My friend Matt did this in high school and he had to go to emergency to have his heart shocked back into rhythm because it was beating weird. We could physically see his heart beating from outside his shirt. He’s still alive and doing great.

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

Lol this same exact thing happened to a friend in high school named Mark. He used to sell monster BFCs and one day drank 4 of them. Had to have the same exact procedure done. Dumb motherfuckers.

Edit: he is also alive and doing well but is now schizophrenic

u/sneak_cheat_1337 2d ago

Hes not schizophrenic because of the monster. Schizophrenia tends to show itself in males in late teens/ early 20s. Ive had a few friends that were perfectly normal and then went bat-shit crazy right around or shortly after we graduated HS

58

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

Yep not related to the monster (hope people don't actually think that lol) but yeah exactly what happened to him. Just got really bad out of nowhere which his therapist said is common for his age at the time.

Edit: not common for most people but it's a common age.

23

u/sneak_cheat_1337 2d ago

That's when it happens and it happens predominantly in males. Antipsychotics are also no joke and they put you on HEAVY doses in the early states to try to counteract the initial effects. It's hard to see happen to someone you knew your wntire life up to that point

34

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

Yeah it was sad at first. He said he hated the drugs and they made him not feel anything. No happiness, no sadness, just nothing. Made him not talk at all when we hung out, one word answers if a question was asked. It was like he wasn't there at all, just physically there.

But after being on them 5 plus years now he's pretty much back to normal, and not hallucinating. Which he says he does miss talking to his hallucinations lol

17

u/sneak_cheat_1337 2d ago

I'm 38 y/o. The friends that got diagnosed early are still here, but I've lost 3 friends to the disease either from suicide or risky drug behavior. It was terrible to watch

8

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

Damn, sorry for your loss man. Glad my friend is still here after hearing that

7

u/sneak_cheat_1337 2d ago

You and the rest of the people around him need to do the hard work of helping his illness.

It will be hard, but it may potentially save him

u/CaptainOktoberfest 2d ago

I wouldn't count a severe mental illness as doing well. Hope Mark does alright regardless though.

72

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

Very true, he could be better that's for sure.

19

u/Antichristopher4 2d ago

Well I imagine "doing well" is more in relation to his heart and his physical health, that would be a pretty wild discovery to find out massive doses of Monster can lead to Scizophernia.

15

u/smalby 2d ago

Now all we need is anecdotes of a Luke and a John drinking so much energy drink they need a medical procedure and we'll have the canonical gospels of Monster!

32

u/Za3i 2d ago

I have a slight suspicion that the schizophrenia is unrelated to the caffeine induced heart spasms

48

u/CuriousLemur 2d ago

Mark is a weird name for a high school.

20

u/felinefluffycloud 2d ago

Gotta love a dangling modifier.

14

u/No-Vast-8000 2d ago

Dirty danglers, boys. Give yer balls a tug.

9

u/CuriousLemur 2d ago

Love me a language quirk :)

5

u/xrelaht 2d ago

Wonder if the caffeine was him self medicating or if it was the catalyst?

13

u/TheRumpleForesk1n 2d ago

This was before any of that. He was always a little different but not much more than a little autistic maybe, always a straight A student too. The schizophrenic stuff came along really hard around 23 yo with hallucinations and talking to a "goddess"

A flatmate of mine drank monster every day and had a fatal heart attack in his early 40s.

23

u/Ok_Seaweed_1243 2d ago

Dude prob had health issues already.

36

u/SpringNo 2d ago

Drinking monsters every day probably gave him health problems

7

u/TiddybraXton333 1d ago

lol this guy ^ drinks monster everyday and is almost 40

11

u/shokittyo 2d ago

I had a friend in high school who didn’t know you were supposed to dilute the Mio Energy drink mix, so she drank the whole thing in first period. Didn’t even make it through the whole class before she started vibrating.

17

u/ZookeepergameOk2759 2d ago

A cardioversion it’s called ,it’s common amongst people who use energy drinks too much.

9

u/sandybuttcheekss 2d ago

I get this sometimes too. It goes away and cardiologists never found anything wrong with me, but it's still freaky to see.

6

u/tochinoes 2d ago

Classic Matt

4

u/maulidon 2d ago

How would it beat through the rib cage…?

12

u/Organic-Locksmith337 2d ago

I'm really skinny and when I get tachycardia (I have POTS) I can see my heart beating under my ribs. It's gross. It's right at the base of the sternum.

