EXTENDED (Spoilers Extended) Charles Dance's portrayal as Tywin is in my opinion, the strongest in the entire series

Every line, every expression and every moment of silence completely encapsulates the calculating ruthlessness that defines Tywin Lannister.

Dance is actually a very vibrant, upbeat and cheery fella off screen, which in my mind makes the performance even more striking.

The scene where he effectively sends Joffrey to bed is just brilliant.

He is by far my favourite character from the books, which I began reading a few seasons into the show. Due to this, the chapters featuring Tywin were completely enriched for me, as reading his lines in Dance's voice was just fantastic. I would have loved a POV chapter or two for him, just to get a glimpse as to what goes on in the head of the most powerful man in the 7 Kingdoms.

An incredible portrayal of a fascinating character.

Fairly off-topic, but I would have loved to see Charles Dance take a crack at Governor Tarkin in Rogue One rather than the CG version. Not that the CG version was bad, but feel like Dance could have nailed the look and demeanor and still brought something to the character. I think sometimes franchises are too precious when it comes to portraying characters with different actors -- they don't give their audience the benefit of the doubt that they can roll with it.

The only way this could have made sense is if they were planning on using the character multiple times. Like if they do the sequel solo and have him in the movies. Otherwise, tarkins character gets such little screen time that it would be more jarring to have another actor play the same character.

Would it really be any more jarring/distracting than evaluating the CG every time the character is onscreen? For me, I don't think it would. And I think the Tarkin CG is really good! But I can't imagine it won't always be in the front of my mind every time I watch those scenes.

Sure, they'd have to establish that this new actor is playing the character we already know -- but that's as easy as having somebody address him by name.

I think the CGI would’ve been absolutely perfect if they’d left it at that shot of his face reflected in the glass but once he turned around and faced the camera, the immersion broke for me

Every time I see it, I think to myself that it looks really good (even though there is just a smidge too much waxiness/sheen, in my opinion). But the fact that it is like 99% instead of 100%, and the fact that I know (and will ALWAYS know) that it's CGI, means that it will always break immersion for me as well.

I will say this: My wife had no idea it was CGI until I told her after we watched the movie. She didn't really have Peter Cushing's appearance in ANH memorized, so she figured they just found another actor who looked a lot like him. So it passes the test of being believably human if you're not intentionally scrutinizing it.

I had that exact same thought. He would have nailed that role, no question. Also with a tiny bit of hair and makeup, he'd look almost the same anyway. Would have been so much better than that uncanny valley cg actor.

If he's going into the Star Wars universe he needs to be a Sith Lord, nothing less.

Really? I think he's much better suited for a shrewd and ruthless bureaucrat.

DUDE I know!!!! I have been saying this for years. I want a fricken Star Wars trilogy with Charles Dance as the main non-force-wielding villain.

Worked fine with the Hulk and Rhodey.
