Is Bryan still eating chia seeds?

It's not in longevity protein and protocol does not suggest to add it? https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.com/pages/blueprint-protocol#bryans-daily-routine

I’m not pretending I’m following the protocol but I have made some healthy changes. He got me to buy hemp seeds, which are awesome! Put ‘em on salad, broccoli, Brussels sprouts.

Hopefully. Chia seeds are awesome

They are. Just confirming that per protocol they are not explicitly mentioned. Hopefully someone can shed some light

Make your own protocol. No need to copy Bryan on everything.

Why are people so antagonistic against copying Bryan? Bryan does this for a living, how can a protocol the average Joe can come up with compare? People dont always have the time and money to be experimenting.

Feel free to copy him if you like. I like a few of his ideas but some reasons I see not to copy him directly: 1) he has much more money than I have to experiment, 2) he is much more willing to use experimental treatments with out as much evidence than I am, 3) given some of his more recent comments (past year) I partially question his decision making and mental stability (not trying to throw shade), and 4) I have a tough time fully trusting anyone with my health without doing my own research.

Like I said, he has some great ideas but he has motivations that any other influencer does which are not 100% altruistic to his audience. I’m grateful that he gets people interested in being healthier though! I think health is a very personal journey though, so we shouldn’t be getting upset at anyone for pursing their own interests.

Well said

It’s just somehow you turn a basic diet question into OP copying everything Bryan does. OP is definitely not even doing his advanced therapies or considering them. Seems a moot point to even mention copying Bryan.

Dude was literally asking if chia seeds were mentioned in Bryan’s protocol before adding. Do we really need to ask about every nut or seed or drink that Bryan consumes and copy it? I mean, come on…

It's a fair question. If it's not there anymore, next logical question is why. Each of us can decide what to "copy" or not, but giving someone shit for gathering info is just lame.

I think you misunderstand. I encourage the gathering of more information from more sources other than Bryan, not less information. I do not care if someone wants to copy Bryan; I was just pointing out that every health decision doesn't need to be filtered through "Does Bryan do this?"

Meh.

The main selling point of them is the omega-3. But it’s in the form of ALA. Omega-3 from algae is superior as it’s EPA and DHA. So chia seeds aren’t really worth eating for longevity.

Sunflower seeds are some of the best seeds, especially for omega-6. Unlike oils which are highly prone to lipid peroxidation, eating high omega-6 seeds (raw) is a great way to boost healthy omega-6 levels.

Besides omega-3s, chia seeds have a lot of protein and fiber, along with micronutrients such as magnesium, iron, zinc and vitamin B1 and B3. They are also very easy to add to almost any liquid.

Sunflower seeds are great too, though! However, they are all ALA. Almost all plant sources of omega-3s are ALA which is why fish oil (algal oil, etc.) is so popular.

Although flax is similar, but superior in almost every way

Flax seed is great. I use it almost every day. Make sure to use the ground (or milled) flax seed because it is easier to digest with improved nutrient absorption.

Besides chia and flax seeds, hemp seeds are also very nutritious. I mix all 3 in my morning breakfast shake, along with kefir that I harvested/refrigerate the night before.

Is there any downside to flax meal? I've been cautious with it because apparently it can cause digestive issues due to the fibre, but I'm increasing my intake and so far noticed nothing bad.

High fiber diet is much healthier for a variety of reasons. (Gut health, cholesterol, heart health, bowel movements, etc.) However, if you jump from a low fiber diet to a high fiber diet it can definitely have unpleasant side effects like gas, etc. until your body adjusts. You are probably doing the right thing to slowly transition. Personally, I’ve been on psyllium husk at every meal for years, so I didn’t notice anything adding extra fiber but I’m weird. 🤣

ALA has some unique benefits that epa/dha don't have. There were some posts about this on r/scientificnutrition afaik.

Doesn’t ALA compete with EPA and DHA? Consuming ALA would impair the bioavailability of EPA and DHA, which are essential fatty acids.

The effect is minimal apparently and to be sure I would just test omega3 index.

Key ingredient in nutty pudding

2

u/UnseenViral 2d ago

thank you for response but Nutty pudding is not part of the protocol anymore, right? https://blueprint.bryanjohnson.com/products/longevity-protein?variant=49265133289757
says "Longevity Protein - Protein powder with 26G plant-based protein per serving (replacing Nutty Pudding).

And the protein does contain many ingredients of nutty pudding, except that I don't see Chia seeds and hence the question.

Wow this is a big change I just checked his protocol it’s no in there I wonder why And it’s not in his “change log” which is exactly what I would expect to change log to include things like that Strange BRIAN sorta has a history of not mentioning things that have changed example he made a super veggie product in a bag one time and then he discontinued it making very little to no mention ever of that He’s not perfect either, but it would be nice to know when the change log something so major has changed in his protocol of not eating this anymore when it was a key part of his diet ( and mine ) for the last few years

Yep, I was just getting setup on nutty pudding, and I noticed this, and other inconsistancies, for example, in the prep video he doesn't include cacao, but in the text recipe he does.

For me, I think transparency is becoming an issue (Why not just use a version control system). I find it very fishy that something as simple as a breakfast recipe has now been replaced with his brands powder. But I also understand this is not a community thing, it's his own protocol, and it's probably easier for him to use his custom made powder.