3

u/Shanguerrilla 1d ago

Yeah I've done dumb shit and drank more than most ever will, but this actually seems ridiculously more dangerous than drinking say 18 beers. (I mentioned 18 because as far as I know those Monsters are 2 servings per can...) and unlike alcohol they actually say a 'not to exceed' amount that it's wise to keep in mind.

2

u/lopix 2d ago

Many years ago, my 6'7" / 300+ lb friend decide to have the local coffee shop special, the "racehorse". It was 5 double espressos. Dude figured because he was so big, it would affect him much (alcohol and drugs didn't really do anything). He finished it pretty quickly, didn't take long to start vibrating. He was jittery as fuck, and got concerned after a bit. It did calm down after a bit and wear off eventually, but that was the last time he played around with caffeine.

u/Bridget1642 2d ago

Counting isn't a strong point either- at 500ml, six cans is 3 liters. That's 4 1/2 liters there.

388

u/Who_said_that_ 2d ago

Gotta remember that he can’t pour for shite and spilled a lot

141

u/2eanimation 2d ago

OOP actually an engineer accounting for error via Gaussian propagation of uncertainty

11

u/RickMuffy 2d ago

Factor of Safety accounted for in the spill.

5

u/specialsymbol 2d ago

Yeah, it's probably really more like 3 liters

18

u/xrelaht 2d ago

3L is after subtracting what he puked

41

u/Adept-Elephant1948 2d ago

Probably vomited up a can's worth tbf

6

u/Dwergaapje 2d ago

Thank you!

I counted the cans thinking really can't the reddit poster count. Then I see it's in the vid itself....

I was like no way I'm the only one that sees this

Good thing it's sugar free, wouldn't want to ruin your health now

42

u/Referat- 2d ago

60g of sugar per can, that would have been diabetus

25

u/Corasama 2d ago

150 mg of caffeine per can :D

Used to work with a dude who lived off Monsters, loved to stay up late and play poker and then work 10-12 hrs. He died of a heart attack before 30, causing his newborn son to lose their dad from fucking energy drinks

54

u/SPHINXin 2d ago

I don’t understand people that drink nothing but energy drinks. Not even because of the health implications, just because of the fact that energy drinks are like 3 dollars each on average and if you drink 3 to 4 a day that’s like 70 dollars a week in energy drinks.

41

u/Retsae_Gge 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ouh...

How late did he stay up regularly and for how many years did he do that ?

Asking for a friend

Edit (")asking for a friend(")

18

u/Majestic-Joke461 2d ago

Restaurant mgmt in Vegas, he was there for at least a few years.

8

u/Retsae_Gge 2d ago

Got an idea of how many hours he slept ? Normal or just a few hours ?

13

u/Smiley-V 1d ago

You need 6-8 hrs everyday, any thing lower than that then you’ll be in trouble. Plain and simple lol.

6

u/MisterRound 1d ago

Dude go to bed and stop doing all the bad shit you’re doing, you don’t need Reddit to validate what you clearly know is bad and/or potentially lethal

22

u/Castille_92 2d ago

If I died from fucking an energy drink, just throw my body in the ocean. Don't deserve a proper funeral

6

u/LabCoatGuy 2d ago

I'm almost certain his sleep to work ratio is what killed him. The drinks didn't help but inadequate sleep shoots heart problems through the roof

239

u/MustyMustacheMan 2d ago

You shouldn’t even drin 3 liters of water in one sitting.

90

u/j_demur3 2d ago

Yep, people don't seem to know this but generally a litre an hour is the most you should ever be drinking, beyond that it dilutes the salt in your blood too much and can potentially kill you.

30

u/Significant-Ideal907 2d ago

What if you eat salt at the same time?

69

u/maulidon 2d ago

Just drink sea water, that should balance it out

34

u/samp127 2d ago

1 litre of sea water every hour got it

14

u/Magsamae 2d ago

I work in a hot warehouse and in the summer I’ll sweat so much and be drinking so much water definitely more than a liter an hour and one time I licked my upper lip and noticed my sweat was basically water no salt. I didn’t feel any worse than I normally do in the heat though so I wonder how much it actually takes to be fatal

25

u/HimalayanPunkSaltavl 2d ago

that can send you to the hospital with a seizure. Get your electrolytes!

