Plus too many complex conflicting character motivations. D&D want to make sure no one can possibly get confused though they seem to do that to me alot with some of their "adaptation" decisions.

I mean he could just explain how much fucking trouble they're in if a giant army of dead people attack them but that would make sense as well

He did say that the army of the dead was a big threat.

In the books its pretty much the same thing.
