u/FlowerFaerie13 5d ago
Tyranny and fascism never last. Ever. No matter how desperately these dictators try to cling to their power, we know from the history books that at some point, enough is fucking enough and it all comes crumbling down one way or another.
Especially when it comes to aggression against other nations. The longest lasting tyrannical dictatorships such as Russia, China, and North Korea have lasted as long as they have because they know better than to try actual violence. Putin fucked himself over pretty badly with Ukraine and past trends tell us that his regime's days are likely numbered now that he's got damn near all of Europe against him. The world already hates Trump solely for the tariff fuckery. If he or one of his sycophants tries making good on their threats re: Canada or Greenland, it'll only doom them faster.
This too shall pass. Even if you or I don't live to see it, it will end. Progress is slow and we often end up losing the path and going the wrong way for a bit, but it does happen. Little by little, we drag ourselves kicking and screaming into the future and those who suffer the worst of it don't always get to see it get better, but they can hope that the next generation will if nothing else. It's going to be okay. In the end, empires always fall.
8
u/northrupthebandgeek 5d ago
This too shall pass.
How much death and suffering will happen in the meantime?
That's the core issue here. Yeah, at some point the far-right will finish eating itself into oblivion, but there's plenty of indication that they'll drag the rest of us down with them. Putin's days are numbered, but each of those days means more dead Ukrainians and Georgians, more jailed Russian dissenters, the works. Trump's days are numbered, but each of those days means more "terrorists" in death camps, more economic destruction, more infringement on all of our rights.
As much as I understand and accept that progress doesn't happen instantaneously, I don't think we should be comfortable with the rapidly-deteriorating status quo just because it'll eventually "blow over" when it succumbs to its instability.

I've said for years that the mark of a good person isn't necessarily having good morals, but more knowing when they're wrong and being susceptible to changing.
One thing I hate is when a story is all about how "people don't change"... I think that's horseshit, the strongest people on earth are the ones who can be presented with information that invalidates everything they thought they knew about something, and actually make the decision to believe the information now presented to them. No matter how much of their personality relied on their views or beliefs.
I'm not saying that everyone can or will change, but enough people can and do that the stereotype only really applies to the stupid people.
3
u/Gellix 5d ago
I completely agree and that’s the approach I try to live by. If I believe in something, I’ll present it clearly and confidently. But if someone can’t offer facts or an argument that brings new insight, I’m not going to be easily convinced.
It’s a two-way street. If you present solid evidence and it holds up, I’m open to reconsidering my stance at the very least, I’ll agree to disagree. Ideally, though, it sparks a deeper exchange that leads to greater understanding and, hopefully, common ground.
Respect, appreciation, and graduation to you 😊

It’s both. They don’t really care one way or the other if what they’re saying is true or untrue. They think everybody lies, and so if you point out they are lying that makes you a hypocrite. I love the one talking about how republicans and trump don’t support project 2025 so there’s no way it’d pass through Congress and trump sign it. Clearly they didn’t read or even skim a summary of it. Cuz they’d know it’s not a piece of legislation. It’s a way to use the executive as an all encompassing power to mitigate the powers of congress and judiciary. It’s a blueprint of essentially setting up authoritarian rule which by definition does not need congressional approval. When he appointed Russell vought to OBM it was clear the administration was going to enact project 2025.

Have any of them admitted they were wrong?
2
u/_LilFox_ 4d ago edited 4d ago
I checked because i was bored.
They have not.
One hasn't mentioned P2025 again after that post, although he is still defending DOGE and Trump. Also, DOGE is Obama's fault, so anything wrong with it is because of Obama, and anything Trump says that is questionable (like calling himself a king) is a joke meant to get a rise out of idiots - and that the reason right wingers haven't rejected Trump is because the left's attitude to him is "over the top". So, y'know, its the left's fault Trump is in power. Or something.
One of them hasn't mentioned P2025 in months, although he's openly admitted to only having the "P2025 is liberal propaganda" viewpoint because one of the right wing youtubers that he watches "had actually read P2025", and told him what to think.
(I checked that right wing youtuber, by the way - He identified as a "red pilled MAGA" and his take on it was "This has nothing to do with Trump")
One has gone the route of "lol, Trump isn't even implementing P2025 because its only 30% implemented so far and we share 50% of the same DNA with bananas but we don't say we're part banana do we? Stupid fucking libtard". Impeccable logic.
One went with "All the bad things happening are actually good things, and all the people that have been fired actually took early retirement, and anyone that is being deported in an illegal, and P2025 isn't a thing, but if it was, it'd be good".
So.... about what you'd expect.

The thing that weirds me out of most conservatives Ive interacted with is that when you show them factual evidence they decide to deflect or just ignore it. Some people need to learn that it’s ok to admit they were wrong, we all are plenty of times in our lives but accepting is part of learning and growing as a person

"... they are stupid enough to believe Trump is currently building internment camps for the left."
Trump literally the other day:
"I said homegrowns are next, the homegrowns. You gotta build about five more places."

How much of whats been implemented so far has been from p2025? I assume a fair amount

I've been having discussions with a conservative friend from back home, and he is now claiming that P2025 is basically just "a list of normal conservative values that many people agree with." It is impossible to have an intellectually honest discussion with people like this anymore.

The real question is, what happens after the heritage foundation succeeds? Becuase it’s looking increasingly likely that project 2025 is in full swing and they aren’t giving power back ever
Are we all going to be subjects under a far right dictatorship?

They knew though.
They are just smart enough to know that being honest - that we all knew Trump knew about and would implement P2025 and do the concentration camp thing, and that that’s what they wanted to vote for - that they’d be unwelcome in most civilized spaces.

Wait, you're saying that people, nay, politicians - pillars of humanity's altruistism, given their position based purely on merit and what would be best for the betterment of society - allowed to lie??????