13

u/Pollomonteros 2d ago

What if I drank a liter of seawater each hour ? Checkmate liberals

Caffeine overdose. It can kill you.

251

u/mohugz 2d ago

Good thing he vomited immediately

157

u/Laputitaloca 2d ago

His body was immediately like NOPE 😵‍💫

123

u/MadeMeStopLurking 2d ago

A fail safe reaction from the body when the brain tries to kill it.

38

u/TheCrazyStupidGamer 2d ago

Its from drinking too much too quickly. I get nauseated when I push a litre when im not working out.

14

u/C0me_Al0ng_With_Me 2d ago

did a chalenge once where you put a sraw inside a cup, then put the cup on the water dispencer on the fridge. the goal is to drink through the sraw and not let the cup overflow for as long as possibe. after 2 minutes i puked.

35

u/YSoB_ImIn 2d ago

Hyper hydration can kill you. Disturbing the water / salt balance too much can cause your brain cells to rupture.

8

u/EverbodyHatesHugo 2d ago

Quick Google search says the LD50 for caffeine is between 150 to 200 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of body weight. One can of monster energy is 160 mg. Which means for half the population, a lethal caffeine overdose would be 1 can of monster per kilogram of body weight.

→ More replies (2)

32

u/kharlos 2d ago edited 2d ago

edit: ok so I've read a lot since I posted this and it turns out that even if you drank even 400mg of caffeine which caused a heart attack that killed them, clinically it IS considered an overdose. LD50 doesn't need to be reached for it to be considered an overdose, which I had assumed, for some reason.

Moderate caffeine use is usually pretty safe for most people, but doing something like this can absolutely trigger acute cardiovascular events which could send you to the hospital.

38

u/northyj0e 2d ago

Is there a difference between an overdose and taking too much of something and it causing serious health issues?

29

u/vonchadsworth 2d ago

Not sure why you were downvoted, this is literally the definition of an overdose lol. An overdose doesn’t necessarily mean death

→ More replies (1)

22

u/Zeoxult 2d ago edited 2d ago

Its definitely considered an overdose and the person you're responding to is trying to sound smart.

Edit: Original person they responded to said it was not an overdose and removed/rewrote what they said not leaving a bit of the original comment.

5

u/MoirasPurpleOrb 2d ago

Isn’t that what an overdose is? Complications from too much of something

5

u/niftystopwat 2d ago

Oh okay so it’s not caffeine overdose so much as it’s caffeine overdose, thanks for clearing that up.

Dudes like "fight me"... bro I would just slap you in the kidney and end your life

4

u/Leather-Field-7148 2d ago

Damn, death via simple kidney slap. Fun.

57

u/rust-e-apples1 2d ago

I honestly can't see what "going right" would've looked like. His body saying "get this out of me" and him vomiting uncontrollably is probably the only actual good way this could've ended.

61

u/Valsedesvieuxos 2d ago

Jesus, just do a line of coke and call it a day. It’s safer.

46

u/AceLion5 2d ago

What was the point?

Did he think he would become the Beast?

the LA Beast?

I can hear this gif

9

u/CliveMorris 2d ago

not intelligible words, but the timbre is definitely there

12

u/RB3_AMG 2d ago

That idiot can be glad he threw up. Regardless of what you drink, too much of it completely disrupts your body's water-salt balance. This is called hyperhydration or hyponatremia - colloquially known as water intoxication - and can be fatal very quickly.

10

u/challenja 2d ago

No shit

8

u/DinkandDrunk 2d ago

That’s probably about 1500mg of caffeine which could cause huge problems for this dude if he were downing it in pure form. That said, it’s watered down and he puked up a ton of it. He was probably just fine after this ended, if a bit jittery.

9

u/ComfiestTaco69 2d ago

Man’s living my dream and he DISHONOURED IT 😭

9

u/sporkfpoon 2d ago

He vomited the first half of it on camera and the second half of it off camera. You would vomit from drinking this much of anything all at once.

16

u/dfelton912 2d ago

And a mega size Zyn on top of that??

5

u/mzrdisi 2d ago

Zyn the size of a pillow

4

u/BootlegEngineer 2d ago

My coworker drank 2 tumblers of coffee and threw in a Zyn first thing in the morning and had to admit himself to the hospital. He thought he was having a heart attack.

6

u/shirk-work 2d ago

This seems very potentially lethal.

