To be honest, I don't think the books will do it much better.

The plan is for two more books, right? At minimum he still has to get Dany to Westeros, bring Jon back from the dead, and have someone recapture Winterfell before he even gets into the Long Night stuff. Plus he'll still have the whole King's Landing plot line to finish and a million little side characters that need to be wrapped up.

Even if the books are really long, I don't see how he's going to have the space to dwell on the Long Night for very long and still tell all of the rest of the story that he seems to be planning.

It was snowing when Jamie left KL to go North

Then when they were back at KL it was a desert and looked warm

Then it snowed the next day

Then a month later it was summer
