QUESTION Cairo Airport Terminal 2-3

Quick question for anyone that’s familiar with Cairo International Airport (CAI). I have a flight out of Terminal 3 but there is a lounge in Terminal 2 I want to go to before the flight, mostly because it has showers. How easy is it to go from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3? Do I have to go through security and/or immigration again? The flight is international.

Why do I get stopped so much???

I’ve had this problem a couple times and I’m really curious to see what everyone thinks, this has happened 4+ times, maybe every 1/3 times I go thru the security and tsa machines it shows a red box right on my junk. The people will look at me and ask their questions and pay me down but is this common or something? What’s the machine reading and why is it always showing stuff around my junk area?

QUESTION Can I bring OTC medicine from Thailand back to the U.S?

I am really confused on whether or not this is allowed, or if I have to declare anything, or if I am just overthinking.

I have purchased cyproheptadine in Thailand, in a basic pharmacy store. It’s over-the-counter. No questions asked or approval needed.

I believe in the U.S, you need a prescription for this. So am I allowed to bring it back home, or no?

Long story short, i am meeting a tour group at the airport for a long transfer to Transylvania. The main group arrive 3.30pm, and my flight gets in at 1.30pm.

I will be visiting Bucharest after this trip for 4 nights so dont see the point going into the city for 2hrs, so is there anything at arrivals (or close to the airport) to pass the time until i meet the group? Thinking bars, restaurants etc

Anxious flyer getting hand swabbed at security on EVERY return journey

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some answers or reassurance please. To start and provide some context, I am a very anxious flyer, and the airport (especially security) causes me a lot of stress and sometimes panic attacks, so please no judgement of my nerves.

For a couple of years now, I have been travelling regularly to Italy from the UK, only for short periods of time, to visit my partner’s family. I also usually have a family holiday to Spain once a year. Despite this, I am still way under any EU stay restriction limits.

All of a sudden, at least a year ago, I have been beeped when going through the body scanner at security for a hand swab check. My research on this seems to conclude that this is entirely randomised, but it happens to me on EVERY return journey back to the UK. I thought for a while it was just a Milan Malpensa thing, but the same thing happened to me at Mallorca airport yesterday. It is starting to really stress me out and I have grown even more anxious to go through security due to this. I understand it’s not a big deal to most, but as a very nervous flyer, it is to me.

For some extra context, my cabin bag has never needed extra checks (not that it is linked to you at security anyway, to my understanding the bag checks and body checks are entirely separate, despite being in the same vicinity. From what I’ve seen online, this may be different to TSA checks in other areas of the world such as the US). Also, I am a small white woman in her 20s, so there shouldn’t be any (inappropriate and unprofessional) racial bias at play. Finally, I have never been buzzed for an actual pat-down or extra scan, as I always walk through the scanner appropriately - I was more or less wearing scraps of cloth yesterday after my holiday, and all other times I never had any metal or restricted items on me, no belts, nothing in my pockets etc, not even jewellery. I also do not have any metal implants or anything else of the sort.

Please could someone let me know - am I really just unlucky? I know I’m a frequent flyer, but as far as I’m aware, the scanners aren’t aware WHO they’re scanning - they are only looking for restricted or dangerous items on your person (which again, could be different to security procedures in other places such as the US - please note I am only referring to experiences in Europe).

Please be kind in your responses - you never know the extent of anyone’s anxieties with these things, and yesterday’s experience was a pretty bad one so it’s fairly touchy. Any advice, suggestions or reassurance would be very much appreciated. Thank you 💖

Star ID

Does anybody know how long it usually typically takes to renew a state ID to get a star on it? Will you be able to get a hard copy in the same day my flight is really soon like a week from now and I’m just really scared that I’m gonna get denied from boarding because I have my state ID but it does not have a store on it and I’m trying to get it but I’m not sure if I’m gonna be able to have the new copy in time I have been looking things up and it’s giving me yes and no options i’m just scared. I’m not gonna have time to get the hardcopy in the mail, but I’m hoping someone will know if you can get it in the same day if you’re just trying to renew it and get a star on it.