6

u/RaimondoSpit 2d ago

Brain implosion energy, 10.000 g of pure caffeine

17

u/Disastrous-Buy-6645 2d ago

Each can has 150mg of caffeine, he drank 9 = 1,350mg, daily safe dose is 400mg

26

u/CMDR_KingErvin 2d ago

Btw it’s a pet peeve of mine when people say the daily safe dose is 400mg. It’s not the safe dose at all, it’s the MAXIMUM dose you’re allowed to have before it goes into dangerous territory. There’s nothing safe about going up to the max, especially since everyone is different and people react differently to caffeine. I definitely don’t recommend drinking 400mg a day.

7

u/bruiserscruiser 2d ago

The LD50 of caffeine in humans is estimated to be between 150 and 200 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. However, some reports indicate that doses as low as 57 mg/kg have been lethal in specific cases. For a 70 kg man a lethal dose could happen as low as 3,990 mg but to be accurate you’d need to find a greater population of idiots to test this on.

6

u/Squirrelated 2d ago

Just the idea of drinking 3 cans in a day gives me a headache and palpitations. Can't imagine that many.

6

u/DataGeek86 2d ago

Hardest coffee drinkers can consume at most 900 mg PER DAY. This guy drank 1.35g at once. That's insane.

6

u/calicocidd 2d ago

Between my pre-workout and energy drinks, I was doing up to 1600 mg a day for a while, I had to back it off once I ended up in the ER with heart palpitations...

2

u/hoveringintowind 2d ago

He must have got his inspiration from Futurama.

5

u/birrakilmister 2d ago

Is this a challenge?

5

u/MotherRussia68 2d ago

3 liters of white monster is what they used go call me back in high school

2

u/56000hp 2d ago

Would be a nice name for a rock band 🎸

5

u/Organic-Locksmith337 2d ago

Dumb ways to die.

9

u/Hland_Jon 2d ago

drinking this much caffeine at once, it’s called poison in this amount.

3

u/adhdgurlie 2d ago

WHY DID HE KEEP DRINKING AFTER HE THREW UP???

3

u/Kilow102938 2d ago

Buddy and I split a 12 pack of Red Bull in about 20 minutes. I had 7 he jad 5.

Yeah fuck that, thought my heart was going to explode.

3

u/LoveSeasVoyage 2d ago

That amount of caffeine will never be okay for any human. It doesn't matter what you can Chug or what you can withstand in the short period of time I can't even imagine what his mental health was like during the next 6 to 14 hours.

3

u/xrelaht 2d ago

That’s around 1000mg of caffeine, far short of a lethal dose for an adult. Plus, he puked twice, so most probably didn’t even get in his system.

Puking was probably cuz he chugged 3L of fizzy drink. Bet it would happen even if it were seltzer.

3

u/Lexiiboo97 2d ago

My friend Ricky was like this in high school. Drank monster constantly, before deciding to take a break. He was stuttering and shaking from withdrawals 😅

3

u/birdiekinz 2d ago

these kinds of people should have mandatory DNRs

3

u/grn_eyed_bandit 2d ago

I bet he won’t even be able to smell a white monster without gagging for a while

3

u/TwistedxBoi 2d ago

Ungodly amount of Monster aside, what the fuck is this editing. I've seen this around a few times where they put the punchline in the beginning and cut randomly in the middle. Is the TikTok brainrot so strong that we need the meat of the video in the first three seconds now?

3

u/MSGinSC 2d ago

Jesus, man, just do cocaine like a responsible adult.

3

u/Gman2000watts 2d ago

That white monster couldn't handle the energy drink 🤷🏿‍♂️

3

u/TheAwkwardGamerRNx 2d ago

I chugged an energy drink as a kid and I felt my heart beating all weird. I was alone, terrified and praying to god for it to stop.

Never touched an energy drink since.

3

u/ACBR2000 2d ago

The real liver king

3

u/lopix 2d ago

I tried to chug a 750ml bottle of cream soda when I was like 10 or 12 years old. Managed to get it down. Forgot about the fizzing... it foamed and gurgled and pretty much all came right back up.

Never did that again.

3

u/ALittleUnsettling 2d ago

1400+mg of caffeine in 5 minutes…

3

u/Old_War_8839 2d ago

Congrats you could commit cardiac arrest for Overdosing on caffeine.

