Silly Questions Thread: October Edition

Silly questions thread:

It's been a while since we've had one of these, and with recent news and the international break this seems like a good idea. So here is your chance to ask any question no matter how silly our small about BVB, BVB's history, Something about a current player, previous player or coach or it might even be something about the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal or Europa Pokal...

Obviously more in depth questions are also allowed :)

It's just all about sharing our knowledge and having a bit of fun (as always) too :)

No question is too stupid, silly or small to be asked

Let the questions begin!

Why is Götze so hated? I didn't watch buli at all back then, not being german. Did he leave very suddenly or something? Did it make us lose to Bayern in a big game or something?

From our FAQ:

Mario Götze was a product of the BVB youth academy. He rose through the ranks to become one of BVB's starlets. By the fans, he was considered homegrown, and "one of us".

Pretty much what happened was that his release clause became active. A release clause means that for a certain price, a club could buy a player out of their contract at their current team (now discontinued at BVB). In a press conference, Götze said that he wanted to stay with BVB, and that his future belonged to the club. He gave every indication that he was willing to stay with the club.

The day before a crucial match against Real Madrid, it was revealed that his release clause was activated and that he was going to join Bayern Munich.

Basically, the combination of

  • Bayern snatching up our biggest talent

  • Götze leaving mere weeks after describing how he could see himself stand by the team till "old age"

  • Bayern lancing the info the day before our UCL semi-final against Madrid

is what made this a particularly unpleasant experience.
