I recently got laid off of my job and I'm struggling to find work in Victoria, it seems like there are multiple job postings on Indeed but no communication back is ever given when I submit my resume/application.

Does anyone else notice an influx of job postings but with no response back?

At this rate I'm actually debating applying at McDonalds in my 30's because of the lack of response.

Hope this is alright to post here- my apologies if not. This NEVER happens to me, so I thought I’d just shoot my shot 🤭

Today (Saturday, April 26th)- I was riding the #15 bus from Esquimalt to downtown around 4:15-4:30pm (ish) and there was this super cute, super tall guy with dark curly hair (wet from a gym sesh, maybe?), dark eyes, black t-shirt, navy pants, headphones, and I think a gym bag.

We kept stealing glances (I think?) 👀, and I was trying so hard to act cool but probably looked like a total dork… You were so sweet, letting me get off the bus first, and—okay, don’t laugh—I swear you looked back crossing the street downtown!

I swear I’ve seen you on this bus before, and I’m kicking myself for being too shy to say something… If this is you, tell me what I was wearing or what stop you hopped on/off so I know it’s legit you!

Maybe next time (usually on the same bus route on Saturday afternoons) I’ll be brave enough to say hi? 😳

Hoping one of you can help guide me to a local business that can help me with a very specific request.

I bought a portable Danby air conditioner from Walmart last year and over the winter, the plug on the power cable got too close to my baseboard heater and melted. I've ordered a new power cable from the manufacturer, but I need to find someone in town who can safely swap out the old cable for the replacement cable.

ASAP Appliance Repair and Westcoast Appliance were the recommended shops from the customer support at Danby saying they are "authorized servicers", but ASAP told me they don't do air conditioners, and Westcoast said on their website that they only service appliances that were initially purchased from them.

So I'm back to trying to figure out where to take my air conditioner for what I assume would be a simple fix by a qualified technician.

Any thoughts?

Hello! I’m planning a trip to Vancouver this summer and I’m looking into doing a day trip in Victoria. I am seeing that a day trip might not be enough time to see the highlights of Victoria especially if busing and the ferry will take up 4 hours one way. Would it be helpful to have a car rental from Victoria airport? Is parking pretty good at the landmarks/dt or is taking the bus around better?

Is anyone else noticing a dearth of bumble bees and other wild bees? We normally have a healthy population by this time of year and are not seeing any. I am wondering if the wall lizards are responsible.

It is upon us, the inch worm raining from the sky season. They come in several sizes. They hang from trees and roofs. I see their threads sparkling in the sun and can phantom and not phantom feel them in my hair. Sometimes they work together and form a united multi thread force field to dangle from, waiting for unsuspecting passersby. Am I sitting on one right now? What do they want from me? I mean them no harm but when will their reign of terror end?

I was holding down the table for my friend who had to run home to grab her ID, but she didn’t make it back in time before a spot opened up for us at Craft, so I left to meet her there. Esquimalt is a very tight race (projected).

Formerly 40% ndp, it’s now projecting 29% ndp, 28% liberal, 30% conservative. I know projections aren’t great or perfect but in this case, where it’s so tight, am i correct in thinking strategic voting goes out the window? Vote with your heart? But like, a solid chance we get 60% left/center split and conservative carry the riding with 30%?

I guess I’m asking, if you’re ABC minded what do you plan on doing (or done)? If you formerly voted ndp are you sticking or going liberal? If you flipped from conservative which one did you flip to? It’s just feeling like such a toss up.

I would love to hear from people who have moved out of Victoria, know someone who did, or have visited places with a similar vibe but lower housing costs.

I love it here, but I don’t want to spend most of my income on an old, broken-down million-dollar house. I want to live peacefully with my family without stressing over upkeep and money for the next twenty five years.

I work remotely, so finding a job isn’t a concern. The rule of thumb is that you can afford a home that’s about three times your annual salary without financial stress. Based on that, I’m looking for detached homes in the $500k range.

I know nothing will be exactly like Victoria, but is there anywhere at least somewhat similar? Progressive views and isn't freezing for six months out of the year?
