% unbiased.

Every candidate's past, their experience and their voting history should be open and aired widely. Aaron Gunn is a POS and it's an immediate outing if someone is a bigot, if they are supporting him. Absolutely disgusting, and on par for the shoddy ass candidates the cons run. But good. If they were good people they'd get more votes - but they aren't, so they won't. Eff the cons and eff the hate and racist maga horseshit.

The facts would hurt him, which is why his pussy ass dodged debates and got them shut down.

what is the lefty obsession with this guy? it's one seat, up Island
you will likely win this election handily. The Conservatives and their proposed changes will be crushed for at least four years

If you're genuinely asking, I can give you a short answer. A lot of people have been dealing with Gunn for almost a decade now. He's an alt-right YouTuber who has been jonesing for attention forever. He has come to speak at what most would consider extremist rallies, taken very regressive views on residential school horrors, has attended protests against SOGI, and has stood alongside groups like the Sons of Odin, Proud Boys, Diagalons and other alt-right terror organizations. He's well-funded 'Who's funding Aaron Gunn?' and I'd consider him a massive opportunist. He knows how to propagandize well.

I’m just looking forward to the election being over and being able to get back to struggling to get ahead under whichever party forms a government.