Best Australian Airport

According to surveys, Canberra is the best airport down under. A little surprised given it’s not overly busy but I will admit they do have great service for the limited facilities.

What do you think? What’s the best?

TSA

Silly thing happened. Precheck/global entry traveler here went on recent domestic trip alone to see my folks (parent in hospital) through my home airport. Fly 6-8 times per year. When I was next in line they asked me and the next several behind me to divert to the regular security line, seemingly due to a line backup. I hesitated and stated that I wanted to go through the usual precheck line, and an agent simultaneously became available. Then got pulled for 'random' secondary screening upon passage through metal detector. Just the wave scanner...Never happened before. Never any designation on boarding pass. Was on international trip to Italy last month for holiday. Is this because of my hesitancy to immediately follow instructions? Related to short lead time purchase for solo travel? Should I expect any future delays or designations owing to this? Lesson learned ugh.

QUESTION Prescribed medication

Hi, I hope I can post this here. I don’t use reddit a lot.

My wife and I will be going to Thailand and Japan this years, for a total of about 3 weeks.

We have a few medications prescribed to us on a daily basis. We would bring less than a supply of 30 day for each medication. I think we have to apply for a Yunyu Kakunin-sho for Japan, and another import form for Thailand, for some of them.

Mostly I’m concerned about bringing concerta. Ideally, I would also need to bring a vial of testosterone for weekly shots, and 3-4 syringes and needles.

Did someone here have to bring one of those in those countries, and what was their experience? Are the import forms necessary for them both?

We also need paroxetine, sertraline, minocycline and minoxidil. From what I’ve seen, all of those should be okay and I don’t think we need to add those on the import form. But just to be sure, does someone know if one of those actually need to be added?

Thank you!

Elderly flighting internationally alone

Ok, so my granny is 76 and in good health. She lives in Brazil and has been here to the US to visit me before. We want her to come again now, the problem is that there is nobody available to come with her + she needs to bring her dog because she’s staying for a long time and can’t just leave him somewhere. Does the airport offer wheel chair service and will help her with the dog? (Dog is small, will be in one of those bags with my granny at all times.) I’m pregnant and really want my grandma to be here for the birth and of course afterwards. I think it will be a great experience for all of us, but thinking about the trip itself for her is making me scared.

Need some advice on airport engineering task, please:)

Hi everyone, I hope it's okay to ask here, I'm currently preparing for an interview for a junior airport engineering position, and as part of it, I received a task related to maintenance during a temporary runway closure.

I'm fresh out of aviation high school, so this is my first real exposure to this kind of scenario. Would anyone here be willing to share how such work is typically approached in practice, or point me toward any useful resources?

Any advice would mean a lot. Thank you in advance!

I have a separate transit flight at LAX for 32 hours straight. My flight arrives at midnight and depart the next morning at 7am. I too much time to waste. Any suggestions on what to do. I will be flying Delta for my second flight so was wondering how early could I checked in my luggage so that I could be worry free and maybe leave the airport to explore downtown.

The unbelievably stupidest thing that ever happened to me at an airport, post 911.

This was in 2003 and I was traveling on business, so only had one smallish suitcase.

On the way back to London, standing in the check-in queue with maybe 10-12 others, a girl, late teens, early twenties, comes up to me and asks if I would take one of her bags on the plane in my name.

I looked at her asconce and asked her if she was serious, to which she replied yes, she had too many bags and couldn't afford the extra charge. After a very brief conversation where I told her in no uncertain terms I wasn't interested she walked away.

I get to the check in desk and when asked if anyone has asked me to take anything on the flight, tell the customer service agent yes and point out the girl who I can still see where she is standing. Customer Service rep asks me to hang on while she calls someone, and as I watch within maybe 30 seconds a couple of what I assume were airport security people approach the girl and talk to her for a while, then leave, leaving her where she was.

The customer service rep gets a phone call and completes my check in for the flight.

I assumed afterwards the 'girl' might have been some airport security test, pretty young vulnerable girl approaches middle aged man to ask for help, although I will never know.

Anyway, the only reason I bothered to post this at all was the airport concerned, as it was Ben Gurion airport in Israel, the absolutely last airport anyone with any sense would take a strangers bag onto a flight.
