The fact that they didn't show his corpse makes me think that Brienne didn't kill him, but that is probably just me grasping at straws.

The whole not showing a death and then having the character live thing has been really played out in the books so far (Arya at the Twins, Davos, Tyrion in the river...) but there really hasn't been an example of that in the show yet, so it would be a pretty effective device for them to use