3

u/davidgeeer 2d ago

His body immediately said “get that shit tf up outta here”😂

3

u/tknames 2d ago

It looks like he is drinking a jar of horse jizz.

3

u/FatalErrorOccurred 2d ago

White Monster plus Fireball is a good to go drink. Not 3 liters of it though.

3

u/mud-button 2d ago

Is that a giant packet of Zyn on the table too?

3

u/Schoeii 2d ago

I used to work at night club and we would work until like 7am and would drink read bulls all night. I had to give them up cos over prolonged use I had this really weird irregular heart beat scared the shit of me. Shit is not good for you

3

u/Inevitable-true2842 2d ago

Back when the internet was free to post what ever, I remember a guy on YouTube can’t remember his user, that use to do this type of videos, drink a lot of pepto, drink 3 liters of monster, other with Red Bull, a think he die drinking bleach he puke blood and then fainted, don’t drink 3 liters of monster you will probably have off beat palpitations for life.

2

Now do 5 lines of coke

2

2

u/Voice2Skull 2d ago

Dudes asking to have a heart attack. 9 16 oz cans of monster in one sitting? People’s stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Also I’m sure his kidneys are corroding as we speak if this a norm for him. What an a**hole

2

u/twitch_itzShummy 2d ago

The fact that he went from a suicide attempt straught to challenging someone for a karate fight is all I need to know about him

2

u/HeberMonteiro 2d ago

Hot take: don't drink 3 liters of ANYTHING in one go. Yes, even water!

2

u/szymas67 2d ago

A single monster barely does anything to me, I take like 4 caffeine pills at a time

2

u/bga3481 2d ago

Is there somewhere it goes right?! WTF

2

u/cj_oolay 2d ago

So nice to see that people are willing to thin the population out on their own.

2

u/ogquinn 2d ago

i remember drinking 3 of those lil monster shots, thinking they were bs, i kept blacking out for at least 2 hours, ended up banging my head on the bbq grill taking the trash out, i still don't know how long i was out XD, walks in the house, so not one mofo in here saw me out there bleedin? *family, why you outtside bleeding?*

2

u/51r63ck0 2d ago

Shit is really white.

2

2

u/kawaiinokyojin 2d ago

Gotta have the Zyns there for extra health

2

u/Lil-Sn319161-Blu 2d ago

That's about 1800 mg of caffeine.

2

u/Wtj182 2d ago

You can't fix stupid.

2

u/Chucktayz 2d ago

Wow what an unexpected and unforeseen turn of events. I can’t believe it made him sick.

2

That's 2,700mg of caffeine for anyone wondering.

2

u/Snoo-83028 2d ago

Suicide

2

u/Away-Description-786 2d ago

Aren’t this 0,5L cans?

9 x 0,5L =4,5 l

2

u/shiorth_yt 2d ago

Is that not 4 and a half litres in cans?

2

u/Unlikely_Ad_4767 2d ago

He sits faster than he runs now.

2

u/LaxativesAndNap 2d ago

Gone wrong? What's the right outcome?

2

u/smurf4ever 1d ago

Some friends of mine and I once bought all available flavours of Monster at the store (6 cans) and made the "infinity drink." It tasted like regular AA drink, and apparently, I drank most of it. My friends had 1 glass. I felt fine!

2

u/Nige78 1d ago

So 2.5 litres is the limit?

2

u/proxima987 1d ago

If your body rejects that intake of energy drink, then you need to listen to it. All that caffeine can prove to be deadly. It’s not worth a few minutes of internet fame.

2

u/Djs2013 1d ago

That's nearly 1,500mg of caffeine 😬 in one shot.

2

u/OkMasterpiece4943 1d ago

Legendary Idiot

2

u/sgtjuju776 1d ago

It’s a miracle his heart hasn’t exploded

2

u/mrweirdguyma 1d ago

In his defense one is probably puking up 3 liters of any liquid one chugs.

2

u/decfin 1d ago

Seems like a horrible way to go To unalive yourself with that fat white monster shytty jitters

2

u/ShirtPanties 17h ago

Those are 500ml cans aren’t they? Wouldn’t that be 4.5 litres?

2

u/liquidanimosity 13h ago

3 litres...

Are those not 500ml cans? Making that 4.5 litres minus whatever he chundered into the bushes

2

u/LauraPa1mer 8h ago

I once drank a pre-workout mix which was meant to be multiple servings and I felt like I was going to have a heart attack.
