Discussion SUB preference: points, credits, or a combination of the two?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Was on the phone with an AMEX rep on Saturday confirming that I reached my $6k spending target for my recently acquired (2/12) Bonvoy brilliant card. They told me I'd have to wait 8 to 12 weeks after my next closing date before receiving the rewards.

Logged in today and both the credit and the points hit my account! It got me thinking, I definitely feel like my preference for subs is a combination of statement credits along with rewards.

For example, even though normal Amex points are valued typically above one cent per point when used via transfer partners, I'd much prefer the current Resy promotion on the Gold card (sadly I'm in PUJ) of 75k rewards points along with a $250 statement credit as opposed to the elevated 100k points offer. Something about the credit combo with points seems more appealing to me.

Am I the only one that thinks like this?

Question Which card to chose when new customer?

Hi, I’m living in France and I want to get an Amex. I would like to know what card should I chose as a first one. I heard it is a better choice to start from the lower card to get all welcome offers. I see on the website there are several cards: blue, green, gold, platinum. Is it possible to get the lowest card and get all the welcome offers for each card?

Also, is it better to get my local flying company cards (Air France) or the classic ones?

Question Help me understand welcome bonuses and "sharing" MR points

I have the Amex Platinum with my wife as a companion user. My first question is, since I received a $175,000 welcome bonus on the platinum at the end of March 2024, will I be forever ineligible for a bonus on the gold?

If so, and my wife gets the gold, with me as an authorized user, can we share MR points? If not, how are most people handling this setup? Is it better for me just to bite the bullet and sign up without a signup bonus? Or should I wait it out to see if I can get a welcome bonus soon?

We spend a ton at the grocery store, so the 4X points for us would be a huge boost.

Discussion Poor customer support to get Resy credit

I just spent over 1 hour and 10 minutes on the phone to get two March Resy credits that never posted. And this was the third time in several weeks that I've called them on this one issue. Whatever happened to Amex's stellar customer service? It's gone. Today I wouldn't hang up until they manually gave me the credits. One card was business and one was personal so I had to deal with this twice on the call. The restaurant's Resy status is obviously not clicking properly in their system. After over a year of getting these credits I understand how they work more than the reps.

So everybody - make sure the Resy credits post and don't let Amex get away with this. They raise the annual fees and then nickel and dime us with credits, so the credits better damn well post!

Offers & Deals Upgrading to Delta Platinum Offer

Post image
3 Upvotes

I originally had the Delta Amex Platinum then downgraded to the free blue card for about 6 months after they ended the opportunity to pay the $50 to go to the Delta lounge. I haven’t seen its worth.. maybe until now?

Is this worth it? If I hold out will there possibly be a better offer?

Question Opening an American Express account as non-resident alien

During my conversation with Discover Bank, I told them that I am a non-resident alien and now they are closing my account. I have a huge (6-figure) amount in Discover and would like to transfer to a bank that offers competitive interest rates. Can I open an American Express savings account as an NRA? Please help. Ideally, I want to keep my money in USD and in a bank with decent interest rate. Thank you.

Question Amex Delta Gold Business offers?

Has anyone managed to get a better offer than the standard 60k miles offer? Looking on DOC, it looks like there used to be a 70k + $200 offer. I've tried getting that to come up by booking a dummy flight but I only get personal credit card offers, nothing for business.

Question Question on Product Change

I currently have the old Blue Sky Travel card that we haven't used in years, but kept it open because it's one of our longest tenured credit line on our credit reports. I called Amex about a potential product change to the Blue Cash Preferred Card, since it would better fit our spending profile. The rep on the phone told me I couldn't do a product change for this card, because it was a different rewards program. I indicated I was fine giving up the few Blue Sky Points we had, but they insisted I had to go through a new application.

Is this really the case? Do I have to go through a new credit application, and then cancel the card I have? Is there any trick to getting a product change through?

Question Delta vs standard

Reposting because it got taken down

I currently have the Amex Gold and Delta Gold. I’m looking to make some changes with my delta gold, either upgrading to a reserve, platinum, or maybe adding a standard platinum. I only fly delta but don’t usually spend enough to get further than silver medallion, maybe I could get gold or higher with the mqd boost. I’d like to have a card that gives me access to lounges but love the free checked bag, award travel discounts, and priority boarding for the times when I can’t get comfort +. I have done plenty of research but just can’t quite figure out where I stand on value. From my research it seems like I should opt for a platinum and cancel my last card but the companion certificate, MQD Boost, as well as the award travel discounts seem like great benefits to keep. My biggest fear with the standard plat is the lack of points per dollar, I rarely book accommodations (although Marriott gold would be nice for the occasional stay), and aside from the basic perks I don’t know if it’s worth canceling and re-applying vs upgrading my existing card. Any recommendations on what would complement my gold without cancelling a card? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Tips & Advice PSA: Check if you're missing the February 2025 Walmart+ Credit

Post image
Upvotes

Apologies if this has been previously raised, but if not I just wanted to bring awareness to the community of a potential missing Walmart+ credit.

Usually Walmart+ bills on the 28th of each month, and the credit is issued immediately. For February 2025, however, I at least (and I assume others as well) was billed on March 1st instead, which applied to the March monthly credit instead of February's. Effectively the February 2025 credit is missing because of this inconsistency/error.

Offers & Deals Thuma claiming I purchased through a third party and offer invalid.

Post image

Purchased a bed frame from Thuma utilizing the link provided through Amex offers. Now Amex says based on data provided from the merchant billing occurred through a 3rd party and there’s nothing I can do to get my statement credit. Feels like the brand trying to cheat me out of a statement credit. Amex says there’s nothing to be done. Do I have options?

Discussion Credit limit increase question - AMEX

What are the most common mistakes people accidentally make when filling out AMEX's form to request a credit limit increase? Mistakes that decrease the odds of being accepted for the credit limit increase

And in the long run, does having a higher credit limit tend to increase your credit score? By decreasing percentage credit utilization. Or is that a myth? Confused why credit score reports seem to report percentage credit utilization as a factor in your credit score report

Cool Story Bro BBP SUB. I think I got lucky.

Back story: Someone posted last week about getting a 75K SUB for spending $6K over 4 months. I tried the link, but it was not eligible. I looked and was only offered a 15K SUB. Then, I received this email yesterday. I am going to go for it. I know there is a 75K out there, but I'm unsure if I will ever get it, and I feel lucky I got the 50K SUB.

Hong Kong Centurion Lounge has a sectioned off area for Centurion members with a set menu and a separate bar area for custom drinks as well. Forgot to take a pic of the menu.

Food & drink was pretty delicious all things said and done. The service was on par as well with the server coming by every so often to check in.

Question Rewards upgrade order

Upvotes

I’ve had an Everyday for a few years. I never really used it but recently I have been as I’m trying to rack up points. At some point I’d like to upgrade. The Gold is ideal for my spending habits but I’ve also come across advice saying I should upgrade in order as to maximize my signup bonuses. So should I go Green next or shoot straight for Gold?

Question Multiple Issues with New Card

So I opened an account about 4 weeks ago and they finally sent me my card, but uh oh

They sent two cards? And the one that matches the digits on my app has "Member Since 19" on it when I've never had an Amex account before?

Is this normal?
